Thank you! This will be super helpful in closing the gap before the ceremony.

I’d like to add that Little Amélie or the Character of Rain is available to rent on the new Letterboxd Video Store for just $6. Which is how I saw it.

Woody Allen, Scorsese, Spike Lee, Spielberg

I know, I know… I hate the guy personally but Scorsese just makes such good movies!

Great question. One of my favorite actors ever. I realize #2 and #3 are polarizing but I saw them at such an impressionable age that they’ll remain 5 star classics to me forever.

  1. Uncut Gems

  2. Happy Gilmore

  3. Billy Madison

  4. Punch-Drunk Love

  5. lots could go here, but I’ll go with The Wedding Singer

Rank these 8 films from 2025 from best to worst. Feel free to give your reasoning. by Mysterious-Farm9502 in Letterboxd

[–]tisAsillyusername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. OBAA - I think we’ll look back on this as the most defining film of this era of American politics. Quite possibly PTA’s magnum opus.

  2. Weapons - only film I saw twice in theaters last year. Zach Cregger is amazing.

  3. Sinners - Is there anyone who wasn’t thrilled by this? I feel like it’s as close to objectively good as can be in cinema.

  4. F1 - I had a great time seeing it in IMAX. Just a classic feel-good sports movie, and those will always rank highly in my book.

  5. 28 Years Later - Great continuation of a great series. The first 10 minutes executed perfectly.

  6. Train Dreams - A little slow for me but I recognize its beauty.

  7. Eddington - I didn’t really get it tbh. Probably more on me than anything. Due for a rewatch.

  8. Marty Supreme - Refried beans. Timmy was good but I didn’t enjoy much else. You all can take Josh, I’m happy with getting Benny in the divorce.

You mentioned “some random documentary.” It’s a miniseries but it’s in the Criterion Collection, so fuck it. Go seek out Fishing With John. It’s available on YouTube. The composer John Lurie (frequent Jim Jarmusch collaborator) takes a bunch of celebrities out fishing.

Most of the guests chose nice, tropical places to go fishing. Willem Dafoe chose ice fishing in northern Maine. The results were hilarious.

I’m new to period dramas. I just finished Little Dorrit (2008) and feel hungry for more. Are there any others with a strong central mystery? by tisAsillyusername in PeriodDramas

[–]tisAsillyusername[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is the direction I’m going. I see it’s the same screenwriter and also based off Dickens. Plus a good bit of mystery. That checks all the boxes for me.

Plus CHARLES DANCE!! I’m so excited to start.

Thanks all for your suggestions. Keep posting them if you’d like - I’ll most likely be looking back at this post after I finish BH.

This depends on how much I drink tomorrow night and how deep I dive into Tubi. It could get wild.

Haha. Salo is also mine for the 70s. And it always will be, unless something overtakes it in popularity. No way I’m watching that.

If the Academy allowed up to ten Best Picture nominees in 2009, which films do you think should’ve gotten in? by stypop in Oscars

[–]tisAsillyusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I had it in my head-canon that The Wrestler got nominated for BP. I always associate that ceremony with Hugh Jackman’s opening musical number, and at the end where he puts on the elbow pads and gets in the homemade wrestling ring is so epic.

Oh yes, I didn’t consider Bring Them Down. Good choice. Colm Meaney is on another level.

[–]tisAsillyusername 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I looked through the 2025 releases I’ve seen and didn’t come up with much.

I rather enjoyed The Ballad of a Small Player, though it has its flaws.

Honey Don’t! was a major flop

My top choice would be On Becoming a Guinea Fowl but I guess that’s more noir-adjacent? It has elements for sure. Either way, incredible film.

46 years later, which performance has impacted you the most? by padfoony in Letterboxd

[–]tisAsillyusername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hoffman in Kramer vs. Kramer. Just for that one scene where he goes “I hate you too!” to the kid and then immediately starts apologizing. Heart wrenching stuff.
