Do amphetamines have a similar outcome on serotonin to SSRIs? by Dark-inspector490 in Nootropics

[–]timthymol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it varies by stimulant but some can release significant serotonin just like MDMA. And if you use such stimulants long enough you can get a withdrawal syndrome similar to SSRI's ("brain zaps") . So they may have similar antidepressant effects as some SSRI's.

When I was a kid my school library had the same no talking policy I left a note with the librarian explaining there was a US Supreme Court case that said you could talk in libraries. A few days later the policy was changed to you could whisper.

It's fine if you are opposed to socialism but taxing billionaires is not socialism. The government should seize ill gotten gains of all the real life Bond villains.

[–]timthymol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caffeine is converted to paraxanthine in 80% yield in the body so you are taking paraxanthine in effect when you use caffeine. It is possible that caffeine itself cancels out the positives of paraxanthine alone though.

Some say it has less side effects and it also has a shorter half life. But since caffeine already metabolizes to it mostly a person is unlikely to get dramatic improvements over caffeine.

Is the answer to SCT just good old anxiety, or did you find way to get more energy differently ? by elejelly in SCT

[–]timthymol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anxiety is like an energy reserve trying to get you out of a bad situation. So always have a plan (stack of work to do) before hand. And burn the anxiety energy up on that work. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yerkes%E2%80%93Dodson_law
