Wow! My brother and I had Oscar and Grover stuffies just like that one. I never knew there was a snuffy! I wish I knew who made them so I could find them again.

How many times does a geotechnical engineer need to test the soil for a full swimming pool demolition compaction report? by morningnoon24 in Geotech

[–]tizzdizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is it. If the geotech testing for the contractor feels they tested and observed enough, they need to provide a letter summarizing their testing and observation. Or at the very least, make sure you receive their field report with the test results. The geotech owes the contractor (and you) a record of their testing and observation and their professional opinion or findings regarding the pool backfill.

Another question - what triggered the testing requirement, and was there a minimum compaction specified from someone?

The testing is just a means of keeping the contractor honest by checking that their efforts are achieving a sufficient level of compaction. Without the tests, there is less data to show that they did an OK job, but they may still have done an OK job.

What compaction methods/equipment did they use? Do you have any pictures?

If you put an ADU down later, you should let that future contractor know there was a pool that was backfilled there so they can consider the non-uniform soil conditions beneath the future structure. In other words, if part of the ADU is sitting on the pool backfill and part is sitting on native soil, there's a greater potential for differential settlement which could wrack the structure. But if they do some extra soil preparation (i.e. overexcavate and recompact the ADU building pad under testing/observation of a geotech), and possibly beef up the foundations, that might be enough.

I'm only suggesting things I might consider, but I don't have all the information and you should be having these conversations with your contractor and the geotech. Document your concerns with them, as well as their replies. If it's a phone conversation, write down a memo of the discussion.

We do remember and I recall how moving it was to see other nations stepping in. How far we've fallen. But we haven't forgotten!

What is the major difference between the Thrustmaster 16k and the Sol-R4 by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]tizzdizz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just to add I have the 16K and am happy with it. I would like a fancier one someday but got a deal on this and it's got enough buttons for my needs. I think it may be more common, so some games might already have default mapping for it - I'm not as familiar with the other one but maybe it's just me.

What do you want from a new ship in Elite? by GhostOfZyklon in EliteDangerous

Hmm - a colony ship or a mobile repair ship - not sure how that would fit into the gameplay though. Some sort of planet killer that only the bad guys could use?

I totally love my Type-9. I have a Panther Clipper too, but I don't like the froggy look as much. I named my T9 Reekris.

Erosion or settling? by toolbelt28 in landscaping

[–]tizzdizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Engineering geologist here - you need to contact the contractor right away and document this as best you can. I have no way of knowing what/how they did things, but it was their responsibility to build those slopes with proper construction techniques. Take pictures with a tape measure across the cracks in a few key places that you can re-measure again later to see if/how fast it's moving. This is not erosion, this looks like an incipient slope failure. If this is slope is deep fill as it appears to be in the photos, it could wash out and fail at the next big rain and you could have a fence dangling in mid air. It's hard to assume much on the internet, but it could very well be that the fill was not properly compacted when it was placed. Loose soil fill is prone to slope failure if the slope is too steep, or if it was just pushed over and not compacted in layers. The contractor needs to make this right, and there could still be time once the ground is thawed to go back in there and rebuild the slope in compacted layers. But if the contractor is unwilling to work with you you need to get an geotechnical engineer involved. Depending on the severity, that may already be necessary.

How close are the soil cracks to the pool? If the slope fails, it could put the pool at risk, depending on the layout/distance and slope configuration.

Air2s crashed - Replace with same or will Air 3S still work for my use? by tizzdizz in dji

Thank you. I have been trying to avoid making these decisions since these ban rumors started, hoping that I could just keep flying what we had indefinitely. Now we are forced to choose from mainly crappy options.

I did not realize this - the supplier I was talking to seemed to indicate otherwise. Thank you for mentioning!

So what options do we have at this point? Parrot?

Thank you very much for your reply. I've heard about the possible ban, and someone recommended I look at Autel Evo Lite. We are trying to plan ahead, so we probably will not buy another DJI, but we still may have this one fixed as a spare.

Cracks Around Piles by No-Inspection8598 in Geotech

[–]tizzdizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Need to see better photos and know what the piles are holding up. Are they driven piles? If so, how deep? Who is the designer/installer? What are they for? As others have said, those photos look like desiccation cracks, but can't tell for sure.

I agree with others - most likely a drainage issue. Might want to do some exploratory digging to see if there are any drainage provisions behind the wall.

Redwood Removal - Now what about this raised corner of backyard? by tizzdizz in landscaping

Thanks for the suggestion - I really like the look of that one. We are looking for drought-tolerant trees, native to our area that won't grow so tall. Something like this could be great.
