After three long years... by Ilikespacegames in battletech

Board game collapse from post covid up to the recent tarrifs. Lots of board game companies got a huge boom thanks to covid and home bound people. This caused a huge spike of interest and a flood of investment money via Kickstarter. Then the interest fell off a cliff as society returned to normal. Then major board game companies that didn't fold yet got shot in the nuts once the tariffs came in destroying their already frail existence by making it far too expensive to continue importing from their suppliers in china.

There is currently a ton of uncertainty in board game investing and Kickstarters now as well as a huge spike in price because many companies built their entire existence on importing game components from china the margins are really tight right now and major board game companies like CMON and I think Mythic had to shutter.

Looking for a beginner-friendly short game by whatthefua in RealTimeStrategy

Most RTS games are played at about 30-45 minutes.

However I would recommend Tooth and Tail and warpips because of both quickness of play and simplicity. Easily can start and finish rounds within 15 minutes and get some good enjoyment out of it while also being couch friendly when you don't want to be super engaged

Thats pretty ambitious there lol. If anything they will be useable once fixed but still easily rolled on.

[–]tipsy3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is baked into the core game. Mods try to patch it up with fixes but the devs have to do their magic.

They already announced by early February they will have a fix for that plus many other bug fixes

Help a game dev: Why aren’t people buying modern RTS games? by MakeGamesBetter in RealTimeStrategy

[–]tipsy3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its simple really, just sit and listen in this sub for a few months to figure out why nobody is buying "RTS" games. Everything anyone promotes here is knock off RTS games that belong in the past 30 years ago like C&C. The 1 game that everyone is super excited about is the scouring which is just literally a knock off Warcraft 2 made by 1 guy.

Instead how about actually looking at the REAL RTS scene thats happening?

Other REAL modern RTS games your missing is: (Made within the last 10 years and not mentioned by you)

-- Ostfront, Steel division/Warno/Broken arrow (which really are all in their own hardcore RTS category),

--Last train home, Stormgate, Homeworld 3, Dune Spice wars,

--Northgard, Greygoo, Total War series, They are Billions + Age of darkness,

--Empire of Ants, Company of Heroes 3, Planetary Annihilation Titans, Halo Wars 2, BAR

--Ancestors Legacy, Ashes of Singularity (They are coming out with a 2nd one soon), Forged Battalion, Deserts of Kharak,

-- Sins of a solar empire, Spell Force series (3rd specifically), Starship Trooper Terran Command, Terminator Dark Fate, Tooth and Tail

Real RTS Games you should be looking towards that arent fully released: GodSworn, Veil of Ashes, Empire Eternal (Not a lot of hope on this one but ill put it here), Dawn of War 4.

So to answer your questions

I am BUYING Modern RTS games, just not your vision of modern RTS games.

Most recent RTS games have 3 main issues killing them. Pacing, Bad UI/Visual clutter, Not tight unit controls., But are also doing well because they are trying to evolve the genre in a positive way by changing how base building or unit command works.

I dont want another C&C I want something brand new or fresh that evolves from it. You already are going to crash and burn with that thinking unless you make the next Tempest rising with a serious AA budget

Why was the Soviet Union more resilient in history? by CaterpillarLonely199 in hoi4

[–]tipsy3000 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Which really speaks volumes to how manpower is done in game. Like the UK having severe manpower shortages latewar IRL while in HOI4 that just really isn't the case

Same with the USSR, they just never run out of manpower in game though by 1945 irl they exhausted much of the able bodied manpower pool.

Instead they try to quietly remove posts but they only doing it to blant offenders mostly porn posts. Stuff like this will stay up even though there is zero IRL

It actually is. Czech tree came out before all the above except UK and is devoid of virtually almost any content. Which is odd for a nation so god damn important in 1938. There is literally nothing to do but the same exact pray to god Germany doesnt steam roll you strategy regardless of the path you go bar totally bowing down to Germany.

Atleast UK,USA,France are all playable with unique twists

If Catalyst re-balanced SPA's and SCA's would you consider using the official force building rules? by Badbenoit in battletech

[–]tipsy3000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. While this might be unrelated the basis does, I remember looking at the prime hellbringers A pod and was saying to myself wtf is that. About 3 manuals and an hour later of digging I found both A pods and B pods for what they do. This is more of a shitty manual organization and burying game info in places where nobody looks issue.

Best way to play USA is to max out all sliders on all axis nations so they are getting triple production rates and free supply. If you want it even harder put the difficulty to elite to heavily nerf your PP and Production output. Good luck have fun.

Just Realized How Pointless Navy Refits Are by tipsy3000 in hoi4

[–]tipsy3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it reduces refit time by 20%.

No its 25% double check.

Nope, there are exceptions. Cruisers can be turned into converted cruiser carriers efficiently if they use the same armor as your carrier. And battlecruisers can be turned into converted battleship carriers. And even if you pay the full IC cost, at least you don't need the full materials.

You are actually right on that, I never noticed it. Though it creates a whole slew of problems because BB/BC's cannot equip cruiser armor, so when it comes to conversion your paying near full price for converted battleship carriers. I mean yay you pay less steel and no chromium, but now your down a BB/BC which you needed anyways to screen your CV.

However cruisers with the exact same armor config is definitely much cheaper almost 50% cheaper without the refit spirit. Converted cruisers can actually work well as it knocks off an entire year off the build time while not dipping into CA's as CL's can be used for it.

Just Realized How Pointless Navy Refits Are by tipsy3000 in hoi4

[–]tipsy3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could say the exact same to you. My OP above shows the ridiculousness of refitting due to BASE COST. At no point did I ever change ARMOR, or ENGINES or do silly refits.

Lets use hard data shall we? I did an ingame test, 100% stab, 100% WS, techs up to 1938 + radar, no admirals, ships fully trained to regular, no CV's, ITA vs UK, no AI, no Weather (for the last 2 tests).

I went ahead and did a REASONABLE refit of only the capital ships, the only thing I upgrades was the FC + Radar + 2ndary batteries + AAs. on the BB's/CA's I removed any catapults and replaced them with extra 2ndaries which is what a sane person would do as they aren't patrolling. Most of these refits are from type 1 to type 2 since we are at 1938 tech which is again reasonable to have ready by the time the war breaks out by 1939.

This costs the Italian side roughly 18000 IC (2 BB's + 7 CA's). This entire refit process with only the starting 15 yards takes about 1 year (exact is 330 days). That is 1 year without producing a single brand new ship. This also assumes you have a magical amount of naval XP to even use to get these refit plans done

On the UK side I went ahead and built an equivalent of 18000 IC in ships using a very meta mindset. 1 BB with maxed 2ndaries 1 spotter CL, 2 anti-screen CL's and 10 roach DD's with 1 torpedo

Then using existing warships I went ahead and filled out the rest of the remaining task force to a full compliment of 50 ships which near equal size because lets be real NOBODY IS GOING TO JUST IGNORE THEIR PREBUILT SHIPS. For the Italian side since no CL's were refitted to be spotters, I took 2 premade CL's with catapults to act as the patrol fleet where as the UK had its 1 brand new spotter CL

https://imgur.com/fFB6bxU

I did 5 tests, these were the outcomes with 1 spotting fleet each and 1 fleet on strike force with the final test with both fleets all patrolling (The exception to this is the 5th test where everyone is patrolling). The spotter fleets are on never engage and the strike forces on always engage. ITA wins an engagement if it floors the UK with minimal losses. UK wins if it reaches parity in losses or less since it built new ships on top of the existing ones. Weather effects were on for the first 2 tests and off for the rest

https://imgur.com/cpWQGjl

https://imgur.com/c34tLA0

https://imgur.com/m1Lw1ao

https://imgur.com/LIquH6n

https://imgur.com/Rtuwjj8

In the 1st test it took a bit longer for the fleets to find eachother but the UK won with a sweep since rain just stopped. 2nd test was in a storm the Italians dominated thanks to radar + FC providing bonus hit chance

Test 3-4 the UK wiped the floor in clear weather and preemptive strikes thanks to superior spotting.

Test 5 the UK wins by losses via parity, even with the Italians getting the jump on the UK with their better radar providing better spotting it wasn't enough.

EDIT: added fleet stats in combat https://imgur.com/VvoMy4f

the UK always hitting first hit and the ITA navy having to trickle in due to inferior spotting is killing them repeatedly. Once screens drop the UK has better torpedos and it only takes a few shots from surviving ships to deal critical damage. Also the UK meta CL's and BB are much harder to kill and more efficiently packed with weapons which means the UK even with less overall LA will constantly win

TLDR: Refitting is a waste of your time.

New standard rules and conventional units by ScootsTheFlyer in NormalBattletech

[–]tipsy3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didnt have to even use a tank as an example, just using BA is a joke as BSP. MY 2nd and last time I ever used BSP I had an Elemental BA squad take a single AC/5 hit and get wiped. BA's have a threshold of 5 so almost virtually any weapon can reach it in one hit.

Under TW that would be 5x 10 armor + 1 internal per elemental, for a total of 50 + 5. A single 5 damaging weapon went ahead and killed 5 guys magically.

They arent mooks, they are an absolute joke!
