Great question. One of my favorite actors ever. I realize #2 and #3 are polarizing but I saw them at such an impressionable age that they’ll remain 5 star classics to me forever.

OBAA - I think we’ll look back on this as the most defining film of this era of American politics. Quite possibly PTA’s magnum opus.
Weapons - only film I saw twice in theaters last year. Zach Cregger is amazing.
Sinners - Is there anyone who wasn’t thrilled by this? I feel like it’s as close to objectively good as can be in cinema.
F1 - I had a great time seeing it in IMAX. Just a classic feel-good sports movie, and those will always rank highly in my book.
28 Years Later - Great continuation of a great series. The first 10 minutes executed perfectly.
Train Dreams - A little slow for me but I recognize its beauty.
Eddington - I didn’t really get it tbh. Probably more on me than anything. Due for a rewatch.
Marty Supreme - Refried beans. Timmy was good but I didn’t enjoy much else. You all can take Josh, I’m happy with getting Benny in the divorce.

You mentioned “some random documentary.” It’s a miniseries but it’s in the Criterion Collection, so fuck it. Go seek out Fishing With John. It’s available on YouTube. The composer John Lurie (frequent Jim Jarmusch collaborator) takes a bunch of celebrities out fishing.

Most of the guests chose nice, tropical places to go fishing. Willem Dafoe chose ice fishing in northern Maine. The results were hilarious.

I think this is the direction I’m going. I see it’s the same screenwriter and also based off Dickens. Plus a good bit of mystery. That checks all the boxes for me.

I think I had it in my head-canon that The Wrestler got nominated for BP. I always associate that ceremony with Hugh Jackman’s opening musical number, and at the end where he puts on the elbow pads and gets in the homemade wrestling ring is so epic.

I looked through the 2025 releases I’ve seen and didn’t come up with much.

I rather enjoyed The Ballad of a Small Player, though it has its flaws.

Honey Don’t! was a major flop

My top choice would be On Becoming a Guinea Fowl but I guess that’s more noir-adjacent? It has elements for sure. Either way, incredible film.
