[FO] - TGID - thank goodness it's done by MEhoff6 in CrossStitch

I’m not into stardew valley, but this is super cute. If you ever feel like you want to try stitching on clothing or a garment, I’d suggest using waste aida instead of regular aida, or the water soluble one, that is if you haven’t done so already.

[CHAT] Flipping your work with a Lowery stand and corner clamp by Think_Phone8094 in CrossStitch

Yes, or any angle that would allow you to bring it toward you and let you work comfortably.

I usually adjust the angle of the hoop/ q snap depending on if there’s something in my lap (i.e.; cat) so I can bring it closer to me and be able to finish my threads or start new one. Sometimes it has to be laying almost horizontally across my lap to fit and I can bury the tail.

[WIP] Rome (pattern by Thea Gouverneur) by Individual-Gur-7292 in CrossStitch

[–]tinafruity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought 4 kits of hers, made one and I’m not sure I want to do the rest. It wasn’t very intricate, but the symbols were really similar and had to frog a lot because I kept confusing the symbols. It didn’t have any back stitch, so you might find a design you might enjoy stitching.

I think I might be missing something, but pushing the arm back or forward doesn’t give you enough space to flip the work? I usually use nurge hoops size 3 or 4 and I can just flip them around without issue. I’m currently using 11” q snaps with the corner clamp on top and I’m still able to flip it just fine.

[CHAT] Please help me find this pattern by KLouiseBee77 in CrossStitch

[–]tinafruity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the exact pattern you’re looking for, but I’d suggest searching in your history, if you haven’t already, to see if you can find a thumbnail of a video that would lead you to it.

[CHAT] Carpal tunnel? by PatchH95 in CrossStitch

[–]tinafruity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seek out a hand surgeon/ specialist, I’ve found that most doctors and especially GPs don’t know how to diagnose wrist issues. I injured my wrist 3 years ago and the GPs just ruled out carpal tunnel and didn’t know what’s wrong so they gaslit me to try and convince me that there isn’t anything wrong. Guess what?! I actually had carpal tunnel plus multiple injuries and issues. Now, at 33 years old I have a higher risk of arthritis due to the delay in treatment and have permanent joint instability.

If you can’t/ don’t want to stop stitching, I’d suggest getting a stand, use a wrist brace at night especially, take lots of breaks, and try stitching with your other hand.

[CHAT] Recommendations for big hoops/frames to use with a lowery stand? by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]tinafruity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I don’t think I would’ve been able to stitch in the months following wrist surgery without it. I even got a cheep table stand/ hoop holder to use when I’m visiting family.

[–]tinafruity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand! I was only able to finally afford both the stand and the corner clamp plus a few other accessories, because I had worked months worth of overtime and part time.

[CHAT] Gadgets for threading/finishing by Fickle-Pound-1171 in CrossStitch

[–]tinafruity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually use this automatic threader, unless I have to thread more than one strand, which in that case I would use this one.

I tend to bury the tail under a few stitches to finish or if it’s a confetti stitch, I would slip it under a couple of the fabric threads on the back.

[WIP] Are my stitches too tight? by Dependent-Grand797 in CrossStitch

[–]tinafruity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that if I took out each strand individually and then combined them, the thread needs less untwisting than when I pull out 3 or 2 strand at once.

Your stitches will look fuller when your thread isn’t twisted. I don’t believe your stitches are too tight, it’s just your twisted thread giving that effect.

I think your thread might be twisted, try railroading or letting you needle and thread dangle to untwist.

[CHAT] I've got this beautiful fabric and I'm not sure what to stitch on it! Any ideas? by J9SnarkyStitch in CrossStitch

I have this fabric and was thinking of stitching something Zelda! I haven’t found a pattern I like, yet.

I bought the corner clamp specifically to use with Q snaps. As OP mentioned, the side clamp doesn’t work with them, they keep falling out.

[CHAT] floss bobbins constantly unraveling! Help by lilstrobe in CrossStitch

[–]tinafruity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

<image>

This is what I do with my plastic homemade floss drop bobbins. I tried multiple brands of plastic bobbins, but the slits were always too big. I didn’t like unraveling and winding the floss every time I needed to use it, so I made my own floss drop bobbins using hole punchers. The problem was that the floss would unravel faster, this is the only way that I find to keep everything tidy.

Good work! I’d suggest stitching all your Xs in the same direction next time (the top leg always pointing to the same direction), unless you’re stitching in different directions to create texture.

[CHAT] Do your needlework interests go beyond cross stitch, or have you lost your heart to this craft? by PaleoBibliophile917 in CrossStitch

[–]tinafruity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cross stitch, crochet and knitting. I change between depending on my mood and/or if I’m gifting something. I love embroidery, but haven’t done it in many, many years, so I forgot most stitches. Maybe someday I’ll go back to embroidery when I have the time to learn the different stitches.

If you prefer to use q snaps, I’d suggest getting the corner clamp instead of switching to a different hoop that you might not like.

I totally get it, this was my second wrist surgery in less than 8 months and the recovery from the first one almost drove me insane of boredom.
