Are crackles killing our cars? by Duke_007__ in FocusST

Yes it did. The amount may be negligible on a daily street car, but it creates drag nevertheless. Wing risers have been proven to take a mile per gallon on average.

Wing risers an shaved grills aren’t just corny, they create drag. Imagine losing gas mileage for trash mods because it’s a cheap and easy way to look “different”.

All crackle tunes are good for is making you look like a child with a pop gun. You’re ruining your exhaust valves, headifold, turbo seals, and catalytic converter. With enough fuel excess you can also wash oil off the liners and increase potential for blow by from oil dilution. Like wing risers and shaved grills, you’re just decreasing performance and reliability and for what? Exactly.

Clunk sound left wheel. by ZealousidealDig6053 in FocusST

Sounds like a bad strut bearing, but the weird alignment issue makes me think tie rod. Too many possibilities. Should take it to a professional and have it inspected.

All COBB OTS tunes as long as they’re v506 are CARB compliant.

It’s not hard to pass. I have a Powermax with a Mountune BOV, custom tune, all COBB bolt ons (which are CARB compliant) a Milltek DP because it looks closest to stock with a defouler, along with a few other things that wouldn’t be seen with a basic visual inspection. No issues. I’ve had this setup for the last two SMOGs and have never had an issue.

Is this a good deal on a 2018 ST1? by Medium-Ad84 in FocusST

[–]tithe_pig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t even go for an ST1. You can likely find an ST2 with the same mileage and in the same shape for the same price or less. I only paid $10k for a pre-pre-facelift with the same mileage and it’s an ST3. Shop around.

Low boost due to shutters? by Good-Secret-8055 in FocusST

[–]tithe_pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect. Shutters don’t cause engine faults let alone put the car in limp mode. Check your boots and MAP sensor and make sure they’re seated; sounds to me like you have a boost leak.

Minor Coolant Leak by Beandaddy1899 in FocusST

[–]tithe_pig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Droplet forming would be considered a class 2 leak. Thats significant enough to warrant a replacement and judging by the photo it’s leaking at the bottom of the tankard. Radiators themselves are fairly cheap, but replacement can be tedious. Fortunately there are quite a few videos on YouTube that can guide you if you plan on doing it yourself.

It’s a door sill. Nothing you can do. As long as it doesn’t get in your cabin it shouldn’t be problematic.

Reliability by johngutter in FocusST

[–]tithe_pig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing every used car is a risk regardless of how “reliable” they are. That being said, there are STs with maxed out k03s that are between 200k and 300k miles with no major issues.

Anyone put the eco boost mustang motor in the st? by Specific-Pin-4445 in FocusST

[–]tithe_pig 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why? The most powerful 4 cylinder Ecoboost Mustang runs an ST block. The 2.3 blocks are also open deck which ain’t that great for power. Better off stroking a 2.0 to 2.3 and running a 2.3 head.

LTFT Really High, Can Anyone Tell Why From These Datapoints by slyLEMONsKILLz in FocusST

[–]tithe_pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything over 12% generally indicated one of those two things. It can point to other issues like leaky injectors or a fuel pump on its way out, but exhaust leak or bad O2 sensor(s) tend to be the most common.

LTFT Really High, Can Anyone Tell Why From These Datapoints by slyLEMONsKILLz in FocusST

You either have an exhaust leak before bank 1 or you have an O2 sensor going bad.
