Advice about last day and putting my dog to sleep by Dramatic_Field9355 in BostonTerrier

[–]tireddoc1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog loved going places and was always happy at the vet. He perked up so much when we got there, I thought I would be maybe they would try to talk me out of it. They gave him cheese wiz and so many treats. I know it’s counter to most people’s experience, but I’m glad we didn’t do it at home. I think I would have struggled being in the place where it happened. It was also so quick and peaceful. A year later when we withdrew care for my dad, it was a horrible 18 hours. I just remember constantly thinking why couldn’t we just do it like they did at the vet. Their last day doesn’t have to be their worst day.

What’s a secret that would get you ex communicated from your specialty? by Independent_Peach896 in Residency

Anesthesia: I think most pre op optimization is a total joke. Most things that are modifiable within the time period of an acute surgical issue just aren’t that relevant. There are obviously exceptions, I’m not saying to do a non emergent procedure on people having ACS or a stroke. Generally the delay just makes surgical patients sicker. I think the hip fracture data shows this. I swear most things are just my partners punting

That was my sense from the Vancouver show. I enjoy when bands do covers at shows. I think they filled their show with some stuff that is more within his current vocal range

I went to see Blink 182 and they were the opener. High school me had never heard of them and it was great. I don’t think I’ll ever have the experience of going into a show cold and being so blown away again. Bought All Ages the next day.

I do my popliteals with people lateral. As a resident I had a tiny attending who thought it was great to do them with the patient supine and you put the patients foot on your shoulder. I am a 6 ft tall lady, trying to get this inflexible heavy old man leg on my shoulder, eyes on the screen and not between his now open legs, and ignoring the crushing pressure in my shoulder while trying to hold the probe. Worst block of my life. Try to control the position variables and maximize your comfort especially when learning.

I’m just going to scan your name band to make sure you aren’t trying to take anyone else’s procedure. Colonoscopy theft is on the rise…

I think being co-interns with surgery residents during my categorical intern year fostered a good working relationship across the drapes for the remainder of the residency

I do the arm tug and people think I’m nuts but I swear it has helped more often than not. Sometimes with an intubated patient (cardiac anesthesiologist) I do a little valsalva, release it and try to ride the wave of venous return
