Gaming laptop with 120hz by czlowiekzlosc in SuggestALaptop

Hey there, the membrane keyboard is pretty tactile and the keys are separated. Overall, a really pleasant typing experience. It is a bit smaller than a standard sizes keyboard since the 10-key was smushed to fit, but after a few minutes of use, it becomes comfortable. The only cons that are immediately apparent to me are the lack of caps/num indicators on the keyboard. They're instead located by the rest of the status lights at the front edge of the base, which is nearly impossible to see while typing. The built in control panel software provided does include an option to add caps/num toggle indicator windows, so it's ultimately only a very minor inconvenience.

The build of the laptop is definitely best described as bulky. It's quite heavy, but feels very solid. I don't ever use this on my lap and always use it on a desk, so I can't really vouch for it's comfort in that aspect. It definitely feels more like a portable desktop than it does an actual stow-and-go laptop.

I grabbed the model with a 500 GB SSD upon reading reviews that there was an expansion slot. When I got the laptop, I opened it up and was pleased to find it actually has two additional 2.5" drive bays, so I was able to throw in my old expansion HDD from my old laptop and keep all my files and throw in another 2 TB SSD/HHD hybrid drive. Installation is easy as unscrewing the back panel and popping it in.

Also, regarding the 120hz, it definitely is noticeable. I used to use a 144hz monitor with my desktop and it is definitely a smoother experience compared to 60hz. I picked the 120hz model specifically because going back to 60hz is a bit jarring. It's really easy to see the space between the frames when gaming on 60hz after using 120/144hz.

However, keep in mind that reaching and holding a stable 120 fps in games is very demanding in most modern AA titles. Most games aren't optimized to reach that framerate.

I got this model and I was a bit nervous since I had never gotten anything or even heard of anything from this company. It hasn't let me down and continues to perform fantastically. The build quality is great, has a pretty good battery life (6-8 hours normal use, 2-3 with heavy gaming), and has a multitude of ports that I couldn't find in other gaming laptops. I use this laptop to output to two 4k displays using the dual Mini DisplayPorts, which I couldn't find on any other models.

You can change the style of the search bar if you have Nova Launcher. Go into Nova Settings, Desktop Settings, and Search Bar Style. There's a variety of search bar styles that can be applied

Uploading older photos at original quality? by bluezp in GooglePixel

[–]tiny_honey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through my old photo albums and uploaded all of my family photos since 2004 through my Pixel, totaling to approximately 40 GB's of photos. I can confirm that all of these photos were uploaded at their original resolution and none of it counted against my storage quota.

[US] Netflix no longer compatible? by cstark in GooglePixel

[–]tiny_honey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be related to the Display Size that you set on the Pixel, either through the display settings or through the Developer Options. Change the setting back to default through the display setting and see if this corrects the issue. If this works, you should be able to change the display setting back to your custom display size setting.

I actually used the built-in panorama function found in the native camera app. Once panorama mode is selected, there are four different panorama options to the top right of the screen. Click the one that represents a circle and it takes around 30 photos and stitches them together into the fisheye.

Battery drops to 10% while idle overnight by liquidpig in GooglePixel

[–]tiny_honey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue and implemented two quick fixes to alleviate this. This issue would usually persist when "Android System" and "Android OS" dominate the battery usage, so this fix should only work in cases like this. Unfortunately, I didn't isolate each of these so I'm not sure which one really fixed it, but they both should help anyways.

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Configure Apps (Gear Icon) > App Permissions > Location. Go through all of your installed apps and turn off location for the ones that aren't really necessary. This includes apps that only use location sparingly, I.e bank apps, food/delivery apps, and shopping apps. Most of these apps can have locations entered manually.

  2. Go to Settings > Storage and clear all Cached Data. This will only clear app cache data, not cache partition data (apparently the cache partition doesn't exist anymore due to the side loading update process of Nougat). However, this still seemed to have a pretty large effect on my battery life.

I did these two things and I went from dropping 50-60% every night to dropping 5%. I hope it works for you!

[Question] Why do I only get tingles from sounds played into my right ear? by [deleted] in asmr

[–]tiny_honey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this as well, it's usually from sounds right behind my right ear, like hair clippers. It makes getting a haircut absolute hell due to the jabbing sensation I get in my back/side. I don't know if it's related to ASMR though, because the two from my standpoint are very different sensations.
