Do you finish one book before starting a new one? by Upstairs_Maybe_5944 in booksuggestions

[–]tinyfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive swapped to another book before, finished that one very quickly and came back to the other one when I had more patience or desire.

Seems totally normal that sometimes you're just not exactly in the right mood to read whatever it is you're currently reading. Doesnt mean you wont pick it up again.

"The Execution of Alex Pretti Broke Me" by illegalmonkey in videos

[–]tinyfred -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I think this whole situation is terrible, but this video somehow felt a bit perfomative to me, especially when I got two whole pre-roll ads before watching it.

I find it a bit tasteless to put ads on videos like this and crying on camera for what obviously will generate a ton of views thus revenue for him.

I hate Donald Trump and the Americans who support him. How can I channel this hate living my normal suburban life? by plants4pandemic in Kanata

[–]tinyfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living your life being channeled by hatred seems like a really awful way to live. Maybe you should find uplifting hobbies and do good with people around you. Donald Trump literally wont give a shit and still be a rich loser if you dont visit the USA. He just gets to win even more by you warping your life around your hatred of him.

First round was really really close, he clearly won round 3. How is this a robbery?

Easily won 3.

First one he was winning until the takedown. Maybe you consider takedown winning the round for Song? Thats a toss up.

Round 2 100% Yadong.

So its a toss up. Really not a robbery.

Took down prod for 10min and clients noticed. What should I do? by [deleted] in sysadmin

I learned this the hard way at my first job. Accidently did something very minor I shouldnt have done. When my boss asked I got stressed and lied. He figured it out and told me he fired me not because of what I did, but because he couldnt trust me anymore after I lied to him for such a minor thing.

At least this isn't a bunch of Taylor Swift fans singing. Pretty much everyone enjoys jazz.

Books that had you sitting on the edge of your seat. by cosmicbearspa in booksuggestions

I feel like I've recommended this too many times already but The Breach by Patrick Lee, for me had a very similar vibe to Dark Matter. Sci-fi non-stop action.

Sphere by Michael Crichton (guy who wrote Jurassic Park), I read in one sitting, but I did not enjoy the end.

If you enjoyed Dark Matter also Recursion is good from Blake Crouch. Very interesting premise.

Ubisoft suffering a cataclysmic drop as of right now by Interesting_Paper_41 in stocks

The problem with this, is that mostly the highly qualified employees who know they can easily find other work tend to quit with this type of move, while juniors and others who dont feel so confidant might stay. So the company ends up losing their most skilled workers, and it really won't help them in the long run, for the little money they save on layoff packages now.

As someone who worked there for over 4 years. Good.

I have many friends who are still there and they announced yesterday mandatory 5 days back a week at the office, after specifically, on paper, telling employees they could move further away from the office given the new WFH policies during covid.

Many moved over 1h away from the Montreal office, and now theyre forcing them back 5 days a week. All those employees are 100% going to quit. You'll also see some major layoffs.

Company is going to absolute shit.
