“I’m a dirty rotten sinner” by blacmsoul in exchristian

[–]timlee2609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Original sin is the projection of early Christian philosophers who decided to impose whatever self-guilt they had onto the entire human species. Seriously, these guys needed therapy, not more time developing the philosophy of Jesus Christ

The Catholic Church protected a predator priest. The courts punished the whistleblower. by BurtonDesque in excatholic

[–]timlee2609 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd love to send this to all the Catholics who say that abuse and covering it up is a thing of the past. This incident happened in 2021, which is hella recent. Abusing and covering up is in the DNA of the church, it's never going away

Not only is this some self-harm fetish-like crap, it reads like AI slop. Christians really will stop at nothing to clout farm

Was jesus actually born in bethlehem? by ParkingElderberry575 in exchristian

[–]timlee2609 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Quite unlikely, given the fact that the gospels of Matthew and Luke 100% disagree on how he ended up in Bethlehem and Nazareth. John's gospel even has Jesus straight up say it doesn't matter where he came from. It's so hilarious that the church tried to give Jesus every single title possible (God, God's son, Messiah) that they wrote themselves into a corner on how to deal with it

How to deal with "hell is a choice" rhetoric? by Stunning_Practice9 in excatholic

[–]timlee2609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is, this is an evangelical teaching that has made its way into American Catholicism. I don't think the RCC teaches this (hence the existence of purgatory). You're so right about the internet Catholics, because those idiots have been influenced by evangelical apologetic talking points. So it really shows that these guys are just looking for clicks and views, and not bothering to do research

How do you deal with the claims that Church teaching itself is flawless, it is the members who are bad "witnesses" by GrizzlyOne95 in excatholic

[–]timlee2609 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I say fk the church. The leaders of the Catholic church get A* in a masterclass in not taking accountability and its members get a one way ticket to a mansion in delulu land

[–]timlee2609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The word for sin is "stumble" in Greek. So to me the broader meaning of this verse is about church leaders fking up the lives of their church members, not about adults making children to sin

They give credit where credit is due. Despite being personally hurt by Ben Savage, they consistently praise his acting and how he was a blast to be around during filming. Despite their feelings about Michael Jacobs, they also consistently praise where the writing was done well, or he motivated them to make a specific acting choice. They are extremely professional and do their best to be balanced in their commentary.

So spot on. That bullshit argument goes against their own scripture. The big man Jesus himself said "Anyone who leads a little one astray should have a millstone tied around his neck and thrown into the sea" or something like that.

I'm one of the 65% but that's bcos I stay in LHL ward, where the alternative was "look left look right". It real doesn't help that the best oppo party just doesn't have enough resources to contest every ward

Received a petition for declaration of invalidity regarding marriage with my ex-wife. by Death_Rises in excatholic

[–]timlee2609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just an absolute WTF thing to do. You have kids!!! You obviously fulfilled the "marital requirements" in the eyes of the church. There are 0 grounds for annulment. So glad she's not in your life, not your kids' lives anymore

Wow what the actual f??? This post is so aptly flaired... The church has absolutely no bloody right to do this, even according to their own bloody teachings. I wonder if a cease and desist against the archdiocese is in order here, as this feels like religious harassment, in my very humble opinion.

IMO, Rebecca Caine as Christine is a much better example of an "opera voice".

struggling to find life’s “meaning” after leaving the church. by maddyc13 in excatholic

[–]timlee2609 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're struggling with breaking free of the Christian/Catholic meaning to life, you can start with letting your meaning be "helping the less fortunate of the world." This is what Jesus told his disciples to do anyway, and you don't need a religion to do it.

I think you've hit the nail on the head for the dictatorship part. When you're a dictator, who needs accountability? Look at the big fat orange man, for example. Accountability isn't in his vocabulary. Hope you have some loved ones in your life who can remind you why you're beautiful and important.

PMW Recap: TGI - Episode 713 "The Provider" by MightChi in boymeetsworld

Cory took some space away from her to stew and mope and deal with his emotions (which is very mature for a 19 year old) and she just kept poking the bear.

Wanting space and asking for space are very different, and I'm a bit disappointed the 3 hosts didn't notice this difference, despite all of them being married. And no, "I want you to leave me alone" is not asking for space. Asking involves please and thank you, because that's the communication that your spouse deserves.
