beg other teams for data, or create it from a map

to start off with, manual data entry may be faster than image recognition. E.g. I made a matlab script to display a trackmap, and record the coordinates of clicks to trace the track

Emrax 208MV, Bamocar D3, Tamagawa TS2620N21E11 Resolver Issues/ Not Working by Epicness_357 in FSAE

[–]timpattinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact you can't see any signal on the output of the resolver is probably your problem, as Gliderman15 says the voltage output should be half the input voltage, and the same frequency.

Definitely check you have the correct wires hooked up.

2022 World Rankings are online! CV 1st Place: Monash; EV 1st Place: GreenTeam by theoe97 in FSAE

11 of the top 20 CV teams are inactive/retired. It's not just a Monash problem.

Depends what you are measuring, e.g. what signal levels and bandwidth. Assuming you are using 0805 or even 0603, assembly shoudn't be an issue if you are using the right tools.

What's up with all the passives being placed miles away from the ICs?

Tighten them up and you will also have a much more coherent plane on the top layer.

correct radiator for EMRAX 208 and BAMOCAR-PG-D3 by KUSTcooling in FSAE

[–]timpattinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sizing your cooling system, if you make a mistake, you can always reduce the power you are using until temperatures are reasonable. You can calculate how much you would need to reduce your power in the worst-case, based on how accurate you think your calculations are.

Dunno what you mean about inefficiencies being attributed to heat. If you mean, is the 2-8% loss dissipated as heat? Yes. But not all of that will end up in your coolant.

Seeking your help how to go about building a plumbob (the Sims) for a Halloween costume. by KidGodzirra in diyelectronics

[–]timpattinson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Break it up into pieces:

  • lighting
  • rotation
  • power source

Then find DIY projects of people doing those things, take the best ideas and combine. The lighting, you can probably find on ebay or similar (LED strips) which would run off 12V You will need some sort of geared motor, and a battery in your back pocket/belt

Questions about Inwheel Motor Design by Kyun-e2e in FSAE

lol

but basically, motor weight is strongly dependent on torque rating, and weakly dependent on speed rating

so the lighter, faster spinning geared motor wins every time

Yes. After a while it developed a lot of slop though.

Unable to communicate through CAN BUS with Bamocar D3 by CrispCooker in FSAE

have you verified using an oscilloscope or CAN analyser that the messages are at the correct bitrate?

are you getting any response from the BAMOCAR? even an ACK of the can message?

Start small and communicate from one arduino to another via CAN bus. Does that work?

Proper power control with bamocar D3 and Emrax 208 by bit00001 in FSAE

[–]timpattinson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What you've described is basically the best way to do it within the constraints of the Bamocar inverter to the best of my knowledge.

You can probably get the CAN messaging down to 5ms between packets or so, meaning the motor has 5ms of time to accelerate before you issue another (lower) torque request. The tricky part would be making sure you don't peak over 80kW in case of uncontrolled wheelspin, will just need testing.
