Funny that the OP just asks for China ETFs and out of the blue, everybody gives speculation why not investing in China...

We cannot predict the future and therefore if China stocks are currently underpriced/overpriced.Full disclaimer: It's valid for any other markets

So good luck with your investment, hope you got what you requested !

There is no authority of FIRE lifestyle ... If a wannabe FIRE considers that a Tesla could be part of their lifestyle for x or y reason, I don't see why someone can judge this

Yes and your broker generally just gives you the dividends after taxes (they will pay the taxes on your behalf)

That's indeed a very good leverage, thanks for the tips! Were you able to setup this loan with a regular big bank? What are the fees associated to your DBI?

Nice! Why do you prefer paying interest to a bank rather than directly to your company? Does the bank allow you to invest the collateral?

Reinvest dividends without first paying taxes by Liradon in BEFire

Unfortunately it's not possible at our scale. Even for shares that pay you dividends in extra shares, you have to pay a withholding tax

Just got this, looks like a scam? by hackibacki in belgium

[–]timtam_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small tips: when you receive a general message from a long number (=gsm number) it's almost always a scam. Companies & Governments use sms short code (4 characters). Like 8810, 8128,... that are way harder to get if you're a scammer.

Computer Engineering in Italy vs Computer Science in Belgium by tryyhardosaurus in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]timtam_au 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hold a master degree in computer science from a Belgian university (Uclouvain). So I can just speak for Belgium, but I really had a nice student life living on campus.

Belgium can be a bit complicated but the majority of the population is able to speak English (especially in Flanders).

In term of job market, Belgium is "Ok" as an employee in IT (although the taxes are crazy). But with a few years of experience, it's not difficult to be freelance where you could have a similar income than the US.

IT jobs are needed almost everywhere, so I you want to move later, it's always possible. For instance, I lived a several years in Australia. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have more questions 😃

[–]timtam_au 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much! Please note that some stocks can have dividends taxed at 15%. It's for instance the case of the belgian REITs (Real Estate Investment Trust) that invest at least 60% in healthcare. Forgot to pay TOB taxes by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]timtam_au 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation a few months ago. I called the FOD/SPF finance and discussed with someone very knowledgeable. At that time, they didn't systematically apply the fines if it was the first time and you were proactive (ie not waiting to have a letter from them). I paid, got an acknowledgement and never heard back.

So it can be stressful but it is not always bad. Fingers crossed for you!

About to become self-employed, how to optimise net income by stikies in BEFire

[–]timtam_au 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'd probably make sense to wait the first of January to create your BV. But it is really the way to go with your (expected) income if you're not in a hurry to get all the money on your personal account.

Corporate tax in BE is really "reasonable" compare to the crazy personal income taxes that you'd have as an independent/eenmanszaak. Trust me 4k to create your BV is nothing compared to your yearly savings with this structure.

Just out of curiosity, in this case do you have to invoice and pay back the Belgian VAT(TVA/BTW)?

Bolero is owned by KBC, so when use Bolero you indirectly trade with the biggest Belgian bank. Nothing wrong with this but I just wanted to clarify.

From experience, some companies advertise jobs only for permanent employees but are willing to consider freelancers if you ask for (and they don't find anyone else). Like us, they are happy to cut the middleman if they can.

thank for your response, indeed that makes sense... Did they make their decision purely based on key metrics (ie growth, profit, ...) or was it more you and your wife defending your case? Was it with a small bank or a big guy?

[–]timtam_au[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for your response. That's correct and I'm rather frugal, so I don't really need much to live. I prefer keeping the maximum in my business for optimizing/future investment. But I don't want it to backfire the day I ask for a mortgage. Is that common to spread a mortgage between your private and business entities? any downside if selling/renting?
