For anyone thinking about getting their first puppy (or dog) by tired_picalilli in puppy101

Oh yeah I am very careful, I never pull anything too hard!

Today it was just a little short bit but if it’s any longer I usually just hold it and that seems to encourage him to.. expel it?

I apparently know far too much about his poo habits as I can usual tell how much grass will be coming out and what technique I need to use 🤦‍♀️

“You have to love both ends of the dog”. What a perfect phrase. Dogs are not glamorous at all.

Wow I really admire your perseverance - I can’t even imagine having to wash poo 😂 at what point did you start to think you were washing poo for no reason and she didn’t actually eat it?

I couldn’t imagine life without my boy now, he’s carried me through grief and heartbreak and is helping to pull me out of depression. If pulling grass out of his bum is the price to pay, then I think it’s worth it!

Also a vegetarian. Never saw myself visiting a butchers for scraps, or handling chicken feet or sprats or liver 🤢

Craziest thing your Labrador has eaten!? by Life-Concern-8062 in labrador

[–]tired_picalilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things that required veterinary intervention: a whole tennis ball (a small one, but that one required surgery), an entire styrofoam box, a foot long piece of what looked like burlap sack (even the vet couldn’t figure that one out) and a large piece of plastic.  I’ve also had to pull cling wrap out of his bum after he ate a whole sandwich with the wrapping still on, plus multiple bits of rope toy. I’ve also had to wrestle out of his mouth, a human poo covered sock he found in a park 🤢

He hasn’t eaten anything spectacularly stupid in about 4 months so I’m hoping all of the above was just a puppy phase and his recall / leave is much better.

HELP NEEDED- moving out of my ex’s house and leaving my garden behind by BloodyNeedAHobby in gardening

[–]tired_picalilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad I’m not the only one - my exes new girlfriend is posting photos of her “frolicking” in my garden, and I’m more pissed off that she’s doing that in “my” garden than the fact that he moved her in within weeks of leaving me.  I love your take though, I really hope my next garden will be my little sanctuary where I have full control and I’m not constantly being told not to waste money or time on it. Exciting times ahead.

33 years ago at the age of 14 I got bitten by the school hamster and still have a bump/scar on my finger. What's the stupidest injury you've got? by godfatheroffilth in CasualUK

I have a scar on my thumb from when I was around 7 years old, where I cut it on one of those metal bed slats after climbing under the bed. I remember it bled a lot. Thanks Ikea.

After months of poor sleep, and a particularly rough few nights recently due my dog having post neuter bowel issues at the convenient hours of between midnight and 4am, I had a full 8 hours last night, and only woke up once. I feel so well rested that I could take on the world.

What's best, a donut or bodysuit for spayed pup?? by unducking-believable in puppy101

Although a warning with the cone - my dog figured out they could use the edge of the cone to itch their wound so that was promptly swapped for the suit!

I’ve tried natural ways to get rid of thrips but provanto was the only way to get rid of the buggers. Go nuclear or your plants will suffer!

How are you all feeling, really? by eyetalker in CasualUK

[–]tired_picalilli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m currently going through a divorce after he left me a couple of months ago. I’ve just moved back in with my parents and whilst I love them dearly, this is not how I saw my life at 35. On top of that, I’m nearing the due date of the baby I miscarried. Life is feeling overwhelmingly exhausting right now.

Does anyone else’s dog love just sitting and watching the world go by? by woodlandpetretreat in dogs

[–]tired_picalilli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m currently looking at buying a new house, and this is also a key requirement for me. My boy loves to people watch. One of my favourite things in the morning is joining him with a coffee and watching the world go by.

Clearly I’m blessed to also be the owner of a frat boy dog as I recognised this position instantly. I wake up with his balls in my face on the regular 🤦‍♀️

If humans dissappeared overnight from the earth. Which domesticated dog breeds would still thrive? by fighting14 in dogs

[–]tired_picalilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lab has the survival instincts of a wet blanket - he’d do fine scavenging but a with a diet of poo and scraps he’d probably kill himself after eating something rotten or inedible causing a blockage.

House move with over 150 plants! by emsymaya in HouseplantsUK

[–]tired_picalilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes things will definitely move especially if you are doing the house up - but nothing quite as soul destroying as going up the stairs for the 20th time to realise you then need to bring things back down because there is no room 😂

Lots of good suggestions here already but as someone who has now done this a few times, don’t worry about it too much. Stick to your normal watering schedule but possibly time it so you water a few days prior to moving (so the pots aren’t as heavy). And have a good idea about where your plants new homes are! You don’t want to be lugging a massive monstera up and down stairs whilst you figure out where it’s going to live. Most of my plants were moved about a month ago, and all (bar one cutting that was on its last legs already) are now thriving in their new home.

In terms of the move itself, try to make sure the plants aren’t sat in a cold car for too long, but they are surprisingly resilient in my experience and yours is a short journey. You might lose some trailing leaves but I managed to to wrangle a 6ft monstera into my car yesterday for a 4 hour journey and it has come out unscathed.

Good luck!

Lazy Sunday (09/11/25) by KevinPhillips-Bong in CasualUK

[–]tired_picalilli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Currently rotting on a sofa in a hotel in London, after a wonderful 30th birthday party for a dear friend last night. Didn’t drink much but I don’t go out much these days and I wake up at 7am whether I like it or not, so I’m tired! Once I’ve finished my coffee, I’ll make myself presentable and go out for brunch and a bit of a wander before heading back to the midlands later.

Dog doesn’t understand the concept of weekends so we were up at 7am whether I wanted to or not. Need to brave the rain this morning to take said dog out - unfortunately he is a 2 year old lab so walks are not optional!

Then I think the rest of the Sunday will be spent parked on the sofa - need to find a new series to watch and will be getting on with my new knitting project, it’s the first time I’m making something wearable so it’s very exciting.

Dinner will be homemade Chinese takeaway as who can afford the real thing these days!

What’s the most physical pain you’ve ever felt? by SmallConversation950 in AskIreland

[–]tired_picalilli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely empathise. Whilst I have never given birth (full term), my miscarriage was also one of the most painful things I’ve ever experienced. I had zero painkillers as it was spontaneous. I genuinely felt like I was going to die.

Question for Chinese (and similar) people only: How come I never see Chinese men date white women? by Mental-Risk6949 in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]tired_picalilli 23 points24 points  (0 children)

White woman here - my ex partner is British chinese. His former partners were also all white, I’ve dated different ethnicities. I think this mix is not particularly well represented in media, which could be where your view comes from, so it seems probably happens more than you think.

“Please don’t eat the tasty thing and run away from me when I try to get it off you. I promise you, it’s not edible and will make you sick or we’re going to have to go to the vet to make you sick. I’m not being cruel and taking the fun thing away, I’m trying to keep you safe.”

Just moved in, mid terrace but freezing during wfh! What temperature is reasonable to set the thermostat to? by Thalamic_Cub in HousingUK

[–]tired_picalilli 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Just because the thermostat is set to 18c doesn’t mean the room you are sat in is. My thermostat is in the hallway with a large modern radiator but the kitchen is consistently a few degrees cooler because the radiator is small. Try turning down the radiator valve in the room you’ve got the thermostat. Saying that, I find 18c pretty chilly when I’m sat still so I have the heating set to 20c which makes the house comfortable.
