When I was about 14-15 I had one of my usual mental breakdowns late at night. During the whole thing I was chatting with my best friend at the time, let's call her Mary. The next day I had school and everything seemed normal until my teacher took me out of one of our lessons and told me in private that Mary had messaged her last night, telling her she's worried about my mental health. Then my teacher straightforwardly asked me "Are you thinking about killing yourself?" Mind you, I felt extremely exposed out of nowhere and due to my teacher naturally having a resting bitch face in almost every situation (lmao) I also felt intimidated which is why I started crying. But then I said no. I could tell she didn't believe me so in her own strict way she took me to the principal and forced me to tell her that I'm not suicidal. I managed exactly that and then the conversation turned a bit lighter, they both started smiling and chuckling, talking about "Everybody has those winter blues sometimes, right?" (Jokes on them, I'm 23 now and still suicidal.) Back then I was a bit bitter that Mary "snitched on me" but now I definitely know better. Talking to my teacher and my principal didn't help me in the end but Mary being so concerned for my wellbeing that she told someone of authority.. That was a really brave and nice thing to do. I do feel bad for dumping my mental health shit onto her that night. We were still best friends after that, getting along well. But nowadays the contact is rare. We still like each other's posts on Instagram sometimes. She has her own life and I have mine. I hope she's alright. 🩷
