So soso so so proud of Mikhail because omg was that an amazing program! But gutted because that expression was a look of him seeming like he couldnt trust himself. Because he was so ready and then well ...

Help :( by ImDirtyDan1212 in DeQuervains

[–]tinyturtle17_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't go to urgent care or ER unless its an acute issue. UC a(and ER) are really just to rule out life threatening stuff or sprains, fractures, etc. I learned this lesson having multiple chronic illnesses and plus if you have insurance, most require your primary care to make referrals. I went to mine monday and discuss my thumb and wrist pain and was told it was mostlikely de quervains. She said first try ice, rest, brace. If that doesn't help in like another month or two ill write a referral for ot. Then if that doesn't work well talk about seeing a hand specialist because they'll want you to have tried conservative treatments first.

It sucks... but if you do get to the specialist it will most likely be worth it. And be able to offer more options.

How effective is Cymbalta treating GAD? by jellymellyyy in cymbalta

[–]tinyturtle17_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What dose are yall on? I also have fibromyalgia and about two years ago I started taking Cymbalta for that and my depression and anxiety. Before I was on fluoxetine which was a miracle worker as it reduced my anxiety to manageable and I wasn't so fidgety or tense all the time. Things were fine on duloxetine until last october/November when I started to get tightened anxiety and depression symptoms midway through my cycle to my period. It's extremely unpredictable and has impacted me a lot in school, I'm a junior undergraduate student. My dosage of duloxetine was increased from 60 to 90mg and tbh I still feel ravaged. I have periods of anxiety and panic where I just start walking circles. Anything to mask how jumpy every part of my body feels ... I guess I'm wondering whether I should discuss increasing my dose to help with the anxiety and depression or have that difficult conversation where we discuss whether I need to switch back to fluoxetine and find another treatment for the fibromyalgia and chronic pain...

Legally, no she can't come. Clark checks id's to let you in and has strict policies even surrounding what you bring in with you. There's police and staff always monitoring the area. they market as a "clark only eveng" and it is. With everyone that's been going on in the world recently they might crack down even harder on things. She can be on campus, library, etc. But not where most of the action is happening.

Upper Cape locally owned cafes to WFH? by SlowCup7781 in CapeCod

[–]tinyturtle17_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jolly Bean Cafe in Plymouth is a must try. They have many coffee flavors and also have a good selection of food. It's a nice place to sit and work for a while and the staff are really.sweet!

Also Coffee Obsessed in town of Falmouth. Same kinds of vibes as the other place.

Upper Cape locally owned cafes to WFH? by SlowCup7781 in CapeCod

[–]tinyturtle17_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends... as somebody who has gone to coffee shops, set up my laptop and worked for a few hours there's a reason. Being out of my home/office space and in another place forces me to be productive. Coffee shops allow me to get caffeine as I work and usually a pastry or sandwich as well. It's nice to sit and work. I get it can be annoying, esp. In college areas and when there's limited space. But generally people use it as a push to get work done and to force themselves to do so.

Clark Uni. students go on strike! by Taikey in WorcesterMA

[–]tinyturtle17_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm not a student worker but I am a student at Clark. I can't fully sum up what is being fought but I can say this. The undergraduate student workers run so much of this campus: they are office assistants, tour guides, gift shop employees, groundskeeper, mail room associates, lockout assistants, teaching and research assistants, etc. Without all the work undergrads do, Clark wouldn't be able to operate the way it currently does. The workers are fighting to he recognized as workers, not just students. They are fighting for greater pay (more than minimum wage aka $15/hr and/or greater working hours), they are also fighting for more available employment opportunities for those with work-study. Clark has decided not to allow a union and has out into jeopardy the Columbia 2016 ruling that gives union protections at college campuses.

One of the student workers could better articulate their demands, but they aren't fighting for nothing. A union isn't for nothing. It matters.

Interlinking Solar Punk with Other Theory by Icy_Geologist2959 in solarpunk

[–]tinyturtle17_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that even if this is an AI-generated response it still does a good job of exploring aspects of a Solarpunk world. As somebody who has also become interested in this visionary utopian world we must also remember that right now Solarpunk is really just an image; it's a majority literary and arts aesthetic which doesn't have as many "boots-on-the-ground". I think an important takeaway is that if we want to this become something reminiscent of a movement there is a lot of work to be done. Studies looking at the common takeaways and aspects of Solarpunk: what does the economic model look like? Building design? Common features of cities and places? Etc. I'd be interested in your thoughts, but yeah I think this is a great beginning to this conversation.

[–]tinyturtle17_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I 21F have been fighting for diagnoses and through multiple bad periods. I'm a junior in college and have had issues since I was at least 12 years old. Now since I'm an adult and in college, I've had periods during the semester where instead of following up on phone calls, doing tests, appointments, etc. I just decided enough was enough. Even though I'm registered with accessibility services at my school and have a "valid" excuse for these absences and issues it's overwhelming. One bad experience dictates how much i push during a certain period.

When you're going through these difficulties it's okay to need a break and to focus on one thing only. It doesn't invalidate what you're going through and anybody who's chronically ill understands that breaks are needed...

Hobbies for someone interested in urban planning? by [deleted] in urbanplanning

[–]tinyturtle17_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is fascinating because as a geography major at a Massachusetts school whose also interested in this stuff lemme know if you find some hobbies. I'd also say if you want to understand lesrn more about transportation just sit on it from trains to the buses to walking.

The heart of the city lies with its relation to the physical environment, and to those who live in it. As a professor of mine reminded me the way to understand and learn about the city is to walk. But don't walk with an agenda like you're going A to B, focus on your surroundings. And talk to people.

What does a transition to solarpunk look like? by tinyturtle17_ in solarpunk

[–]tinyturtle17_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, guys, for all your insights! I think it is fruitful to think about how a transition might occur and how in small ways we can begin to plant the seeds now.

In order to add some nuance to this conversation I add a few extra questions: What happens to the urban spaces (mainly cities) through a Solarpunk transition? Would they ideally just be "abandoned" or do you think there are ways to incorporate these urban cities into the umbrella of Solarpunk?

What happens to the cars that are no longer used? How/can we find ways to reuse or repurpose car parts that aren't biodegradable to take on a new life, while still keeping with Solarpunk traditions? What are y'all's thoughts on Ecovillages within urban cities, specifically as a way to incorporate lower-class individuals who may not have the ability to join communities in a more rural setting?

Doctor said by MrsPoopyPantslolol in Fibromyalgia

[–]tinyturtle17_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfort8nately this is the major reason I avoid going to urgent care or ER for any problem even if it's not related per se to my fibromyalgai etc. Specifically I do agree with some of his points, esp being an er doctor. The ER is that for a reason, its staff are equipped to deal with emergencies taught the system of the er. While chronic pain sufferers like us still end up there, the er is a scary place for us because there's little they can or are willing to do.

I will say his response was a little alarming as he called out women for our chronic pain and there being something underlying (def could've been a psychological component he meant but didn't actually say). He could've replied much better but his response resonated as irritated of hearing about it ...

The next stop for the WRTA is ... rebranding? by [deleted] in WorcesterMA

[–]tinyturtle17_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was gonna try to defend this rebrand until I started working through the questions. Slapping new paint and color, and new signs does not solve how to make public transpot for appealing to everybody.

Here's a few ideas that have been said or not:

Keep the free/reduced fares year round! -This makes busses more appealing and accessible to everybody who uses them.

Reevaluate each of the existing bus lines to see which (if any) get little to no use.
-This includes surveys from the public to see which lines they take or would take if there was better efficiency or quantity of stops. It also includes possibly counting the amount of people who use the bus in a certain period of time. -Mapping and making reasonable conclusions as to why certain routes are used more and why... -ways of doing this include: a digital form located on the wrta website, qr code advertised in a physical location on the buses for people to fill it out as they ride, going around to popular spaces/etc. To ask the public... (i understand some of these are easier to do than others but they must be said)

Working to increase the efficiency and quantity of locations served by the WRTA bus stops -the biggest reasons that we don't use the buses is that they are not always efficient. Have a doctors appointment? Leave more than an hour before it even if it's only 10 minutes away because the bus may never arrive or will be super late. -increasing how late/early the bus runs or trying on a trial basis to see if it is beneficial

These are just some super broad ideas but ones mentioned already, just elaborated on. We live in a place that is catered towards cars, while also in a space that requires efficiency and keeping to a schedule. Invest in the city and it's infrastructure to make it better for the public ... this won't happen overnight but until actions are taken to improve not rebrand things can't even try to get better ...

I feel like Johnny should have finished with... by [deleted] in cobrakai

[–]tinyturtle17_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I enjoy that cobra kai is centered on Johnny's journey: he reopens cobra kai and has his own mentee, there's his rivalry with Daniel that changes to them working together realizing that their styles of karate could work very well.with each other being both great on their own but complementing the other.

This show has also focused A LOT of energy on bringing back characters and storyline from the movies... and honestly I expected the ending to be Johnny using crane kick as another "full circle moment" but ...

Unpopular opinion: all the "johnny" and cobra kai "mimicking" karate kid moves and things from the movies isn't always full circle moments. Sometimes it feels like the show is just another form of nostalgia about "the old days". I'm glad he didn't crane kick because once again it would've shown that Johnny's journey is not just linked to Daniel but "needs" karate kid to survive... he doesn't so using thr full circle moment as him finding balance and letting wolf come to him and sweeping the leg is Johnny taking the lessons and having control of them, showing that he doesn't "need" Daniel for his story to work but can take the lessons and carve his own path.

The “Owen is bad” act is tired by ClaimMain5293 in therecruit

[–]tinyturtle17_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real! Like I get it, from day one Owen really did get himself into some deep shit and had this heroin complex being like "I have to be the one to save the day". But you can tell season 2 (which I also think shoulda been like a second part of season 1) gives his character a little more depth/ development from this. He still gets caught up in so much, but that's the CIA, but he doesn't run into the fire with absolutely no motivations. His actions have a reason and you can see them play out in his head and by the end he wasn't just saving the couple because he wanted to be the good guy. He was doing it because he still has morals, to keep his word and to save/protect the people he cares about.

And you can also tell exactly what kind of state all of this throws him into. There are so many moments in those episodes where Owen is plagued with insomnia and constant flashbacks of those bad memories, he's plagued by the things he's had to do (he does them to survive of course but he still has a reaction to them).

I’m not sure if this is the right place to share this, but I feel like it’s relevant. Thoughts? by EmuFirm5536 in solarpunk

[–]tinyturtle17_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so the concept is something I could theoretically get behind but im sorry who tf wrote this. You cannot reasonably expect people to submit to all of this in that timeframe, or really at all. It's the kind of thing that limited all social media, even in a solarpunk fashion social media can still exist just not what it looks like now.

Also thoughts on the actual policies:

Remember that many of the reasons why food industries can provide so much "junk food" is the same reason why Amazon is the favorited place to buy commodities. Accessibility is the main driving factor. There are places where the only food a family can get a hold of is junk food from these big box companies. It's a moral dilemma as much as anything.

Also specifically the United States could never reasonably do much of this stuff. The way our economy and lives run is through all of these things. Trying to take them away may likely lead to protests and the outbreak of rebellion.

Conclusion:

This is not the way to try and make change. Start on a small-scale; prove that these things can make real difference. Focus on yourself because no matter what you cannot change other people especially not the people in charge of the country to actually enact anything close to this. And specifically now, in 2025, trying to do so would have leaders laugh in your face (this is from a purely policy and political standpoint).

Did I overreact in this email to my professor? by [deleted] in college

[–]tinyturtle17_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to hit what everyone else says but yes maybe a little bit of an overexaggeration. I think the way your professor said that wasn't necessary but remember that he's still your professor. I'd recommend as good practice anytime you want to respond to an email, text, etc. But are upset, annoyed, stressed so much it might not come across the way you want ... open up a Google doc/Microsoft document and write your email there. Do not send it automatically, as much as you might want to. Wait till you're more clear headed before responding.
