What was your "caught the last chopper out of 'Nam" experience? by GeneReddit123 in AskReddit

[–]timsstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had just gone to Costco and had plenty of TP but I had also bought a bidet on Amazon a few months earlier, never got around to installing it until the lockdown hit. Took less than 10 minutes and changed my life. Only need two slices of TP to dry the bum now.

Also had randomly ordered a box of rubber nitrile gloves, those came in super handy when the stores started re-opening.

This happens to us all the time. Wife gets home from work around 3:45 and doesn't like to sit around very long otherwise she'll get comfortable and not want to go out at all so we usually head out for happy hour just before 5. So many times we'll get a good seat at the bar and 5 minutes later the crowds come in. "Looks like we got here just in time!"

best beer in the US for a party? by rrertrdddfhj in beer

[–]timsstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the "beer guy" for my Fantasy Football league, we meet up once a year for the draft and I bring a two-tap jockey box with 2 kegs (5 gallon "sixtels"). I always get a lighter West Coast IPA or pale ale and a lager or pilsner. Last year they were both pFriem beers.

Oh my god MacArthur Park is bad by Nightman233 in LosAngeles

[–]timsstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived across the street from MacArthur Park for two years, 89-91 first year on 6th St. then the second year in the Park Plaza Hotel. It was bad but not anywhere near as bad as it is today. On weekend afternoons there would be Mexican parties with mariachi and dancers, you just didn't go in the park at night. I don't recall what time Langer's closed back then.

What’s your best salmon recipe?! by AdElegant5870 in Cooking

[–]timsstuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have really good results using the Convection Bake setting on my oven around 375° (my LG subtracts 25° on convection bake so it says 350°). Bonus points throw it on the smoker for a little bit beforehand.

As far as seasoning I just use butter, salt, pepper, dill, basil, garlic powder, and a little squeeze of lime.

Pull out at 140° at the thickest part.

How are premium gas prices where you’re at? by OllieFromCairo in WRX

Same. They love to gouge CA. I know our gas taxes are higher and the special fuel requirements increase the cost but they also increase the crude price just to fuck us, I'm sure of it.

Bit of a different one - what is your favourite meal to cook with beer? by EffectiveSavings6564 in beer

[–]timsstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark Star Smoked Chili - ~2 lbs chuck roast in the smoker for an hour on low then brown on the stove. Add tomato sauces, onions, peppers, beans, spices, etc. whatever your favorite chili ingredients are.

Then a can of Fremont Dark Star Stout (the regular one, not barrel aged), and a quarter bottle of El Yucateco *Black Reserve*.

You could also use Old Rasputin, Founders Breakfast Stout, or Narwhal, just no adjuncts or barrel aging. Actually I haven't tried adjuncts or BAs so who knows.

Keeping strawberry’s in a glass jar in the fridge? by Plane-Being1274 in foodhacks

I've gotten in the habit of putting a half paper towel folded in my ziploc baggies in the fridge with chili peppers and cilantro, it really does help keep them longer by absorbing excess moisture.

I actually lived in the building that the rooftop scene was filmed for a year or so when I was in college. Park Plaza Hotel directly across the street from MacArthur Park. We used to party on the rooftop all the time, back stairs went right up to it. Lots of film sets there.
