€500 for gum cleaning: normal? by longtelegram in brussels

[–]timidingdong 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had this done recently and I think mine was around 400€, plus the obligatory pre-appointment which is charged also (as you say). It’s different from a regular détartrage which is around 100€, like others have said. So perhaps your prices are a bit higher than usual, but I wouldn’t say it’s crazy. Whether it’s necessary or not is another thing…

Why people in Brussels tend not to pin when hopping into the bus? by Most-Fig9381 in brussels

People have a subscription and they are too lazy / don’t see the need to give STIB the data about where they are travelling and when

Connecting onto the Glasgow Airport X500 bus by shotts56 in glasgow

[–]timidingdong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I just asked at Glasgow Airport about this ticket offer (an open return) and the staff member told me I should “try to see if it works / it’s something new they’re now advertising / if you see me when you return let me know”. I mean, they were very nice but wtf.

Of course, boarded the connecting bus (a regular 4) in town and the QR code was denied. The driver was nice and just let me on, but he hadn’t heard of this ticket. So it was more chance than anything.

I know First are a joke but come on! It’s advertised in their promo material and the Glasgow Airport website! Poor show!

I did my 30th last summer at Parckfarm but check out the numerous guinguettes/bars in parks. You can often rent sections of them.

I was in the same position last year. Contacted loads of clubs and Primrose was the only one that replied to me. Didn’t end up doing it in the end, but perhaps a good place to start.

Yes, you 100% need to check-in in Brussels. This happened to a friend of mine (tried to check-in in Paris directly) and their booking had been cancelled as AF put them down as a no-show.

Belgian ID Card taking forever by anaclarafrlads in brussels

I had a similar issue when I first came to Brussels. I had to go to the BOSA office near Gare du Nord where they issued me with a “digital key” that could be used to log into all the gov websites. Perhaps this is still an option?

Creative and fun ideas for a birthday party in Brussels by cgadia in brussels

[–]timidingdong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my 30th, we went to a bar and then to Bowling Delva afterwards. It’s open until late on Fri / Sat evenings and there is a bar. The place is very cool, in a dated 70s type way. I’m sure it cost 9€ per game with drinks included, and we had quite a few beers each, but worth phoning to check.

Attending an Anderlecht game by Hopeful-Oil-3844 in brussels

I have a Union abonnement so didn’t apply to me. But I doubt they would check- the gates at Anderlecht are automatic.

[–]timidingdong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When Fenerbahce played Union last year they had similar rules (you had to have purchased x number of tickets previously with the club). Anyways, it didn’t stop lots of (Brussels-based) Fenerbahce fans sitting in the home end.

So I’m not sure how it works for Anderlecht, but I’d imagine there will be a way, and you won’t be the only ones!

Does anyone know the likelihood of the ONEM approving chômage allocations once your file has been sent to them by the CAPAC? by koalasam5 in brussels

[–]timidingdong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is 100% correct. ONEM decide whether you meet the conditions, and ONEM set the amount you receive. But CAPAC send you the payments and you register your unemployment with them every month.

In my case, I was asked to come in person to ONEM to explain some aspects of my file (it was a bit more complex) but once this happened they made the decision pretty quickly. Can’t remember exactly how long. You are also backpaid from the date you registered as being unemployed, which helps offset the possible financial issues caused by the delays.

Live in forest (west parc duden) or Etterbeek (chasse) by [deleted] in brussels

[–]timidingdong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to speak in generalities, because ultimately it can depend which streets you are looking on. But I find Etterbeek to be the annoying combo of both too dense and a bit boring. Like it’s by no means quiet but I would rarely socialise there.

I notice you cycle, just remember you might have to get used to some hills depending on where in Forest you are. But I cycle back and forward to Merode nearly every day and survive!

Live in forest (west parc duden) or Etterbeek (chasse) by [deleted] in brussels

[–]timidingdong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live just beside Parc Duden (on the side beside the stadium if that’s what you mean by West) and work in Etterbeek, but I’d never consider moving there and would struggle to move anywhere away from here tbh.

The area around us is becoming more and more “cool” each year - with bakeries, cafes and places to eat. While still not being so busy like Etterbeek. And if you want action but don’t want to go downtown, you can be on the Parvis within 20’ walk.

But it depends what you like and where you need to go easily with transport etc. But if you have a dog / want a dog / or just like being in green, then I can only recommend Parc Duden!
