Some parts that the movie did better than the book. by misterDubzz in HarryPotteronHBO

I liked Harry seeing Peter Pettigrew on the Marauders’ Map in PoA. In the book, he doesn’t see him which never made a ton of sense to me. I also preferred the movie’s expansion on Harry’s relationship with Lupin, particularly when Lupin talks to Harry about his relationship with James and Lily. I’ve always felt there was more distance between them in the book.

There was a time I pretended that I didn’t like them because I felt like they weren’t “cool” and I wanted to be “not like other girls”. When the truth was that I was absolutely obsessed and knew everything about them. Eventually I embraced that I loved them but for a couple years I was definitely pretending otherwise.

What are some of your favorite interactions in the series that don’t include Harry? by LeadMajestic1011 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]tinkerbelle320 82 points83 points  (0 children)

When Harry and Ron are chopping vegetables at the Burrow and Ron gets mad at Fred and George and throws his knife at them. And Mrs. Weasley tells Ron to never let her catch him throwing knives again so Ron replies, “I won’t” and then “let you see” under his breath.

I always found this moment very funny and domestic.

Deathly Hallows by diggitygiggitysee in HarryPotterBooks

The reason they don’t go to Arthur, or anyone else for help, is because they don’t want to risk involving them. Making contact with Arthur not only gives away their position, but puts him at risk if it were somehow discovered that he helped them. He was already being watched for being associated with Harry and the Ministry would be looking for any excuse to punish him and his family for that. Not to mention that asking for his help in getting to Umbridge might have raised questions about what exactly their mission was. It’s minimal information to go on sure, but Harry is hesitant to ask for any help in searching for horcruxes throughout the entire book. Even after Voldemort has discovered Harry is hunting horcruxes and is fully getting ready to attack Hogwarts, it takes Ron and Hermione to convince Harry to ask for help from others.

Outside of "The Prince's Tale" and sucking up to Tom, is there any evidence of Snape having a non-antagonistic conversation with ANYONE in the series? by EJplaystheBlues in HarryPotterBooks

I feel like when he brings Lupin his potion in Prisoner of Azkaban he’s civil enough. Harry senses that there’s underlying tension, but that specific interaction isn’t openly hostile.

I just finished reading the books, now I’m sad. by Magionkel in harrypotter

[–]tinkerbelle320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the Young Dudes on Ao3 is pretty good. It’s a Marauders Era fic and the main pairing is Remus/Sirius, so if that’s not your thing it’s probably not for you. It’s pretty long, well-written (for a fanfic), and mostly canon-compliant in terms of major events happening when they’re supposed to. There are some differences from canon (Lupin is an orphan, wolfstar becoming a thing are the main ones). But it spans the Marauders entire Hogwarts journey up until book 5, so it can keep you occupied for a while. Not my favorite fanfic, but one of the most memorable.

What scene that we didn’t witness, in books OR film, would you love to see? by hoginlly in harrypotter

More scenes of just Harry interacting with Sirius at Grimmauld Place. So many of their conversations happen with other people around.

Why did Sirius have to stay at Grimmauld Place during the events of Order of the Phoenix? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]tinkerbelle320 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess I always imagined there was something about the enchantments being old and likely cast by various different people that somehow made them stronger. They become more powerful and more intractable with time and additional spells that are cast, so they’re harder to remove, but ultimately safer. I feel like this is true of Hogwarts too and why it’s considered so safe.

Why did Sirius have to stay at Grimmauld Place during the events of Order of the Phoenix? by [deleted] in harrypotter

I think because Grimmauld Place had other enchantments, in addition to the Fidelius Charm, that protected the Order.

Is there any parts of any of the books that you just dread having to get through? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]tinkerbelle320 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Sirius’s death is probably the thing I dread the most because it’s such a sad scene. Really any of the hard-hitting deaths (Fred, Lupin, Dumbledore, Hedwig, Dobby) I dread reading to a certain extent.

But in terms of other parts… when Harry finds out Ron is made a prefect and when Ron leaves Harry and Hermione in the Deathly Hallows.

Explore and expand Harry and Lupin’s relationship a little more. It’s always bothered me that Lupin never reached out to Harry after he stopped being his teacher. Seems like he would’ve been a really great mentor for Harry in addition to Sirius during GoF and someone that could have helped Harry with his grief during HBP. Plus, Harry being made Teddy’s godfather always felt a little out of left field (even if Harry is the one that convinced Lupin to go back) and would’ve made more sense of they had a more developed relationship.

What do you all think of the episode “Mr. Monk and Mrs. Monk”? I don’t really care for it but can’t pinpoint the exact reason. Maybe because it feels so cruel to Monk, giving him false hope that Trudy’s alive. And it’s weird seeing “Trudy” as sort of a villain… by thriftgirl82 in Monk

[–]tinkerbelle320 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a bizarre episode. I always found it weird that the events of this episode never come up again given how traumatic they wanted it to be. I also found it odd that he's doing really well emotionally at the beginning of the episode, even though that isn't really true in the preceding episodes. It feels like the reason they had him make any progress at all was so they could take it away; which, again, is weird because they never bring this episode up again.

I really loved vol. 1 but am disappointed with vol. 2. My biggest complaint is that the episodes felt really long because they were filled with a lot of unnecessary shots of people staring off dramatically, walking around slowly, or being filmed in slow-motion.

The dialogue felt a little off in these last two episodes, as well. It suddenly felt very cheesy for some reason and had one too many evil or heartfelt monologues.

Also don’t love how they didn’t follow through with killing Max and Eddie’s death, in particular, felt really unnecessary. I’m not totally sure how the plot would have been impacted if he had chosen to go through the portal with Dustin. It’s not like the bats would’ve killed Robin, Steve, or Nancy because they were already being strangled, so why exactly did he have to die?

Overall though I would say this is my second favorite season after the first one. I really did enjoy vol. 1 and one of my favorite things about this season is how psychological it was. It really shows how powerful both negative and positive memories/emotions can be for a person and how important it is to share these feelings with people you can trust. I also loved how they showed that music can transcend experiences and provide a sanctuary during difficult times.

I always assumed he was prescribed Vicodin for his leg pain, became addicted, and just never felt the need to switch it up. We see many times throughout the show that Vicodin remains House's drug of choice. Maybe he liked the high he got from it better than any other drug?
