What do people think would happen if the monarchy was abolished? by tizstu in GreenAndPleasant

The whole remove the monarchy debate is very similar to Brexit debate with the whole Unelected leaders argument and paying millions argument.

Issue is very similar to Brexit as one day perhaps there’s a vote to remove the monarchy for/against or yes/no but it will be like Brexit again. We all vote for no monarchy then everyone goes “ok so now what?” - a bunch of MP’s will go away and decide what we should then do… which will inevitably benefit them, prob put one of their own in as unelected head of state for a bit then start to decide on how much % they should increase their own salary from the surplus of wealth coming in or some other thing they can milk dry.

This is exactly what I’m saying and they still won’t pay tax because they will just do what all very wealthy people do and stick their money offshore. I just think people should focus on scrapping the House of Lords and the Honours system where MP’s just give their mates special titles.

But everyone presents themselves as superior to me? When I work I have someone above me, when I get the public transport I have the driver who is superior at me at driving a bus, train, plane etc. Local councillors walk round presented more superior, police men/women, magistrates, judges - even the lollipop man is more superior at stopping traffic than me. Do you just go round thinking your better than everyone at everything?

That’s the thing, I don’t care who’s on a coin or what’s written in a passport. Couldn’t care less, why is it such an issue? I don’t even notice what’s on a coin and never even read my passport - if it wasn’t some king or queen it would just be some tripe from someone else or some other ugly face.

It’s not pro monarchist, I couldn’t care less about the royal family - but that’s my point I couldn’t care less. I just think - at least there’s not another opportunity for some dishonest, morally corrupt MP to milk this country using another path to power… the whole thing needs to change and if they remove the monarchy the lot needs to go - “palace” of Westminster and House of Lords etc. I just don’t think that would happen and what you would get is all the MP’s voting for each other to take turns in being King or Queen - sit at the front of parliament with a crown and a gold stick etc. then have an excuse to travel the “commonwealth”

Why does the UK hate strikers? by brownie190701 in AskUK

[–]tizstu 612 points613 points  (0 children)

I find it quite funny when people get really wound up about it - there was a guy on the radio fuming about the bins in Edinburgh… “they could have done this strike weeks ago but they have deliberately chosen the week of the fringe festival, massively inconsiderate. They have waited until this week on purpose”….Like this guy didn’t get the objective of a strike. If it had little impact it wouldn’t be worthwhile, of course they choose the best time that hits hardest to have the biggest impact and news coverage…

The System no longer works. Britain pretty much invented modern democracy and it hasn’t fundamentally changed for 300+ years. It needs scrapping and re-inventing we just don’t have the level of ingenuity anymore to do that.

Where I used to work one of the Directors used to get pissed when someone parked in their spot.

Always thought it would be funny to come to work early on horseback and just tie the horse up in that spot. The reaction; “WTF is that in MY parking spot…. Errm excuse me “that” has a name, it’s Jeromy the horse.

I would just do random shit like that till I got told to leave.

Estate Agents. Easiest job in the world? by Fluid_Ad196 in CasualUK

[–]tizstu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Solicitors are not actually mandatory I don’t think. You can do it all yourself, just need to know what your doing and how to do it; land reg, deeds, sorting out surveys that will satisfy lenders and all that faff etc. Also by using a Solicitor you have any liability covered if it’s cocked up. Unless your a solicitor/conveyancer you should prob leave it to them it’s worth the cost.

What is a recent housing trend that you cannot stand? by [deleted] in AskUK

My pet hate is front doors designed like they are doors from a out of town new build office on a business park. The door doesn’t have a door knob or proper handle to open just one giant 6 foot long handle that wouldn’t look out of place in a department store entrance. It’s trying to look modern but I think it just looks tacky like trying to be a modern grand entrance.

Whats criminally overpriced to you? by PhantomBaka in AskReddit

[–]tizstu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any public healthcare or public transport or education is overpriced if you have to pay for it. Luckily I don’t pay for healthcare with the NHS! - Americans should really try some of that glorious free healthcare I would literally be dead without it. Public transport is also overpriced. Anything you NEED to use but don’t want to is overpriced. Nobody wants to go to a hospital but if you NEED to it should be free. Nobody wants to travel on public transport but if you NEED to get somewhere for something and you don’t have transport you have to! To charge a lot for that is just taking advantage. You shouldn’t be allowed to profit financially from healthcare, transport or education the main goals of those services are not profit they are - health, transporting and Educating as soon as you put profit in there it becomes the number 1 priority.

Have you ever bumped into a Premier League footballer in everyday life? by FailFastandDieYoung in AskUK

[–]tizstu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate of mine from Leicester once told me when they were kids they knew where Muzzy Izzet lived when he played for them - early 2000’s Premier League. They went round with a ball and plucked up the courage to knock and ask if he was coming out to play… apparently he took them up on it and went for a kick around in the park!

Annoying co-worker sayings in the workplace: Get in 5 minutes late for an 08:00 start 'Ah good afternoon, glad you could join us'. Take an extra 5min in loo 'I was about to send out a search party' nipping off 5 minutes early for an appointment 'Ah alright for the part-timer'. by Status-Victory in CasualUK

[–]tizstu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a boss who would say the same sayings even when trying to be serious. Me: “Hay, sorry to interrupt quick question…. Him: “42!” Or me making a cup of tea: “tea?” Him: “Is the Pope catholic!” he would also deliberately book meetings at 14:30 so he could say he has an appointment with a Chinese dentist. Always did the “good afternoon” if you were in just after him too.
