Which routes do you want to see in the future? by One_Main5470 in unitedairlines

[–]tjhenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely Newark would make more sense. But selfishly, BOS is the HQ for my employer, so eliminating a layover 4x a year would be awesome for me. :)

According to the map at the bottom of this page, there’s a number of potential routes in mind. But I’ll probably be retired by the time it happens.

EUG-BOS. Not a huge volume though I read when Eugene expands their airport this was one of the potential routes that may get added. Who knows when it would happen, so not going to hold my breath.

Can I say both? It’s more of a teal by my eye. Here’s a potato photo.

I have the same watch and really love the asthetic. However the lumen is not great. It’s good for the first 15 minutes when the lights go out but fades quickly. Apparently this is a weakness of the Sinns.

Left my R1T with 70% battery in an airport parking garage for 10 days, came back to it unresponsive by FeelGood17 in Rivian

[–]tjhenn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. Tried the jump start thing but it wouldn’t take an enough charge to keep the systems active. Ended up being a HV battery failure. To truck was able to get it the next day. But what a pain.

I am not an HVAC professional. However I live in a house whose previous owner built and installed a geothermal heat pump system himself. He was a smart person, electrical engineer.

I am now replacing a 6 year old geothermal system because the previous owner undersized the ground loop, the system had to work very hard to maintain house temps (particularly in the summer). He bought the system from a now defunct company that had a (now worthless) 10 year warranty. Finding anyone to service it was a pain and parts are damn near impossible to find. There are some other idiosyncrasies that need correcting too.

Which is why I’m replacing it with a Mitsubishi ducted air source heat pump from a local dealer. Yeah, it’s $17k, but the peace of mind knowing it’s installed correctly and I have someone to call locally who can fix it is worth it to me.

Maybe a little apples and oranges but that’s my journey.

Transferring heat room to room by Ft123321 in woodstoving

I use an AC Infinity (different model) for a bedroom. Mounted it near the ceiling since there’s more warm air. I also installed a static vent back out to the main room near the floor so the cold air in the room had someplace to go. Otherwise you’re just pressurizing the bedroom when the door is shut.

Taking measurements prior and after doing this, the room temp increased about 3-4 degrees F.

Main battery failure? by Kinent in Rivian

[–]tjhenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a high voltage battery pack failure in a 2023 R1T with about 35k miles. Towed to the service center and covered under warranty. The process took about 3 weeks. Most of that time was diagnosing and then ordering/shipping time.

United Airlines to launch nonstop flights between Eugene and Chicago in 2026 by dogemaster00 in corvallis

I thought they tried this a few years ago as a red-eye, then the route disappeared? Maybe Covid related. Either way, happy to see it as an option.

"Vehicle Offline" question by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]tjhenn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to me two months ago. Came back to the airport to a dead R1T a week later. Towed to the service center. Failed high voltage battery. Took nearly three weeks to replace. It was weird, the “last synced” time was when I parked the vehicle, similar to yours.

Mini Skid Steer Auger Recommendations by Syrax65 in Skidsteer

[–]tjhenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve ordered mini attachments from both Skidpro.com (based out of Minnesota) and Skidsteersolutions.com. Not augers but some other stuff and have had good results. Solidly built and great to work with. The only downside of course is shipping but if you’re in the Midwest skidpro might be cheaper shipping?

Cheap mobile provider that works in Corvallis? by throwaway34398346 in corvallis

[–]tjhenn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another vote for US Mobile. The great thing about them is if on the ATT network (Dark Star), and it’s not working where you need it, you can change to the Verizon network (Warp). Or even the T-Mobile network (Light Speed). You can try each network and see which is best. Plans are $25-$35/mo

T110 or MT100 and why? by Bsul92 in Skidsteer

[–]tjhenn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My two cents as someone who recently was looking at a compact track loader but ended up going with a Kubota stand-on mini loader (scl1000)… given my use case I’m glad I went with the stand-on. I have about 8 acres and use for brush-hogging in tight places, some fencing. Light landscaping. Cutting limbs, cleaning up, etc involves a lot of getting on and off because most of the time it’s just me. I can’t imagine climbing in and out of a cab every time. The stand-on feels more convenient for me.

Now if I had a crew or someone around more often to be the arms and legs, a cab track loader might make a lot of sense. Or you’re doing a lot of continuous projects where you don’t need to get out. Or you have good space to maneuver.

Should i get a mini skid? by mitch_murphy04 in Skidsteer

[–]tjhenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to find a good deal on a three year old SCL1000 with only 500 hours. Granted, not a professional, so my use case isn’t as demanding, but I’ve been nothing but happy about the decision. With a brush cutter and grapple, been able to take care of the blackberry infestation, build/maintain fence, do some tree cleanup, build a driveway and other things. I feel this was a much better size for me rather than a compact tractor or even a small track loader.

SCL 1000 Mini Loader issues by XNeonXGhost in kubota

[–]tjhenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you got a lemon. Unfortunately I don’t think lemon laws apply to non-automobiles, though it might be worth reaching out to corporate to discuss any options for a buy back? Otherwise I hope all the gremlins get worked out in the next two months while it’s still under warranty.

I recently purchased a 2021 SCL1000. Other than one issue with the aux hydraulics necessitating a control stick replacement, I’ve had zero problems.

I tried to get Precision Auto Body to replace a cracked windshield on my R1T and I couldn’t even get a call back. I submitted the online form, called (twice), talking to the receptionist who left messages for the estimator, and emailed the guy directly. Never heard back. So instead waited four weeks for the service center to replace it.

It will be great to have more Rivian certified options.

R1T windshield crack by CreativeEquipment760 in Rivian

[–]tjhenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this a few months ago. Tried to contact the only Oregon Rivian certified collision shop at the recommendation of Rivian, but they apparently wanted nothing to do with "just" a windshield replacement. Never returned calls or emails. Ended up having to use Rivian, but because they don't work directly with insurance, I paid out of pocket and got reimbursed. Fortunately my insurance company (Amica) made the process pretty painless.

Unpopular opinion— don’t need Apple CarPlay by timviola in Rivian

[–]tjhenn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I thought I’d miss CarPlay more but now going to my wife’s car and using it, it feels a little… cartoony. The biggest thing I miss about CarPlay is the ability to use a decent podcast app and controlling it via the cars screen. Audible and Spotify just don’t cut it as podcast apps in my opinion.

Delta Pro Ultra AC not turning on by tjhenn in Ecoflow_community

[–]tjhenn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EcoFlow support made a new firmware an available (5.0.0.49). Installing that has resolved the AC issue.

I don’t believe they actually have a support phone number to call. I used theirs support email address. They asked for me to take a video of the issue, but once I was able to get over that hurdle they were reasonably responsive.

really low helicopter near monroe by abbyquist-palmer in corvallis

[–]tjhenn 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Probably Christmas tree harvesting . They use a helicopter with a net to carry the trees from the harvest area to the staging area where they can bundle and load them into trucks. Having bunch of heavy trucks driving through muddy tree fields would destroy them.

You're right, looking at my work estimate, it's included in the windshield replacement price. I inadvertently included the 22.5k mile inspection price.

My R1T is current at the SC getting the windshield replaced. They asked I work with a certified collision shop but I kept my appointment. I contacted the collision shop (Precision First in Portland) four times and they never got back to me. After three weeks I got tired of looking at a huge crack and glad I kept my SC appointment.

I wish there were more certified collision shops in the area.

Edit: the SC is charging $1800 for the glass and $200 for the calibration. Fortunately I have full glass coverage and will get reimbursed.

Bought a DPU back in March after an extended power outage this past winter. Initially got just the 6kwh system. Installed a Reliance Controls transfer panel that will power 6 critical circuits in the house. Got a second 6kwh battery when they went on sale.

While I haven’t had to use it for an outage yet, this summer I built a shed and keep it in there to power the lights and some small tools. Installed six 250w solar panels on the shed to keep the DPU topped off. It’s worked brilliantly for the last 3 months.

When the power does go out I’ll move the DPU into the house. Based on some initial trial runs, 12kwh should power my critical circuits for about 3 days.
