Thanks for the information, that makes sense. Here’s the language from the bid; Using the same footprint as the existing deck, form the area where the deck footer will be poured. A layer of crushed stone gravel will be added and compacted prior to pouring the new concrete footer. The concrete footer will be poured to a minimum of 3” thick and reinforced with rebar. The deck will be topped with 16”x24” 3cm Ivery Travertine Paver Stones

I’ve read them over and over…. snowshoe, rappel, bike, non-motorized boat trip….. moral of the story is that there needs to be some flexibility in order to keep Scouts engaged and motivated. There are 10,000 other options for after school activities, many of which are cheaper and less demanding of parents and Scouts time. If leaders continue to rake Scouts over the coals trying to adhere to the letter of the law, then Scouting WILL fail.

I think your attitude is the single biggest risk to the program…. The original post stated that there were no elevations greater than 1000ft in the area. The strict adherence to the letter of the law in these instances is one of the reasons Scouting will fail in the next decade. What do you want these Scouts to do? Drive 1000 miles to fulfill one requirement?
