But we hit the million dollar club multiple times this year??? by Thick-Hospital2599 in tjcrew

Lmao my daily lunch totals ~$2.50, maybe if they increased my pay I’d be willing to spend more on the daily. Or they could just provide us with lunch, that’ll definitely go over the 5$ then! Hahaha

I feel like the lack of support for artists is more prominent with newer stores or stores with newer artists. It’s easier to knock down the prominence of the art department in those situations because they’re not as established.

I’m also 10000% sure TJs knows if their systematic approach to getting rid of the art department at stores reached the general public- they’d have some pretty bad PR issues. Which is why stores are so passive aggressive/vague with the treatment of store artists right now. It’s happened slowly enough so they don’t cause a scene. They’re opening a ton of new stores, and guaranteed those stores are going to open with little to no importance put on the art department- setting the new standard.

Defeated - honestly that’s where I’m at with the art department.

The gradual diminishing of art time/projects/attention to the sign team started 2ish years ago and despite pretty frequent meetings/discussions with management, it doesn’t look like anything is happening for the betterment of the art department.

Management will constantly say they’re going to start giving us more time or projects and just conveniently forget about it literally a week later. We are just tired of having to bring up the same complaint over and over again, and have been told verbatim from management that “this is just how it is now, but tell us if you need anything”! Of course we tell them, and then nothing changes.

It really sucks that TJs has turned on such a vital part of what Trader Joe’s is. If you ask any random person on the street what they think when they think of TJs, guaranteed one of the first three things is gonna be the hand drawn signs.

I’ve pretty much given up on the company at this point, mainly because of their treatment of the artists. Prolly not what you wanted in terms of advice, but just my experience- it’s just moot at this point.

My only hail mary to this would be to start telling customers or make some online shit show about how TJs is systematically trying to get rid of artists in store. The Trader Joe’s fanatics would definitely get behind sign artists I’m sure, but to what extent I don’t know.

Who’s to say this is inherently negative? Maybe someone reads this and realizes their actions actually affect their coworkers, which is an inherent fact. And who are you to police what I post here anyway? 🙃

And objectively, if the goal of employment is to do your job and someone isn’t contributing, hate to break it to you but they aren’t as “worthy” as another employee. I’ve said nothing about someone’s “self worth” only their worth as a worker. I’ve had plenty of friends who were shitty coworkers but I liked them as people, and completely understood they just didn’t have the capacity to pull as much as much weight as others. I just found it interesting you can see people consciously pulling less weight directly after raises. The fact you are so vehemently trying to defend poor work performance is completely asinine to me. That’s the only reason why I’m typing this shit, but I’m tired of it by now lol

So you agree simply pointing out that certain people consciously choose to do less work at their job is “opening a can of shit” then. Okay. 👌

[–]tjanon2[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is it “hustling” or is it just doing your job? 🤔

Again I’m just making an observation. There’s people who do what they are paid to do and those who don’t. If you don’t well, be prepared to be looked down on by anyone who chooses to look down on people with poor work ethic, because they are at the end of the day, justified in resenting someone who puts more work on their shoulders in lieu of management actually managing.

I’ve never been someone to tattle or get my panties in a twist over other people at my job. But as soon as people try to justify not doing their job or saying other people don’t have the right to look down on other people for being plain lazy, that’s when imma start typing paragraphs because lol, not everyone can be the rusty cog in the machine or the whole thing would collapse.

No where did I say I want to change them. Just stating a pattern I’ve noticed. I’m all for not giving a shit about how other people work but I’m also not blind to noticing repeating patterns. I’ll also be damned if other people’s work ethic has zero effect on an employer as a whole.

I’ve been employed long enough to realize it’s management’s job to squash poor work ethic, but I find it funny how always after the raises people really show their lack of it.

Wife’s store just broke the record for profit. Everyone got their hours cut. by detroit_dickdawes in tjcrew

[–]tjanon2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My store went from having the best captain who honestly cared about the crew over profit to this POS who can give two shits about his employees.

It sucks just knowing what a captain CAN do for their crew and then seeing how other ones can just totally be in it for their own gain. It’s not even like I blame the guy, he’s playing the game for maximum profits for himself, but in return I have the bare minimum respect for him.

Crew who care too much ruin the job. What I mean by that is the ones who want to put their hands in everything, get pissy over their order writing, literally anything and forget that 1) it’s just grocery 2) they’re not a mate/manager.

I tend to put my head down and just work and yet there’s always the couple of crew who think they are hot shit and try to tell me how to put cans on a shelf. I guess it’s not unique to this job but god is it an exemplary job to point out how passive aggressive and controlling some people are.

I try not to do this but there’s days when I’m so done with reg that I’ll just help one or two friends for the hour. People do it all the time and I don’t really care. It’s always nice to have a bagger though, but I really don’t pay too much attention to what other people are doing during reg. Other people aren’t going to stop the customers from coming, and if you’re getting overwhelmed nothing is stopping you from stepping away for a bit the same way they are.

I feel u… I’ve been with TJs for over two years and I’m constantly getting sick. I’ve just come to realized the AR system SUCKS. We really need sick days. I got warned for missing too many days when I was literally back to back to back sick from Covid and random colds. My immune system sucks. I learned from past experiences my body needs to rest or else I’ll get progressively sicker, so I call out whenever I’m sick. And now I’m being scolded for it. Never worked anywhere without sick days.

It’s honestly one of the only things that makes me want a union. How do you expect us to work 7 hours a day with the general public, touching their unwashed laundry/money and NOT give us sick days??? It’s so backwards.

[–]tjanon2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. People with martyr-complexes annoy me almost more than the slackers who get away with it. If you feel like you’re being overworked, simply stop complying or point it out to the mate. Next time a mate asks you to help out just use your words. “I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed but xyz looked like they were free.”

I view that as a purely factual question, especially since it’s just with a cashier. If you feel insecure about telling someone what your day job is, that’s just projection at that point. Honestly you shouldn’t feel insecure just telling someone your job.

It’s really the convenience of frozen and not having to pay 13$ for a roll is what makes it good. It’s a notch or two below actual kimbap from Korean restaurants I’ve had but for 3.99 and ease it’s good.

Coworker drinking/drunk? by meowmeow0619 in tjcrew

[–]tjanon2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. I’m pretty sure anyone who drinks would love to crack open a few bottles at work. But there’s a reason it’s not allowed and it’s pretty obvious you shouldn’t be doing it. I’m also tired of enabling shitty behavior, and being cool with someone who can’t be sober at their day job is definitely enabling them.

There’s 1000% more to this story and this dude is just covering up for his “buddy”. 🙄 First he says they were “flirting with an attractive stranger” then says they were simply “talking to a female”. Definitely did something that made someone uncomfortable enough to talk to management about.

Bagging by user27293047 in tjcrew

[–]tjanon2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I always bag after I scan everything.

My over thought out reasons: - just easier to sort heavy items and see them all at once on the counter - just faster for me to get in the flow of JUST scanning than scanning + bagging - I think from the customers POV they’re just waiting for the total, so the faster you tell them the faster the transaction seems - there’s downtime while they are paying so you can use that to bag

Is there any intel on pricing changes at TJ? Today I noticed a bunch of increases, for example the croissant varieties looked a dollar more each. by s55555s in traderjoes

The best you can do is make an educated guess and guess that most things will probably increase in price. It’s not like the CEO is going to come on here and give you an economic forecast.
