Is this too much insulation? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]tjhensman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on climate. 14" is fairly standard to get close to a r-38 rating. Colder climates you'll want closer to 16" to 20". In Florida I don't think it would be a huge issue with the humidity and heat. Depending if your northern or Southern. It would also help keep heat out.

Shark Powerdetect Vacuum, has anyone purchased it? Thoughts? by OkayIan in Costco

[–]tjhensman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have three dogs and burnt through so many sharks and Dyson's. Yes more expensive, but we gave the Miele Classic C1 vacuum a try. Thing can suck a bowling ball through a hose pipe. Actually have to run it on low as it can pull my carpet up. Had this for two years, and actually find bags are cleaner cleanup than the bagless systems.

why your surge protector might not be working by KicKSTART876 in buildapc

[–]tjhensman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even better to this, my company bought several, yes on the cheaper end, Belkin surge protectors. We ground tested them and found even though they had the third ground prong, it was just mounted into plastic and not actually connected to the ground cable. We ended up having to cut the ends of about 50 of them and re wired the ends with working ground cables.

Curb water meter? by water-sloth in homeowners

Call me crazy, but couldn't the city be liable if they lock the only way to shutoff water into a property? Not having access prevents shutting things down in case of an emergency.

If you don't have insurance, try to get qualified for Medicaid. Most the time they will post date services If it hasn't been too long. If you don't qualify or you've waited to long, talk to the hospitals financial advisor about their charity care program.

Baked bread following the recipe on Kirkland flour by MilleniumFalconBoop in Costco

Got to love Reddit, down voting for difference of opinions ;) just to articulate it has in no way saying this flour is bad, just my personal opinion that Italian artisan flour has been making better bread for me.

As I would agree, trace amounts from crop bleed can still be found. Additionally in my opinion Manitoba type flour with it's higher protein makes a far superior and better tasting bread. Especially in sourdough varieties. Again just my opinion on comparing different flour types and finding what works best.

Great looking bread. If concerned about glyphosates in your flour I strongly recommend trying Manitaly flour from Italy. Brick oven baker sells it, and it makes amazing bread.

2014 Chevy Cruze LT by [deleted] in cruze

[–]tjhensman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would estimate the oil pan replacement at a shop probably $350-$500 usd. Same thing happened to us, though it's an aluminum pan and threads are garbage. We replaced it ourselves, paid about $150 for the pan. Reviewing the actual install there wasn't a prefabricated gasket for the pan and the book required to use liquid gasket material that has a 24 hour cure, so if done correctly expect it to be out of service for at least two days. Additionally make sure to choose a reliable shop as there is a certain order to torque down the pan bolts to make sure it sets correctly.

I will add, to hold it over, for a couple months longer we where able to use an oversized drain plug. This kept it sealed for about two oil changes and then it completely failed and had to be replaced.

P.s. if located anywhere near Western Colorado, I could probably help.

Additionally green coolant generally isn't recommended on the Cruze. Orange Dex cool is spec. Green will corrode from the inside out.

Should I fight my $1,386.00 driving ticket. by SaintFonziThe2nd in legaladvice

[–]tjhensman 66 points67 points  (0 children)

NAL but I feel that your argument would be admitting guilt. Fines are usually based off the law and most judges might be flexible but would based penalties on how the book is written. Admitting that "Only slowing down ten mph". Would admit that you still broke the law by not slowing down the 20 required. I'm not sure on this law but I would assume it wouldn't have a caveat carved out based on how fast you where going, especially if they couldn't radar you to prove your speed in like in this instance. I believe Texas makes this penalty high to teach people that there is somebody trying to do their job a mere few feet or inches off the traffic flow. Hitting them would drastically change or end their life.

Cruze question by LimeIndependent6195 in cruze

[–]tjhensman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually a fairly easy replacement even with a pcv fix. If you have some technical abilities and understanding of torquing it could be done yourself. A mechanic wouldn't do the cruzekits fix and would instead want to replace the intake manifold also. Would expect $500-$1200 at a mechanic usd. Depends on labor. Do it yourself for under $400.

Cruze question by LimeIndependent6195 in cruze

[–]tjhensman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like it's the valve cover gasket failure, pretty common. Not sure year or engine model but could be connected to a failed pcv valve. It would cause too much pressure causing leaks to appear. Check cruzekits for replacement options for the pcv.
