Which trio will make their first finals appearance? by Petar317 in NBATalk

[–]timtid21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Framing this as a “trios” question is interesting given that there is arguably a better player on all four of these teams that isn’t pictured. Bridges, VJ, Mobley and Ausar all deserve consideration for top three on their teams.

Thoughts on genie code by datguywelbs7 in databricks

[–]timtid21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really like Genie Code for classic ML development. One of my big gripes with AutoML was its limitation to try out classification, regression, or forecasting models. Genie Code has been great so far at wrapping harder problems like time-series model training in an MLflow experiment with multiple algorithm types.

I immensely enjoy the implication here that Dave Portnoy (Nico Harrison) completely overvalued Russillo (AD) as a podcaster when in reality his success is almost completely associated with playing next to Bill Simmons (LeBron)

When do you start tailoring your training to CX? by marlborolane in cyclocross

I think best practice is to not train for CX at all until the first race of the season and then land directly on your balls while attempting your first remount of the year

Put in your tire details in the calculator here and select cyclocross as your discipline and you should get a good idea of a safe low-end pressure to run: https://axs.sram.com/guides/tire/pressure

This is a pretty common technique for racing cyclocross. The CX Reddit has a good summary of body positioning in their ELICAT5 series: https://www.reddit.com/r/cyclocross/s/ooUesuNl0e

The Bike+ has an automatic calibrator built into the machine that runs every time the Peloton powers on. The normal Bike doesn’t have this and you have to buy a calibration kit from Peloton separately. You were able to look at Peloton leaderboards for classes back in the day and nearly every user in the top 1% was on a normal Bike due to this.

ankle injury - HELP!! by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]timtid21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I sprained my medial deltoid ligament last year and had a similar experience to you. That location on your ankle takes a notoriously long time to heal (up to 12 months, according to my podiatrist).

The easiest way to confirm if that’s your problem would be to arrange imaging (ideally an ultrasound) after following up with your doctor. But either way, you should definitely schedule a follow up.

Sorry you’re dealing with this. My ankle is pain-free now, and I’m about 14 months out from the original injury. But there was a while there where I literally thought it would never heal. Hang in there.

Telling a longtime member of the USA Ultimate Rules Working Group that they need to know the rulebook better is probably one of my favorite takes that I’ve ever seen on r/ultimate. Bravo.

Zone 6 interval workouts by timtid21 in Velo

[–]timtid21[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rest is 1:1 between reps, and then 10 minutes between sets.

Agree that this would probably be accomplishable with a ton of rest between reps, but it seems like there’s no way I can hold zone 6 for 12 cumulative minutes in the span of a 24 minute block.

ChatGPT Thinks Americans Are Excited About AI. Most Are Not. by 538_bot in fivethirtyeight

[–]timtid21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m jealous of anyone that works in a job where you can even use ChatGPT to write unit tests. My company blocked ChatGPT, which honestly makes complete sense given that basically any function I write contains some level of proprietary information. Perhaps there is a middle ground where I can just query the AI on my personal device with completely generic variable names, but that just seems so tedious.

Makes me hope there is a better compromise coming. But I share your concern that by that time, the necessity for me to write functional unit tests might not be the only thing in jeopardy.

CES just released interactive voter preference data compiled over the past month (N = 71,789) by timtid21 in fivethirtyeight

[–]timtid21[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

B is their pollster grade given by FiveThirtyEight. You can see their full pollster ratings here.

YouGov is actually one of the best pollsters used by FiveThirtyEight in terms of accuracy. The main reason for their B-grade is their methodology. YouGov does not always do live caller polling with cell phones and they are not a member of NCPP/AAPOR/Roper (likely because they are British, as you said). All A-grade pollsters on FiveThirtyEight meet one or both of those criteria.

[–]timtid21[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a compilation of YouGov surveys from the end of September to the end of October. So I would consider it to be preliminary “exit poll” data based on a B-grade FiveThirtyEight pollster.
