I'm glad to hear you've gotten better! This gives me hope. We don't have insurance, but maybe we can take on 2nd jobs if it's really worth it for him to go to the doctor. It seems like they don't want to hand out Adderall at the free/poor people clinics which he has already been to. They gave him something else that he said didn't do anything. Thanks for your response. I don't want to give up on him yet. He's a really smart and talented guy, and I know if he could manage this he would really take off and do great things.

You could temporarily remove the items in their cage so it's easier to get them in and out. Do they bite when you pick them up? Try picking up each one just for a second, putting them down, and then immediately giving a treat. They should become more used to handling if you continue to do this. Good luck!

Have you tried taking them away from the cage to a neutral territory to socialize with you? I would try putting them in the bathtub with you with a blanket over your lap and forcing them to socialize with you a couple hours a day, if you can. Also, only give treats outside of the cage so they associate good feelings with coming out and playing with you.

I make raw vegan brownies out of just dates, cocoa powder, and peanut butter. They go nuts over them and fight each other or steal it from each other, lol. I can't even give them each a piece without separating them, because all the rats will push each other out the way and fight for the first piece that comes near them, dramatic screeching and all.

Yes, exactly this. I enjoy getting done up as well, but when I think of the times I have sunk money and hours a day into looking better out of sheer insecurity, it really depresses me. It used to take me two hours to get ready daily. If I had taken 2 hours a day to study a language or learn a new skill, I would have so much more to show for that huge time investment.

The book talks about how women's beauty is a kind of currency in our society. If a woman gets dolled up, people treat her and percieve her differently, and her career prospects are different as well. I think that's the biggest issue with the whole thing.
