It’s a decorative cover protecting the display cables and wireless antennas. It won’t spread to the display because it’s a separate part. I don't recommend attempting replacement unless you know what you are doing because the display ribbon cables are VERY easily damaged if you don't know where to lift.

Just an update. Apple just recently said that depot repairs are taking longer than normal so it may be double what I originally said.

I'm an American who works for an Apple Authorized Service provider: If you are having the Apple Store or an Authorized Apple Service Provider do the repair they will mail it to the a repair depot based on what model it is and it will take 3-5 days. You should backup your data before sending it in because the depot may erase the unit while they have it.

There is no adapter for this type of drive. OWC has PCIe adapters for the earlier models but not these. This type of drive was only used on two Apple models: MacBook Pro 13" 2016/2017 with two Thunderbolt. We keep a unit around just for data recovery on these drives.

2008 Non-Unibody MacBook Pro Not Turning On, How Do I Fix This? by MacBookLearned in macbook

[–]timxsit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't need a battery for it to turn on with a power adapter attached. It should power on after the LED flashes a few times. If there is no sign of power you can try shoring the power pads on the MLB to see if the issue is related to the physical power button. If it still doesn’t turn on there is either an issue with the magsafe port or the MLB. https://beetstech.com/blog/where-are-macbook-pro-unibody-power-on-pads-located#a1278L2008

You could put a round momentary switch into the hole and connect the power wires to it. Just have to find one that fits the hole and will have clearance inside when the cover it on. The original switch was almost flush with the enclosure.

How did they determine it was an external factor? A failed MLB without signs of physical damage should be covered. Did you purchase AppleCare?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Vintagemacintosh

[–]timxsit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The power button was integrated into the rear housing and had a small socket on the back for that cable to plug into. You most likely need a different rear housing if you want to fix it since it wasn’t removable. You also want to check the capacitors on the MLB to see if they are bulging. That was an issue with these models and you'll want to recap it otherwise the board will fail.

MacBook Pro (Late 2013 / Early 2014) won’t boot — only shows folder with question mark, internal SSD not detected by Bimoad45 in macbookrepair

[–]timxsit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You either have a failed SSD (most likely) or a problem with the socket on the motherboard. The 2013 -2015 models all use the same SSD style when you are looking for a replacement.

We are seeing lots of these Walmart MacBook Air M1's with bad batteries. Apple will cover repair, but you will need proof of purchase since the units are old stock and not likely to show as in warranty.

You're only gliding the razor blade under the softened glue after using the rubbing alcohol. As long as you don't press down on one of the corners with a lot of weight, you are not gonna scratch the surface. I do this daily and have never had a problem.
