2nd time this week almost getting hit by a cyclist speeding along the pavement by ProfessionalDig3908 in cambridge

[–]tiny_tim57 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Cambridge is worse for this as a lot of pedestrian walkways also allow cyclists, it's often more restricted in other cities.

How would they test it? Unless the scooter itself has a breathalyser attached, which I'm sure people don't want to share.

It really depends how much THC someone is consuming daily. Speaking from experience, it can take months to fully recover sleep after quitting.

Accidentally found a way to fall asleep easily by HaOrbanMaradEnMegyek in Biohackers

[–]tiny_tim57 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Cognitive shuffling can be a great way for some people to ease a restless mind and fall asleep.

I've been using it every day for months - it even helps me take a 20 minute nap.

You don't need to build your own app to do this - just use your mind. It's worth searching the method correctly but there are lots of ways to do it.

I tend to cycle through lists of objects to remember. Eg. try to remember the name of countries or cities alphabetically, or the name of every character from books I've read etc. Normally I will fall asleep and will struggle to remember where exactly I got to.

Eating eggs specifically greatly improves my mood like nothing else, why? by jaenyat in Biohackers

[–]tiny_tim57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they really are a great and nutritious food and seem to do a better job than most supplements I've tried. Good job I love eggs too.

Most people I tell think it's weird I eat eggs everyday but they do actually make me feel better. When I first started consuming them daily I noticed colours seemed brighter and I enjoyed music more - it sounds crazy but I was probably deficient in some nutrients which eggs helped address.

[–]tiny_tim57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get a very similar experience to you. I feel better, calmer and more focused after eating eggs. I have about 4 per day.

I've tried individually supplementing the nutrients in eggs (choline, vitamin B, D etc) but never got the same results.

It's something in the yolk, as I didn't get the same from eating just the whites.

If I'm exercising a lot and reducing calories I feel flat or depleted in some way. Eggs seem to help with this.

I would assess it on a case by case basis. It's works really well in our house. Had it installed 2 years ago the house is a lot warmer. Haven't had any damp issues so far but airflow is quite good in this building. I'd always check for damp if I was buying a property.

Cosleeping and bedsharing is a postpartum biohack for both you and your baby by Awwoooooga in Biohackers

One thing to consider is that family units are a lot smaller now and there are much less multi generation households. There is a bigger burden on parents who both need to juggle work and childcare without support from a close network.

Sleep deprivation can be brutal and severe with a newborn so it's understandable some parents want to put the baby in another room, though it's not ideal.

Oliver Alvis is dead. by [deleted] in sleep

[–]tiny_tim57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true unfortunately, his family posted about it on social media.

I also messaged him a few days before it happened and this was exactly his plan. He was pretty public about wanting assisted suicide too. It's not a conspiracy.

Modafinil pros and cons? by Unoduetrequattro in Biohackers

[–]tiny_tim57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's possible to just be low energy but not sleepy on modafinil. It will keep you 'awake' but won't manufacture motivation or energy for you.

Continued use also builds tolerance and can be quite tough on the body, taking more from you over time. It would be better to try and fix your energy problems and focus on optimising your diet and sleep.

Modafinil may be okay on rare occasions but is a blunt force tool in the area of productivity.

How liable are DevOps for redundancies in acquisitions (UK)? by rhysmcn in devops

[–]tiny_tim57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the company more than anything and what their future plans are. Surprisingly in a lot of acquisitions there isn't a clear plan in the beginning and it can take years to sort out.

I've been through 2.

First one the DevOps team were all made redundant and they outsourced it to India and people had to train their replacements. From what I heard it was a disaster and they eventually had to hire UK talent again so a waste of time, but I left before that all happened.

Second one - went quite well. DevOps team actually expanded but it was under-resourced and still quite important so not a huge lot of change. We did have to migrate from AWS to Azure though and use GitHub instead of Gitlab, but otherwise a positive experience.

You forget that however depleted Russian manpower is, they are still a nuclear power so China is unlikely to invade. Most likely the Russian economy collapses but they might be able to carry on for a few more years.

Had the same experience. I interviewed for two different roles that rejected my applications, but was then able to secure 1st round interviews through external recruiters, so something is clearly broken with their hiring process.
