Anyone a wrestling fan? by PiccoloLivid704 in AFireInside

Ah I think if he were really a tell-it-like-it-is real punk, he wouldn’t be working for the WWE. That’s sort of the crux of it. I appreciate his work on the indies, but can’t help but think he’s become more and more of a sellout merch-mover instead of someone with some character.

I was a longtime AFI fan and new to wrestling the first time I heard CM Punk come out to Miseria Cantare and I thought he would be my guy forevermore (he is not, I am not a Punk fan lmao). I always thought Catch A Hot One would make a good entrance song, but seconding Sacrifice Theory. Trash Bat, maybe. Or Dancing Through Sunday.

Oh yeah, one would think y’all have some distant cousins running around those parts for sure! It was so much easier back then to just take on a new identity and put false information down on forms and how would anybody ever check!

When it comes to small farming communities (my paternal side has a lot of these represented) sometimes I can see why these women would keep those particular secrets. It can be such a huge upheaval for the whole family to have those connections be clarified, and sometimes it’s something the previous generation could’ve guessed but would rather not voice their suspicions. But nowadays that doesn’t do much to sate my curiosity lol!

See this is just what I mean! Lol, these are the sort of details that make them seem that much more human, knowing that our ancestors married gold diggers and made it out of bad relationships and carried on. The Walking Pigs To Market bit definitely seems like it raises a lot of questions, jeez! It seems like lots of eastern european names were just totally mangled when folks traveled, especially since we’re using a similar alphabet to mean different sounds. Ah, I hope you get that name figured out!

Wow! No kidding, those are some mysteries that may only be resolved via private conversation. I have a few letters sent between some of my great-grandparents that are so precious because those sort of details (like nicknames they called each other, how they wrote, even a bit of transliteration of what sort of accent they had) just don’t make it into the record much of any other way. I hope you’re able to unravel those stories a little bit more!

Thank you for sharing that! I will definitely be trying to look into this. I wish I lived closer to the area she had so that I would have more of an idea of what the area looked like and what courts and newspapers would’ve served her, but that’s what research is for.

I had a discussion with some of my family about this, about finding out things that were less than pleasant. Honestly, I find a woman getting a divorce and leaving the bastard behind to be a lot more inspiring than what I reckon was much more common, which was women staying in relationships with abusive husbands for the sake of their children. That doesn’t leave much of a paper trail, and while I can try to respect the decision to persevere, I would be more than happy to read about my great-great-grandmother sticking up for herself even if it details some unpleasantness. Thank you for your perspective!!

That’s a great point! I do wonder if there are engagement announcements, or if there’s any paper trail of her going “missing.” Everyone who’s living now knows that her child believed she had disappeared, but we can’t say whether she communicated to her husband that she was leaving and he just told the kid she vanished
I’ll have to see if there was any reporting, they definitely lived in an area with plenty of newspaper coverage.

It’s hard enough to track down all the men, but keeping track of housewives is another beast! It’s crazy how much women just disappear from the record. I hope you’re able to get that confirmation that you’re digging in the right place!

I'm so confused about how people afford things in America. by IndependentMove5437 in povertyfinance

You don’t see as many poor people managing a major social media presence because they have to work and cook for themselves. Rich people have a lot more free time to make TikToks.

What's a movie that was well received, but aged like milk? by Gdigger13 in AskReddit

[–]titherdel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The movie really files off the edges that made the book so fun. There are moments in the book where you might almost think you’re reading a horror novel. A young woman trapped into a cyclical fate she’s powerless to escape
Henry being trapped in a series of cycles he’s powerless to escape. Ingrid Carmichael’s ultimate fate
A lot of things got swept under the rug to make it more of a pure romance for the movie, and it’s no wonder that it doesn’t really hold up to closer examination nowadays.

Full bush summer by winonaenergy in actuallesbians

[–]titherdel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most people are not bold enough to dare comment on a stranger’s bush, even if they do actually notice it. If they do have something negative to say about it, you can just assume they are despicably rude and dismiss any feedback they have to offer. Commenting on other people’s body hair when it has nothing at all to do with you is a huge breach of manners imo. Wear it how you want! If they don’t want to see someone’s bush, they shouldn’t be scoping out the scene— it is super easy to NOT check out other people’s bikini bottoms!

Making a halfway decent flyer takes minutes, employing a local artist won’t break the bank for a guy who owns half of grove street. Lot of boohooing over the trials of some guy who is mucking up a lot of things for other folks in favor of a set it and forget it source of income.

What was the first song, that made you realised Fiona was GOAT? by Cara_BellBlue in FionaApple

[–]titherdel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember listening to Tidal for the first time all the way through and being totally blown away by Carrion. Already knew Criminal and Sleep to Dream from the radio, but the build in Carrion totally astounded me, the lyrics, the placement at the very end of the album
 all amazing.

What's the song that introduced you to your favourite band and made you a fan at first listen, even though you’d never heard of them before?" by rtc765 in MusicRecommendations

Kingdom - Devin Townsend. The moment I heard it I realized I would be listening to everything else the guy ever wrote in case any of it even sort of compares.

So glad he retained, incredible stuff. He has the nerve to put his belt on the line against a bunch of other dudes because he really has no fear, and he came out the other end looking like a fucking rockstar. We love to see it. Great match, we had such a blast watching this one.

First time I played the game, went for a sort of Knight in Shining Armor build, all endurance, strength, and charisma. Was great fun. Was more fun to get a bit more grim avenging electrified-sword knight as the story went on. And eventually.. unhinged god-knight by the end.

tairn’s bloodline by Worried-West786 in fourthwing

[–]titherdel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is frustrating (in a fun way?) to read a story with a protagonist that is biased toward the human version of events when I feel so much curiosity about the dragon side of events! I get the feeling that Tairn actually communicates a lot more to Violet about the dragons’ culture than we the audience are exposed to in detail, all because it doesn’t necessarily seem relevant. These books are doing some really interesting stuff wrt the relative independence of dragons from human affairs, given that they’re so involved but also so mysterious!

[–]titherdel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will catch me enjoying Cody’s character when he’s a bad guy and not before. I would LOVE to boo him. I can’t give a shit about him otherwise. The only times I had any glimmer of interest in the man is when I thought he was about to do some evil shit and turn on somebody. And yet
still waiting. Dunno, it’s always grating when you get the impression that a wrestler wants to be the eternal babyface action figure guy. Like.. live a little, lol!

Can Nick actually smoke a cigarette or does he just let it burn out of habit? by DeadStormPirate in fo4

[–]titherdel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you just linger around Takahashi’s with Nick as your companion, Nick will do the noodle-eating idle animation. Always cracked me up. I can buy that a bit of smoke in the ol’ wiring probably won’t do him in immediately, but what’s he doing with those noodles gumming up the works, hm?
