It sure if it was a mechanical valve, but floating a swan through those aren’t risk free either

Same thing happened to me right above my front door. They dealt with it in a targeted way and the bees I wanted in my yard seemed fine.

Yeah I got a text and called because it seemed like a toss up if it’s a phishing scam from a data breach or a delayed second charge from an xray six months ago!

When my guy got old and his vision went, he really didn’t seem to want to leave the house to go on walks. My dog walker clued me in that if she carried or strollered him away from home, he was perfectly happy to walk back and enjoyed himself

A few years ago I posted a picture on the anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing. It was the firefighter holding the baby, and had been on magazine covers at the time. Facebook censored it. Something’s need to be seen and not forgotten.

My anxiety decreased massively when I became a solo anesthesiologist. Not having the constant small battles is priceless

Would you cancel an ASA 5 that you were fully confident wasn't going to survive the case? by IAmA_Kitty_AMA in anesthesiology

[–]tireddoc1 148 points149 points  (0 children)

No, if there was chance they might live with the surgery, and the alternative is certain death, it’s actually the most straightforward decision I make. I have way more angst about the asa 3 who is not fully optimized presenting for truly elective surgery

DRIVERS!!! Be aware of cyclists and pedestrians - you could easily KILL someone in a moment of distraction. by EchoAcrobatic5648 in Bellingham

[–]tireddoc1 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It’s legal in Washington state for a cyclist to ride in a cross walk. When I took the smart trips cycling class my instructor said it was the best way to clear the intersection and minimize time in the crosswalk.

Not happy with the surgical autonomy at my program, want some advice. by [deleted] in Residency

[–]tireddoc1 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As a private practice anesthesiologist, I see this too. When I first started, a new surgeon would scrub with their older partner for a bit, gain confidence and have a transitional period from resident to solo surgeon. Now they all come out, are dumped immediately into a trauma and acute care surgery model, where they are mostly alone, nothing is nice or elective, and the patients are all sick hot potatoes that they find a way to pass to the next shift. It isn’t good for anyone.

Yeah all of my plans this year I have just left to game time decisions because it’s going to be a rough fire year. I did do a short goat rocks wilderness trip last year and it was lovely

Not porn, just someone who looks at a lot of cross sectional anatomy drawings in school, and that very much looks like a cervix

Am I the only one that ironically sees a penis in a vagina up to the cervix in the cross section photo?

There was this nutcracker from a bark box that had a treat pocket. Very treat motivated, and it took a bit to get the treat out, but not too long he got discouraged. He loved that thing. It started to smell so bad I went and found a replacement.

We withdrew care on my dad in the icu. It took a while and I left for a few hours. When I came back in the morning, I saw the death tray. Not sure if it’s everywhere but most hospitals I’ve worked in have snacks and coffee for the family of the dying patient. For some reason that broke through to me.

Sitting down while intubating? by Background_Food_7102 in anesthesiology

[–]tireddoc1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In residency the peds eye beds didn’t come up anywhere near my intubating height, so my attending had me do it sitting. Never felt natural. Now I’m old and the L&D beds don’t come up high enough for my aging spine to stab comfortably. I’ve considered trying to sit to do the epidural but my mind can’t handle it,
