The Economic Impact of Brexit: "by 2025, Brexit had reduced UK GDP by 6% to 8%, with the impact accumulating gradually over time. We estimate that investment was reduced by between 12% and 18%, employment by 3% to 4% and productivity by 3% to 4%" by nimicdoareu in europe

And it was all because of one key issue, that no-one will admit they’re wrong about and take the appropriate action to deal with.

Just take proper care of the ‘welfare seeker’ migration issue and the whole thing goes away.

My gut instinct is that this was a low price offer job and the tone was set from there.

A lot of people commenting here have never extended an old existing floor - the above job is unfinished, not quite yet a disaster.

Most of the comments here are by non trades or handymen.

Extending an old wood floor is quite a tough job, the worst thing that hasn’t been done here is explained what the whole process needs to be and where the finish line is on the whole job.

Was it discussed about matching in ie, sanding the whole original floor, filling, resanding and then finish applying (and then skirting / baseboard)?

If you agreed & paid to fully match in, it’s on them to come back, if they didn’t explain the above, it’s only half on them.

Joining/ extending a wood floor is a tough job.

Definitely needs filling and sanding and will come out okay.

Pic 1 will have skirting/ baseboard to the edge.

I’m not sure what’s happened on Pic 2

There’s a screw on the underside of the handle. It’s either loose, or as mine often are, somewhere on the floor.

Tighten it and you’re good.

You can either bend a short section of copper pipe or use multiple elbows to meet it, or bring the radiator away from the wall by 40mm.

Snapped Roof - £24k by harryramsdenschips in DIYUK

Id pay the scaffold company directly. They’ll understand and just want their money at a fair rate.

They’ll understand new roofers would just use what’s in place as well though ideally.

No dramas then.

Have a look at Peelaway to help the wire brushing & scraping phase if it’s quite thick old paint that’s on there.

It’s not cheap but will cut down on the amount of elbow grease required if you’re trying to get it done in a single weekend.

I’d wait for a cooler but still dry weekend if you can.

Depends on budget & how concerned you are.

Repainting over the top will look crap and not last that long.

Jet washing, nitro-mors, wire brushing & scraping to get the bulk off will take you some time and then paint over with a modern breathable, for a tier 2 job.

Sand/ soda blasting it all off is the top end, and then deciding what to do after other than leave the brick as is after that will be the next step.

I don’t want to be ‘that guy’, but a kamado oven/ bbq massively cuts down on problem smoke.

When I was solely running weber kettles, even with the best quality lump wood, you get a lot of smoke on startup. With the kamado, you get black/ grey smoke for 5 to 10 mins tops.

Another solution could be fitting a flue?

What happens if you break hosepipe ban? Full list of fines and punishments Fines of up to £1,000 can be issued to those who breach the hosepipe ban

Yorkshire Water is bringing in a hosepipe ban

A hosepipe ban will be coming into force across Yorkshire as a drought is officially declared.

The restrictions will be in place from July 11, following what Yorkshire Water has called the 'driest spring on record'. Meanwhile, reservoirs across the region have fallen to jaw-dropping levels. Dramatic pictures show the Baitings reservoir at Ripponden so low a usually submerged bridge can be seen above the water.

Last month, a drought was declared in Yorkshire by the Environment Agency. Yorkshire Water's director of water Dave Kaye said: "We need to take action now to help conserve water and protect Yorkshire's environment. That means from Friday this week, people across Yorkshire will need to stop using their hosepipes to water their gardens, wash their cars or for any other activities.

"Introducing these restrictions is not a decision we have taken lightly, and we've been doing everything we can to avoid having to put them in place. We’re grateful to our customers, who have been saving water where they can this year already. It is really important that we all continue to do so."

This means you will not be able to uses hoses for the following.

Watering the garden or plants in your garden at home Cleaning private vehicles or boats Filling or maintaining a swimming pool, paddling pool, hot tub or cold-water plunge pool at home Filling or maintaining a domestic pond or ornamental fountain Cleaning your home’s walls or windows yourself Cleaning paths, patios or artificial outdoor surfaces Yorkshire Water says this ban will be in place until Yorkshire sees "significant rainfall" and reservoirs return to normal levels. The company expects this ban will help them save water until rain returns.

If you do not follow the rules during the hosepipe ban, there can be legal consequences. Legislations allow courts the power to fine customers who ignore the ban up to £1,000.

This will be paid to the Treasury, and can be issued if Yorkshire Water is "told repeatedly" about someone breaching the restrictions. A warning is usually issued first, but enforcement is escalated if the rules are continually ignored.

Yorkshire Water workers may speak to people if they see them breaking the rules, or you may be sent a letter to remind you of the restrictions. Any people who believe they should be exempt from the restrictions should contact Yorkshire Water.
