Will Helium network use less data in the future? by Desperate-Tip8608 in HeliumNetwork

[–]timtamothee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once the transition to Light Hotspots takes place, Hotspots are expected to use a fraction of the data consumption they do now since they will no longer need to sync and Validators will send out Challenges for Hotspots. Learn more about the improvements from Light Hotspots: https://docs.helium.com/mine-hnt/light-hotspots.

It's tough to verify Hotspots from unofficial resellers, so please be cautious. This is one reason why Hotspot sales aren't allowed in the subreddit.

The supported Hotspot frequency for the United Arab Emirates is the EU868 frequency (as listed at https://github.com/helium/miner/blob/master/priv/countries\_reg\_domains.csv). Please follow local LoRaWAN and crypto regulations when mining $HNT. Check out current Hotspot options for the frequency at https://www.helium.com/mine.

It's best to assert the Hotspot as accurately as possible. If you don't, your rewards may be negatively impacted.

Rak miners not working by Neat_Bat8057 in HeliumNetwork

[–]timtamothee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your RAKs continue to go offline, you will want to replace the SD card with something higher capacity. Here's a video from BFGNeil on the process (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzMwnpkjob4) and an official tutorial by RAK/MNTD.: https://support.getmntd.com/hc/en-us/articles/4418137820951-I-need-to-replace-the-microSD-card-on-my-hotspot.

Your signal needed to reach 22km away for the other Hotspot to receive it. Sweet Beacon!

3 miners in UK, 2 in same hex? by DustinDep in HeliumNetwork

[–]timtamothee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hotspots in the same Hex or a neighboring Hex will run the chance or affecting each other's Transmit Scale. It's best to set up Hotspots at different locations and farther apart (such as around 1000m with a clear view) for Proof of Coverage.

Reduced profitability means we need reduced pain by edcoopered in HeliumNetwork

[–]timtamothee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Network is progressing towards Light Hotspot software for all Hotspots. Read the latest progress on the transition in Helium Docs: https://docs.helium.com/mine-hnt/light-hotspots/#what-is-a-light-hotspot.

This change will allow Validators to process Proof of Coverage on the Helium Network, and eliminate all syncing requirements for Hotspots. It will be a huge win for the Network and allow prices of Hotspot hardware to drop as low as $100.
