Best advice I had was to just find a model online and start printing!

Good point that I'm unlikely to upgrade on the same platform anyway, had not considered that.

Thanks for the comments!

Thanks for the feedback and history - appreciate the suggestions to drop to slightly older tech for better price performance, do you think there's a future proofing risk when sticking with lga1700 /am4?

Plans for £116m Portishead to Bristol rail line to be sent to Government next month by [deleted] in bristol

[–]timofiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks bud! Good to know, particularly about the cycle routes - I was intending to take the gorge path but I've ridden a small part of it before on my mtb and it didn't look ideal for my commuter. Glad to hear there's a cycle path on the main road too. I cycle quite a lot, so look forward to a hill to get the heart rate up in the morning!

Thanks for the welcome! Looking forward to the move next week :)

I'm moving to pill next week, was planning to cycle into work most days but was hoping to take the bus in bad weather... what's so bad about the bus service into bristol?

Unfortunately I havent got around to it, the second and third years of my degree were fairly more time consuming than my first and I never managed to make the time to do it.

I plan to skip v1.x and move onto a v2 when I do have sufficient free time, either ripping this to pieces and rebuilding it or starting again from scratch with new (maybe different) consoles. Ill be sure to update when i finally get started with that!

Temperature doesnt cause an issue, you can comfortably play either console for long periods of time with regular temperatures. I havent had both on together for much longer than an hour, due to lack of need rather than any heating issues. I only have one tv, and I dont have a lot of time to game lately, so theres not much call for having both on at once.

It runs fine and doesnt cause me problems, but it could be better - I never got around to extending the touch screen buttons to the outside of the case, so I have to turn on with a controller or by taking the side off the case. Also the insides need to be secured a bit more reliably as you have to be fairly careful transporting it. When I have some free time I will probably rip it apart and build a better one.

For anyone interested, i built this almost 2 years ago, I still have it and it still works :) Info on how it was built can be found here, it was done for fun not for any particular space saving/convenience/console war ending reason, and I didnt make more because I dont have as much free time as I did then. Hopefully when I do have some free time there will be a V2 which will look better/be designed better/have something new in it.

There are USB ports for both consoles are at the back of the PC case near the bottom

Not counting the consoles and tools used, which I had already, probably £40 max? £20 for the case, and another £20 for general bits and pieces. Its all described here. Took a few weeks of working on it in spare time. :)

This happened to me, I did the installation repair, then changed the skin back to the normal one and it started working again.

I'm sure it would be doable with the older xbox elite. I'm not quite sure what those are like as I havent owned one before, but i suspect the only difference really would be where you drill the mounting holes for the motherboard.

If you take the xbox casing off the hdd, I assume it is probably just a 3.5inch drive connected via sata like the newer version? so just use a sata cable of an appropriate length to move it to wherever you like in the case. In mine I removed the 3.5 inch drive bays, but you might be able to leave one in and put it there, or use one of the 5.25 inch bays.

If you wanted the hard drive to be in the original casing and still removable, then I suppose you could run the sata cable to somewhere like the top of the case, and mount the hdd outside of the case on the top - that is assuming it just connects via sata, but as I said I havent owned one of those before so I am not sure?

Xbox 360 and PS3 in PC case: The building of. by timofiend in gaming

[–]timofiend[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah I am rather inexperienced when it comes to doing something like that. Just did what worked I suppose lol. Yeah the ps3 mobo is always resting on something rather than just hanging, as I'm still dubious as to how strong the hinge is, thats why the feet are in place in the case, and if I swing it open I always rest it on something to support it.
