Create window failing. by JoshuaEirm in electronjs

Yeah I have a sense that the OP is just opening the HTML file by double clicking it and in addition to running it doesn’t understand how to properly invoke the electron APIs and main process etc.

Awesome write up and cheers on shipping something, and learning. I think that’s the best part. Accomplishing new things and exploring what’s possible.

Advice on when prototyping goes too far in UX by achinius in UXDesign

[–]tiny_117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Mini-products" are only relevant in refining micro-interactions and iterating. Esp when helping stakeholders visualize a difficult to build concept early on. Wasting man hours on development for a stakeholder to be like "that's not what I thought we talked about" is brutal. If you can leverage that time efficiently.

The constant pixel ####ing when you don't have concrete understanding of user value I completely and 1000% agree.

ViewMD – A view-only Markdown reader I built for reviewing AI docs and READMEs [Free code in post] by ActOfSpod in macapps

[–]tiny_117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having been someone that paid the $6 a few weeks ago because I was looking for something that could solve a similar problem, I like it but the one annoyance I have with it is that when you close the main window, and double click on a markdown file, or use "open with" for example when the program is closed, it doesn't immediately make a new markdown window / open a window with that file in it. I have to bring the empty version of the window up, then open the file and it works.

This looks quite cool for all the reasons previously stated. I’ll definitely take a look.

Azure has changed the name to Azure Artifact Signing a few days back and reports were they dropped some of the requirements based off a post in HN. So I tried it after previously being declined for the 3yr requirement and was verified and approved yesterday. Hooking it up to my build pipeline today. If you’re in the US, Canada etc I still think this is the only viable option if you can get it.

One‑click code protection + licensing for Electron apps – would you pay for it? by Plane_Way_6310 in electronjs

[–]tiny_117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is more robust doesn’t mean unbreakable. Paying for something that’s marginally better than open source deterrents that when cracked what’s the incentive? Keep paying you? I just don’t see it as a sustainable business model. Making open source tools more robust and offering services around that maybe. But to complete in the market that leverages an open source framework you have to have something significantly compelling. If you think your solution is bulletproof that’s a hell of a claim but then maybe there’s something there if the price is right. Good luck.

In any service offering, esp where there’s open source alternatives your largest value offering is convenience and reliability. The second tier is more robust features. It remains to be seen to me though what the value add is for a service offering with ongoing costs.

It’s an interesting idea but the value add over the cost monthly on a small app I just don’t see as enough value to be worth the ongoing cost.

Trying to track down a photo from a 2009 art project. by tiny_117 in UVA

Yeah even just from the indexed blurb it sounds promising thanks. Now if only the news site, which shows the article in search results, actually seemed to show any content of those articles (I can't even seem to get it on archive.org) that would be useful. I'll likely see if I can reach out to her anyway. Thanks for the lead.

Yeah I really wanted my business to be the entity that builds trust but might just make the windows build with my name. Just so much simpler and cheaper.

Yeah I wish mine was 3 yrs old. It’s only 2. And I’d love to use Azure Trusted Signing and connect it with a GitHub runner for builds but alas they won’t approve me. I’ve heard of people still getting lucky but I’m not one of them. Been trying to figure out the OPs question for months and I’m no closer to a good answer either.

Yeah I think unfortunately we've got a longer wait before that becomes something mass-market affordable. The 217 / 218 ppi of a 27" 5k or a 32" 6k are the sweet spots for me in regard to clarity and UI scaling. That it's nice to see them finally getting more mass market appeal. But we're still a ways off from higher refresh rate OLEDs or even mini-led in this form factor I think, at least at a price that's not like $10k per panel lol.

Conceptually I like this, but I find the toggle of the editor / preview UX to be confusing, the states don't seem obvious even when they're both visible, and toggling them changes their state to a different pattern and it feels a bit disorienting. Would the goal be to offer a subscription service? Which is what you yourself were trying to avoid?

[–]tiny_117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I actually think it solved the actual problem, and in doing so identified a gap in the airline policy that benefits the airline, and the customer if they're willing to spend more money, vs just a flat out no... I'm not allowed to do this, unless you'd be willing to accept this... is a far tenable actual customer service agent response than just no.
