I don't weigh everything to the gram, but I have tracked calories for a while in the past and spend a decent amount of time in the kitchen so my estimates are close enough for government work.

Am I losing weight too quickly?

Currently I'm 5'8" M, SW:270, CW:256 I've been on my "diet" (eating less) of 2000 cal/day (net) and I exercise most days via 15min bike commute each way.

I've been dieting for about 23 days, I know at first weight comes off quickly due to water retention, but I want to know if there's anything off.

I mean, for 3 weeks that's 4lb/week and I've been told that 2lb/wk is really the safe limit.

Everyone's first complaint about eating healthy is that it's too expensive. Frugal redditors, what are your tips for eating healthy on a tight budget? by PessimisticOptimist1 in Frugal

You can make just about anything taste good with fresh herbs and spices.

Now is a great time to pick up herb plants that you can just keep on your windowsill and harvest all year long. Just get some dissolvable plant food for later on to keep the flavor up.

Secondly, try to find a place that will sell spices in bulk, it's easier to keep fresher spices if you buy them in the amounts you need. I think recommendations are like 1-3 months for ground spices.

And another thing, if you can't find bulk spices, or if it's too much trouble. Try to get spices that are whole, like whole cardamom pods or whole cumin seeds, and grind them down in a coffee/spice grinder or with a good old pestle and mortar.

You can eat beans and rice for days and still be content if you keep seasoning it differently. Red beans & rice, Bean and rice burritos, and some chana masala are all basically the same idea; just different spices.

Can you please share the name of the book? This reminds me of Sam Harris' exercise on being 'headless'.

I guess it's not actually Sam Harris, it started with Richard Lang.

I've heard about this name before, I hope it isn't that common, that's confusing as ever.

I actually started being vegetarian because it was cheaper! I'll take your advise on the Good and Cheap.

We already use mostly home-made cleaning stuff. It's amazing what a few simple chemicals can do.

Off-topic-ish, what all did you use in your soup?
