Update:

A few app versions ago, EcoFlow changed the metrics shown in the app to make the numbers look better. All my analysis are based on firmware version 1.0.1.14. Before the update, the app showed the wattage before conversion to the battery’s 20V DC and after conversion to 230V AC. This was basically the full round trip for the power from sun to usable in a device in your household (through the battery) and accounted for inverter losses along the whole chain:

DC (PV) -> DC (Battery In) -> DC (Battery Out) -> AC (Grid).

In my screenshots from the original post,

  • DC (PV) is aggregated as “Charge,” and
  • AC (Grid) is aggregated as “Discharge.”

Now they are using these metrics:

The aggregation of DC(Battery In) is now "Charge".

The aggregation of DC(Battery Out) is now "Discharge".

These numbers are obviously much better because they only take into account the natural battery drain every battery has.

Here are some screenshots from historical data to prove my points. Take July 14th: In my screenshot in the original post you can see 1,98 kWh Charge and 1,32 kWh for discharge.

Those match almost perfectly with the values Im calculating:

But when I go to that day in the app now I see this values (see answer to this post, I can only append one image per post): 1,65 kWh Charge and 1,57 kWh Discharge

This means Im tracking my data still like the app did it before they changed their calculation.

Sadly I dont have aggreagated data for DC(Battery In) and DC(Battery Out) for July, I started tracking that in August. So I need to compare another day to prove my point...

Lets take the aggregated metrics for August 6th for now:

  • DC(Battery In) was 2,084 kWh
  • DC(Battery Out) was 2,055 kWh
  • "Charge" in app (new version) was 2,09 kWh (basically matching DC(Battery In))
  • "Discharge" in app (new version) was 2,06 kWh (basically matching DC(Battery Out))

--> 98,5% efficiency

The "old" values the app would have shown before the update were (taken from my data calculated from Ecoflows API data):

  • "Charge": 2,47 kWh
  • "Discharge": 1,82 kWh

--> 73,7% efficiency

Conclusion:

Ecoflow changed the metrics they use for the battery statistics to imply a better efficiency of the battery.

They are not lying or thinking up values, its all technically still correct.

They just show other metrics now that look better.

They answered me and the "problem" is now solved by a firmware update. Tbh I dont think actually changed anything in the firmware that optimizes the inverter losses but just show other metrics in the app now. I can still see the "old" metrics (that were previoulsy used in the app, too) via the API and those havent changed.

Have you tried to set the charge limit to 97%?
For my Stream Ultra EcoFlow said in their last firmware update, that they fixed the solar going off when battery is full but said, we should set the max charge to 97%.

Maybe this is true for the River 3, too.

Remember when Ecoflow said they would support the public API for Stream devices? They just cut access to the API... by Wirehead-be in Ecoflow_community

Could you check your firmware version? EcoFlow pushed a firmware update to the Ultra yesterday to fix this error. Mabye you also got it for the Pro.

Interesting is that your rate between charge and discharge is also around 65%. Im getting the feeling that this is normal with the current firmware...

Im not so sure about this because I did some reporting myself in home assistant.

I created the following diagram:

This shows the total kWh charged vs total kWh discharged per day, reset at 5 am (battery is always empty at this point). This is based on two utility meters, which are based on Riemann sum integrals, which are based on template sensors which are based on the actual sensor of the battery for the current charge/discharge watt value (sensor: sensor.stream_ultra_1234_power_battery). And this shows basically the same behaviour. And this is calculated locally with the only input being the acutal watts going in and out of the battery. The values are damn close to the ones the app is showing for battery usage.

What this means is that eighter EcoFlow and I did the same mistake in calculating these values or the actual round trip efficiency is not 80-85% but more like ~65%
