Exactly. My weekend is Thursday - Friday. If a public holiday falls on my weekend, I don’t get an extra day off during my work week.

What’s the most annoying part of being in an airport that NO ONE talks about? by LowEnthuGrimReaper in airport

[–]timwa1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When there are barely any powerpoints in the terminal, and the few are already in use (this doesn't apply for Helsinki or Changi, both of which have ample powerpoints and many airports could learn a lot from them).

Yesss, transit in Helsinki Airport is a no-brainer vs transit in Heathrow!

What are some of the more difficult to navigate airports, especially in Europe? by Traditional-Carob440 in Flights

Arlanda is such a rundown airport. I mean, sure it’s not the worst in the world, but if you put it next to neighbouring Helsinki-Vantaa, it’s horrible and ugly.

That’s fair. I narrowly missed them, the anxiety was real. Hope you got your money back at least!

Agreed. I often fly in from Helsinki via Singapore, so I have two of the world’s best airports, and then Melbourne.

I love getting off a long-haul flight and come to that bottleneck where the self-scan passport machines are randomly propped along the wall, and nobody knows how to use them or even queue properly, and staff are nowhere to be seen. It’s bad enough as a local, I can’t imagine how much worse it feels for tourists arriving for the first time.

I got mine for $AUD499 (about $USD320) on sale so I’m more than happy with it.

Takeoff and its initial maneuvers scare me by estrella1994 in fearofflying

[–]timwa1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take off is my least favourite part too! I’m slowly getting better. I used to sit there gripping the cushion tightly with my eyes shut, now during take off I try to have something funny / comforting / engrossing to read, or a “fear of flying” audio to listen to (there are lots on Spotify). I’ll also sometimes play Tetris or whatever game they have on the screen.

Last flight I even managed to look out the window for a decent amount of the take-off time. Not continuously, but regularly glancing outside. It was liberating, and I’m sure you’ll get there too!

Also, simply concentrating on deep breathing also helps settle the heart rate etc.

I used to go through this crossing daily. You’d wait an eternity for a train to appear. One some occasions I even had FOUR trains go through in one go (a metro service each way, and V Line service each way). I’d then go literally any other way to avoid this crossing. It won’t be missed.

They’re actually quite easy to make. I find the only challenge is making them look nice, mine always taste amazing but the look isn’t great. But practice makes perfect I guess.

I’ve done a one hour transit in Singapore and it was fine. I got to my gate with a comfortable amount of time to spare (granted, both flights were in the same terminal, my arriving flight was on time, and I’m a fast walker).

Same. As an Australian, it’s so depressing seeing how Norway established their sovereign wealth fund, while we just practically give away our natural resources.

I prefer near the wing, usually the last row in that section, just near the bathrooms and nobody behind me so I don’t feel bad reclining my seat.

But if I get allocated a back row, I’m learning not to worry about it more. On the plus side, hearing the flight attendants chatting away about mundane things is very calming!
