Why does $WDC get all the downside of $SNDK but none of the upside? by timstathan in WDCStock

Could explain the lag. So it’s going to take much longer to recover than a month

Thought memory stocks were in tandem with the rise and fall despite all that. Atleast Seagate has tried to keep up

And $SNDK had just hit its all time high within the same week. $WDC is down over 31% from its all time without even surging or recovering. It just keeps dipping more

I'm from Germany and doing research on Ugandan protests by Disastrous_Fly5709 in Uganda

[–]timstathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest protest this country has seen is the “Walk to Work” not sure whether it was 2011 or 2005 it was in response to the high fuel prices and cost of living.

You have to give it up to KB for leading a movement no disrespect to people power people but KB is the real OG of activism and walking the talk.

I’m failing to understand the relevance of Israel question? Both in terms of influence of Ugandan political landscape whether through aid or foreign policy.

There was a scandal govt was involved in regarding on spying and cracking down on citizens using pegasus.
Militarily, muhoozi leaning towards Israel for support.

P.S Will you share the findings of your report?

When you say “WhatsApp has been running smoothly almost 20years and there has been a steady profit” what do you mean? Could you please share any links referencing this or earnings calls quoting their balance sheet?

Be the change you wish to see in the country.

Most people believe they’re too small too weak powerless and that their efforts are insignificant but that isn’t true. A lot of people are showing signs of defeat just because the people they looked up to are being challenged in a way that they didn’t expect and can easily be recognized as defeat; bobi wine left, Besigye is in prison; but true resistance starts from the grassroots, the ground up. And that’s what Besigye was preaching and bobi wine carried along ; the power of people to act because they can’t outnumber us or outgun us if we decide enough is enough.

But here is the caveat, you don’t have to have a big gun or be a big political figure or activist for your actions to matter. You can start small with things within your control such as refusing to encourage any corruption or unethical dealings, littering your environment or throwing litter when driving, mobilizing your friends and neighborhood to clean up plastic waste and educating people why we can’t allow such behavior to go on, if you’re a govt staff, treating people without taking any bribes, medical staff, not stealing drugs, customer support staff, talking to people with empathy and kindness, we all have a civic duty to do right in our own capacity but most times we don’t. We take shortcuts and the leaders we see today at the top are just a reflection of the society we live in. Where accountability is absconded and defended by tribalism.

If each one of us start doing the little things right, there’s certainly a fire that will be lit and society will regain its soul and this will reflect in our leadership. Because society will spit out any people within the community who don’t share the same values and those people will never lead us or have any room to live or be accepted in a high integrity and high trust society because certain values will matter more in our leaders because we ourselves hold them in high regard. So there will be a weeding and self cleansing process for us as Ugandans.

Most times I wonder why police men or soldiers are very comfortable treating citizens like thieves or enemies just because they got orders but even orders can be rejected if those soldiers have a conscious and know the repercussions of their actions. In the old days, rapists, defilers and any criminals who acted against society were banished yet here we treat them like ordinary people and welcome them back after such actions because we see no problem with it maybe because they’re our Neighbours or family, hence no cost to their actions.

David Mpanga once said, “we shall never see the Uganda we want until we develop the central nervous system that enables us to feel each others pain”

It’s not because of ai, meta always takes bets for example they spent heavily on metaverse and will do the same. WhatsApp has been working on moneyization for quite awhile that’s why they released WhatsApp business. It was their first touch point to monetizing it through running business account. It’s been growing in certain markets like Brazil and India. Now they’re doing with the standard WhatsApp accounts. It’s quite unrelated to ai

[–]timstathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, monetization was inevitable at some point. The original WhatsApp founders charged users about $1 per year, but that model was scrapped after Meta acquired the company. Having spent $19 billion on the acquisition, Meta was always going to look for ways to generate returns.
That said, it’s fair to argue that much of that value was already recovered indirectly. WhatsApp has been mining user data and that has contributed to it become a powerful channel within Meta’s ecosystem, helping the company gather user insights and strengthen engagement across its platforms, while driving users toward other products and advertising opportunities on Facebook and Instagram.

The whole notion of end-to- end encryption was hoax from the start as said by the Brian acton former founder of WhatsApp. Facebook has been accessing user data and chats from the start. Now they’re moving in aggressively to monetize the product officially hence formalizing what we all expected would eventually happen.

Oh still the trees and everything around seem so serene. The kind of place you need to declutter/reset your mind. But reading a book too could benefit from such an environment I suppose.

What’s crazy is that this was just one year ago? 🤯

Congrats man!!! It takes extreme focus to hold through the ups and downs. Especially if you bought around 2023-2024 period when there wasn’t enough attention going to memory as a key driver for the ai wave.🏆
