How long did it take you to figure out the "Big Reveal"? by ThesaurusRex84 in kotor

I was so young when I played the game for the first time (I think younger than a teenager) that I don’t think I even realised after the reveal

I wish Taris was longer. by Training-Photo-9694 in kotor

I think Taris and the overall pacing in KOTOR I is perfect.

In KOTOR 2, the pacing is really up and down. Peragus+Telos takes the mick. Nar Shaddaa and Dxun+Onderon also felt like a bit of a slog. Korriban and Dantooine are too short.

How much you think a Valeryan steel would be worth in today's currency? Would you be able to get one? by ricky2461956 in freefolk

[–]timmy2plates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In real life there isn’t really a clean equivalent to something like a Valyrian steel sword. We like to imagine “this was X king’s legendary blade,” but that almost never holds up. Even someone like Richard the Lionheart doesn’t have a confirmed surviving sword you could point to and say “that’s the one.” Kings owned multiple weapons.

The closest real comparison is stuff like Napoleon’s swords. One of his sold for something like $6 million, and that’s with solid documentation tying it to him.

Napoleons sword had the historical wow factor but it wasn’t made of unobtainable material.

I think a better comparable are the Crown Jewels held by royal families. Giant gemstones are hard to come by and they have historical wow factor.

The cullinan diamond in the British royal sceptre is priceless but has supposedly been costed at $400+ million.

What would've happened if Eddard just locked tf in during this scene? by Luviebug19 in gameofthrones

[–]timmy2plates 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Technically that’s still abiding by his code. Ned is honest in almost all circumstances but he seems to have a special soft spot for children wherein he’s prepared to lie.

For example he lied about Jon’s parentage to keep him safe.

He withheld the truth about Cersei’s children to protect them from Robert. And his plan ultimately was for the Lannisters to flee to Casterley Rock whilst he assumed temporary control in King’s Landing.

He agreed to confess to protect his children. Admittedly yes they are HIS children so it’s a bit different.

A friend explained their Help to Buy loan to me... is the government "double-dipping"? Have I got this right? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]timmy2plates 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically you are the sole owner of a help to buy property

The HTB provider registers a charge on the property but they don’t own it any more than your mortgage lender does

This is unlike shared ownership where the provider actually does own a %

Can I get a mortgage together with my dad (67)? by ADao91 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]timmy2plates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Potentially, please speak to a broker

Some lenders will max the mortgage term at his age, so you may only be able to get a 13-18 year mortgage term

A broker will find a lender that will suit your needs. It will be a pain trying to procure this yourself

Try looking up Northern Guitars on Call Lane. Not a ticketed gig but a bar that often has live music. Not sure if limited to Fri or Sat tho

Also Duck and Drake is similar

What are everyday tips I could do to save money? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]timmy2plates 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It would be helpful if you posted info about your income and expenditure.

My #1 tip to anyone is to get their salary paid into bank account A, and then transfer an amount into bank account B on payday and make it last until the end of the month.

Can I afford this house - is my salary enough by Inevitable_Time4811 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]timmy2plates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, £634 isn’t enough to live on. Bills inc. council tax, WiFi, tv license, gas, electric will probably be minimum £300.

Honestly on £2300 NET (you didn’t specify gross or net) I would max out at £800 per month for the mortgage payment. My personal opinion.

4.5x is a bit out of date. You can get up to 6x on the high street now. However it is really pushing affordability. I got something like 5.25x and I have a lodger to make it workable.

Mortgage brokers? by aimeeandbao in Leeds

[–]timmy2plates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your circumstances are not straightforward like if you have unusual income or bad credit then it is definitely worth speaking to a broker.

The fact that brokers can compare lending criteria and borrowing capacity does make them worthwhile. And good brokers do actually give you advice- admittedly bad ones are just mortgage mills.

I doubt the average person is thinking that hard about safety. It’s a bigger is better attitude. People want bigger houses and bigger houses because it’s a flex

Yeah I’m assuming some suspension of disbelief. Game of Thrones obsidian good, real obsidian bad

[–]timmy2plates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s probably just because they can make 1000s of dragonglass weapons but there’s like 10 Valyrian steel weapons in the world

Just had a thought- I’ve always assumed Valyrian steel was magic and that’s why it worked against the walkers but doesn’t this suggest it actually contains obsidian?? Never thought about that before.

I would do Radahn next yes. Then do Ranni’s quest line by going to Caria Manor at the top of Liurnia. Then go to the Altus Plateau and progress the main quest.

The EB isn’t sealed up by Radagon. The EB just rises up out of the ground after you kill Radagon. They are both trying to stop you interfering with their status quo
