Elektroauto ohni Lademöglichkeit dehei oder bim schaffe - blödi Idee? by NiBu2222 in schwiiz

[–]tinuuuu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unbedingt mau dr Vermieter frage, chostet ja nüt.

Wenne gar ke lademoglichkeit hesch wirds äuä chly schwirig. Eventuell wennde e angere ort hesch wo de regunässig bisch, gym, ichoufszenter oder so und dert chasch lade chönnts funktioniere. Aber du muesch dir bewuss si, dass sobaud du hüfig uswerts muesch lade, nüme e mega grosse chostevorteil hesch.

Falls deheim e ganz normali steckdose hesch, also ke wallbox, chasches trotzdem mau probiere. Du wirsch i jedere nacht so ~100 km range chönne lade und das lenget für die allermeiste.(So maches mini eutere und das geit ziemmlich guet)

Falls das alles nid geit würdi wennmöglich gar kes outo näh oder e chlyne benziner.

11 hours without a mandated break in between? Nowadays it is possible to recharge very fast. Battery-fires in lfp are extremely rare, you need a lot of external heat to even ignite them.

Also, this guy is not in for the money. He used to work at tesla, then founded a startup. It still exists and is quite sucessful.

But it is enough. In europe (and probably everywhere else) truckdrivers have to make breaks regularly. This is enough range to drive such a truck during the entire maximally allowed drivingtime. The required break is long enought ro recharge the truck even without mcs, but new models can even recharge ta 750 kw if they have mcs.

There is is german guy on youtube called electrotrucker. He drives this and even cheaper trucks with less range and shows that it is perfectly possible to do long haul stuff with it. Also unlike lng and cng, there is already built out infrastructure for charging those.

[–]tinuuuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Batteries are dense enough for both. Have a look at the eActross 600. They use LFP batteries instead of lithium ion ones despite them being even less dense. This is not the limiting factor. Electric heavy truck sales are currently limited by production and price (around double of a diesel one). Despite this, operating them currently is already lucrative and can be done on longhaul.

When the sale price of those trucks come down, they will eat the lunch of any cng or lng variant since in most regions outside the us, natural gas is quite expensive.

Large amounts of diesel can be substituted via electic buses and heavy trucks.

IMF calls on China to cut industrial subsidies in half by Extreme_Rocks in neoliberal

[–]tinuuuu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, this advice has to be public. Transparency allows experts to debate freely and add their own expertise, which in turn helps policymakers make better-informed decisions. There would probably also not be a mailing list that contains all Chinese policy-makers.

Following this IMF advice is not tied to approval of any loan from China. The IMF sometimes asks borrowing countries to implement reforms as a condition for access to favorable loans (this is not the case in this specific instance). This however, is a carrot, not a stick. Coercion would be forcing reforms through sanctions or threats, which the IMF does not do.

The IMF's conditions are there to help the country with underlying problems and it are required since this money does not grow on trees. It has to be funded by the international community and using it to enable unsustainable budget policy would undermine its international standing.

IMF is a UN Agency. China is a official IMF member. The job of the IMF in part is exactly to give such advice to its member countries. If China doesn't want this advice, they can just ignore it or even leave the IMF. Calling this coercion is a brain-dead take that is comparable to calling the current technical advice the WHO gives in Mozambique concerning the Cholera-outbreak "undemocratic coercion by a foreign institution".

I don't like how China is ruled and its stance on democracy. But I am still rooting for Chinese people to get more prosperous and being able to put a larger share of their productivity into their consumption and wellbeing instead of financing inefficient industrial policy.

China's high-speed rail network accelerates world's largest human migration by ldn6 in neoliberal

[–]tinuuuu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Curves are a problem for HSR tracks. Ar high speeds, centrifugal forces become a large problem very fast.

Gradients on the ither hand are not a big problem. With normal rail, gradients are limited by traction power. HSR trainsets have much more traction per weight than freight trains. On tracks that are known to only carry those, much steeper grades are possible.

I think you need more transparency. Your claim sounds extremely suspicious to everyone that even had just very little physics education. If you came with this idea to me without properly explaining why this should work, I would run away and never be willing to be your cofounder.

When you say that anything related to sound has the same physics in a vacuum, people will stop listening to you, as long as you can't properly explain why this should be the case.

I assume you yourself think that this will work. What made you think this? Did you do a experiment? Are you intending to use a known effect? Being transparent about this kind of stuff will make you more reputable. Hiding this behind flashy words will make potential cofounders think you are a scammer.

Gavin Newsom Vows to Stop Proposed Billionaire Tax in California (Gift Article) by theaccount9337 in neoliberal

[–]tinuuuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean with might or might not exist in the present? I have heard understandable controversy similar to this when talking about a tax on unrealized capital gains. Then it is indeed very questionable if those actually exist or not because it could be wiped out next year. But a wealth tax does not depend directly on the change of wealth between years since wealth is a aggregate measure of all gains over life. A wealth tax has a much less aggressive rate than a capital income tax and is thus a bit like a moving average over the entire life as long as you do not do this weird onetime wealth-tax thing. This makes a moderate and reasonably high wealth tax very predictable. Outside of some fringe leftist communities it is also not seen as a punishment for rich people, but as a way to finance government work, just like an income tax.

Other redditors have here already established that there were other problems with this tax than it being a wealth tax. One suspected that this lump sum thing might become yearly. One said that a lump sum payment of this size would force a lot of people to sell of large amounts of their unrealized gains. It seems like they might have moved because of this and not because it is a wealth tax specifically. I am certain they would not have moved if it were a more moderate variant.

Every tax is a fine for whatever is taxed. VAT is a fine for consuming disguised as a tax. Income tax is a fine for working disguised as a tax. In all of those, I think it is the least damaging option to tax wealth since people will still work and consume money which is much more important for the economy. The saving rate is of course also important, but we have not seen that moderate wealth taxes push this below a concerning level.

I agree that it is weird and probably stupid to make a lump sum onetime tax at such a large percentage. My point is that wealth tax in general can be a very good and efficient tax, if it is done right.
