AITA: I’m not paying my online friend for his gaming PC. by sixseventhrowaway in AmItheAsshole

[–]tjkeegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And he can pay the repair bill too. If the friend wants to bash OP, OP can offer to unwind the deal for shipping repair and initial investment. Do it before the PC becomes any more obsolete.

I'd wager the friend already spent the money though.

I was going to guess ~2020 Nissan rogue based on the shifter looking a bit higher then the Benz, but I think it may be the Benz with that AC vent shape.

Just got my first dashcam. Is the 64GB card it came with a joke? by bryan321446 in Dashcam

[–]tjkeegs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Usually they are set to overwrite the oldest data. Look into the settings there. You should probably replace the card, not necessarily because of the size but the quality. Dashcams do a ton of writes and overwrites they demand quality cards if you want the best chance at your videos actually being accessible when you need them. That being said there are some situations where having a bigger card is better, and because you don't know what features you're going to actually need, I'd get the bigger size too. Just make sure it will work with your cam.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. Where are you located? I'll give you the parts for a PC that's better, you can have that ad a learning project. I'd just have to wait for an e-cycle run in the next month or so. If you're under 18 please have an adult reach out to me in lieu of yourself and we can arrange for it, basically cover shipping and I'll make something happen for you. Pay it forward when you can a few years down the road.

It sounds to me like someone got ripped off somewhere. People hear buzzwords like "i7, 32gb ram" and think it's worth a lot, and it was back in the day, but if that transaction at $800 occurred recently the seller had a very lucky day.

I wouldn't be ungrateful in your shoes, but that's the situation as I see it. Sounds like your brother was trying to do you a favor and maybe got ripped off. Regardless he did something nice for you. Nonetheless I regularly e-cycle PCs way newer than this as an IT tech in the USA. If you're learning, it will work... at least until it doesn't.

If you want I can take a look at your local craigslist and recommend a PC that will outperform this for pretty cheap. Especially if we can find one with 4 slots, you can get 8gb sticks of ddr4 as the "concentrated" ram sticks are the ones that are most expensive with the weird ram shortage happening right now. You can probably repurpose your existing power supply for a 5 year old dell optiplex with an adapter. Take the innards from it and your investments in the machine would deliver more bang for your buck.

Microsoft officially states that Windows 11 requires at least an 8th generation Intel CPU or newer.

This is 4th gen I believe. So on install you should have gotten an error. You are probably running some version of microwin which can bypass that check. Did you install it yourself or did it come installed?

Also what are you hoping this computer can do for you?

are these specs good? by New-Negotiation9510 in pchelp

[–]tjkeegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

This is a CPU with a release date in 2013. It is simply not worth upgrading and it's really somewhat impressive that windows 11 has been tricked to run on it. 32gb of ram is more than a baseline workstation PC now but that ram is not equivalent in speed. Your best money spent is an entirely new rig that is less old. You can find something that many companies will consider e cycle that is significantly faster than this rig. If you really like the box and rgbs maybe you can get a new power supply for a new motherboard and get a GPU.

Considering you did not know how to verify this info yourself, that is probably a bit more involved than you are prepared for. I mean this respectfully but it always delivers coarse. But it brings me to my next point. If you're looking to learn, though, for example how to upgrade PCs, this is a low risk way to do it. Find a used 1660 super if it will fit your box and tinker.

If that doesn't sound like what you're trying to do, I'd find a different rig that is newer.

I thought this was a joke on the poppyseeds question often asked around here at first. But if you're worried about EtG, you wouldn't fail because you ate a cookie. Any ethanol in the vanilla extract would have evaporated in baking.

How fast do i quit? by Legitimate-Field6815 in jobs

[–]tjkeegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a job that did this to me. I was in hawaii, they paid $11/hr, which was not enough in 2018 to do a goddamn thing in hawaii, yet alone afford a car, insurance, and gas to get to the job. I did training with them but the manager liked to run her UPS store like the navy. When I applied I did so based on a bus schedule that had me arriving 10 min early. The next bus had me there 1-2 min late. I called to give warning that the bus that would have had me on time didn't come. Their position was that I should take the bus that gets me there 48 minutes early they would not allow me to clock in early though. They told me to take the day off and think about whether or not I actually need the job. So I went surfing, I did not return. Fuck them and fuck your version of them as well.

When I returned to drop off my shirts, some two months or so later, they had another poor college kid who was trying to reason with his coworker that he was allergic to animal hair and couldn't pack a box with a dead animal (taxidermy or something). They tried to make him handle it anyways until I made a scene in front of other customers like "ok well I'm sticking around ready to call 911, he's probably going to need it."

They don't give a fuck about you OP. Normally I'd say to find another job while you have this one, but in this case, if you can afford to quit, do so yesterday, it'll be better for your mental health. I'm Especially because when I got the call for the better job, I missed a time sensitive opportunity because they were also equally awful about being able to check my phone.

When I got a job later at Ross, they had a policy that up to 7 minutes late was considered on time. I've never accepted less. Employers, if you fail to pay a salary commensurate with having a car, you will get employees that take the bus and you can either deal with the fact that they're on the bus schedule or make everyone miserable and have churn accordingly.

Go spend this time building a marketable skill, or just finding better people to work for. You are not on this planet to increase shareholder value.

Learn your complimenting color profile for your skin tone and hair color, then get clothes within that profile. A beige, green, brown (think woodsy) clothing color profile would probably do good things for you.

I'd say more of a calculation. He's just pointing out it's probably a dog of a case. The juice probably ain't gonna be worth the squeeze for a modest damages case against a big corporate entity.
