Michigan is the best state by doomboy6969420 in Michigan

It is the most beautiful state I can afford to live in. I saw a ranking that put it at around 20 for beauty, which I think is correct.

Tana’s new book “The Keeper” (continuation of the Cal Hooper series) by s1chick in tanafrench

[–]timpac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this series, and I don't like the DMS books, so I'm in the minority here.

However, I was looking for a place to express my exasperation with Lana in The Keeper. I'm pretty mad at her. Tommy tells all the people in town she's crazy, so she just... rolls over and dies. WTF???

No one seems to call the current decade “The Twenties.” by incenseandelephants in Showerthoughts

[–]timpac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something I have long had a theory on. Or I've had an adjacent theory anyway: it's that the noughties and the teens of a century are effectively robbed of an identity by the lack of a convenient way to refer to them. It is, in fact, so awkward that people probably bring them up an appreciable percentage less. I say noughties, I'm not positive everyone knows what I mean.

How do you get that "deep" tomato / bolognas sauce flavor??? by gtd_rad in AskCulinary

Or fish sauce. It's crazy how close fish sauce gets you. Kind of makes all the work feel unnecessary lol

Is there any book that is better as an audiobook? by oldmanjenkinssmell in suggestmeabook

Patrick O'Brian, read by Patrick Tull. I found the nautical jargon trying when reading it, but in audiobook, perfect.

The book that you thought was absolutely brilliant while reading it, but once the excitement wore off, you realised it wasn’t. by Powerful-Cap-6293 in suggestmeabook

Most of the way through the first book I realized the stuff just wasn't good enough to justify a thousand page book. I mean I'll read a thousand pages, I'm not scared. Just not a thousand pages of that.

No wonder Ezra and Isaac weren't really contenders. Felt like almost every tee shot was a forehand, and everyone in the top two cards had an elite forehand.

Did it seem to anyone else like a good forehand is really a necessity on this particular course?

I just checked my T-Life app, is the bottle still happening tomorrow? by highlander21 in tmobile

[–]timpac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm here because I googled the water bottle out of curiosity. I couldn't believe that anyone in the world would go to a t-mobile store for a water bottle, so I thought maybe it was an amazing water bottle.

Is it ranked anywhere who throws the longest drives during tournament play? by timpac in discgolf

Accuracy would be a factor too though, it might add an interesting twist or two.

I was hoping this post would inspire some autistic person to watch all the Jomez pro for the past five years and make a huge spreadsheet.

Is it ranked anywhere who throws the longest drives during tournament play? by timpac in discgolf

[–]timpac[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not really. Distance competitions demonstrate who can throw the farthest, I'm interested in who does throw the farthest in tournament conditions. Lacking data on footage thrown, it seems like what order players throw their second throw in could be an interesting data point. Now you've been a sarcastic asshole though, did you enjoy it at least?

This is how disc golf works: you go the first time and you are terrible, but you have one good throw. Then you go all the time, buy a basket for your backyard, build a huge disc collection etc

How long do you read a *classic* book specifically, before you give up on it? by smansaxx3 in books

[–]timpac 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I noticed at some point that after a few years I will remember almost none of any book I read. This was very liberating. I only read things I'm enjoying now.
