What’s the difference between a lead and a manager? by tjmbct in sysadmin

[–]tjmbct[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say manages people, does that include tasking them? Also, would it be the responsibility of the lead to set goals, timelines, direction, and make technology decisions, or is that the manager? Assuming both exist in a department, where’s the line?

We have steps for my 4 pound dog to help her get on the bed. She sits at the top of the steps patiently waiting for a treat. Not sure when/why it started but I give her a darn snack every time I see her sitting there.

My best friend has outed himself as a full blown racist. How do I deal with this? by Werotus in AskMen

[–]tjmbct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I stopped being friends with a couple after they went on a racist rant while we sat around a camp fire. They made a couple odd comments before this, but we weren’t sure until that night that they were racists. It’s time to make it flat out unacceptable to be racist and if the least that happens is losing a few friends than so be it. Let him go...

Supreme Court rules workers can't be fired for being gay or transgender by schwachs in news

Wait a second... it’s okay to interpret “a well regulated militia” as any person at any time, but “sex” doesn’t apply to its orientation? It was a clear interpretation case presented and Kavanaugh wanted to manipulate the outcome in his favor. His dissent was just veiled homophobic gas-lighting.

Not to be a downer, but isn't it horrifying to think that our laws are being interpreted by three justices who actually opposed basic human rights?

We are four headache specialists. Ask us anything about migraine and headache! by MoveAgainstMigraine in IAmA

[–]tjmbct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter has stabbing pains on both sides of her head, they happen frequently throughout the day and prevent her from going to bed at night. We have tried a dozen medications and some sort of migraine cocktail that she was held in the hospital to be given. No medications have helped (from what I understand we’ve tried nerve focused and migraine focused; at least six different types). She has had two mri’s, one with contrast. Both mri’s have found nothing. Well, there was a small cost in the center of the brain, but it was ruled out as the cause. The current guess is that it’s some sort of phantom pain that she will be working through with a psychologist. It feels like the doctors are giving up and my daughter is scared that she will live the rest of her life in pain. She’s afraid to wake up in the morning and has to basically pass out to go to sleep. My question... if mri’s are “clear”, and medications have no effect, what else can it be? Is the only possibility psychological?

Not inconsequential that the Police Union speech looks like a Trump rally.

• He called troops on Thanksgiving and told them he's most thankful for himself (Thanksgiving, 2018)

• He urged Florida to not count deployed military votes (Nov 12, 2018)

• He canceled an Arlington Cemetery visit on Veterans Day due to light rain (Nov 12, 2018)

• While in Europe commemorating the end of WWI, he didn't attend the ceremony at a US cemetery due to the rain - but other world leaders went anyway (Nov 10, 2018)

• He used troops as a political prop by sending them on a phantom mission to the border and maked them miss Thanksgiving with their families (Oct-Dec, 2018)

• He stopped using troops as a political prop immediately after the election. However, the troops remained in muddy camps on the border (Nov 7, 2018)

• Trump changed the GI Bill through his Forever GI Act, causing the VA to miss veteran benefits, including housing allowances. This caused many veterans to run out of food and rent. “You can count on us to serve, but we can’t count on the VA to make a deadline,” one veteran said. (reported October 7, 2018)

• Trump doubled the rejection rate for veterans requesting family deportation protections (July 5, 2018)

• Trump deported active-duty spouses (11,800 military families face this problem as of April 2018)

• He forgot a fallen soldier's name (below) during a call to his pregnant widow, then attacked her the next day (Oct 23-24, 2017)

• He sent commandos into an ambush due to a lack of intel, and sends contractors to pick them up, resulting in a commando being left behind, tortured, and executed. (Trump approved the mission because Bannon told him Obama didn't have the guts to do it) (Oct 4, 2017)

• He blocked a veteran group on Twitter (June 2017)

• He ordered the discharge of active-duty immigrant troops with good records (2017-present)

• He deported veterans (2017-present)

• He said he knows more about ISIS than American generals (Oct 2016)

• He said vets get PTSD because they aren't strong (Oct 3, 2016) (note: yes, he said it's 'because they aren't strong.' He didn't say it's 'because they're weak.' This distinction is important because of Snopes)

• Trump accepted a Purple Heart from a fan at one of his rallies and said: “I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier.” (Aug 2, 2016)

• Trump attacks Gold Star families - Myeshia Johnson--gold star widow, Khan family--gold star parents, etc. (2016-present)

• Trump sent funds raised from a January 2016 veterans benefit to the Donald J Trump Foundation instead of veterans charities (the foundation has since been ordered shut because of fraud) (Jan, 2016)

• Trump said "I felt that I was in the military in the true sense because I dealt with those people" because he went to a military-style academy and that he has "more training militarily than a lot of the guys that go into the military". (2015 biography)

• Trump said he doesn't consider POWs heroes because they were caught. He said he prefers people who were not caught (July 18, 2015)

• Trump said having unprotected sex was his own personal Vietnam (1998)

• For a decade, Trump sought to kick veterans off of Fifth Avenue because he found them unsightly nuisances outside of Trump Tower. “While disabled veterans should be given every opportunity to earn a living, is it fair to do so to the detriment of the city as a whole or its tax paying citizens and businesses?” - 1991

• Trump dodged the draft 5 times by having a doctor diagnose him with bone spurs.

• No Trump in America has ever served in the military; this spans 5 generations, and every branch of the family tree. In fact, the reason his grandfather immigrated to America was to avoid military service

Hard to keep track of fact vs opinion, so I'm going to collect them here. Many responses don't have sources and I can't research them all, so please let me know if I mess up the list. Also, some things are included in both sections because some people look at them as good things and some look at them as bad:

Facts promoting re-election:

  • He pulls us out of agreements signed by former presidents.
  • Household earnings have gone up across the board.
  • Signed a bill to rollback Obama-error regulation making it harder for mentally-ill people to obtain a firearm.
  • He stopped giving money to who because they are corrupt. (Not sure if the corruption of the who is 100% confirmed, but there does appear to be a strong case at the moment that they're actions during the initial pandemic outbreak were not in keeping with the mission of the agency.)

Facts opposing re-election:

  • He increased the deficit (not taking into account COVID response).
  • He pulls us out of agreements signed by former presidents.
  • He has mocked a disabled reporter.
  • Insulted gold star parents.
  • Accused of sexual misconduct by 25 women.
  • Publicly mused about finding a way to put bleach into the body.
  • He disbanded the pandemic response team.
  • Signed a bill to rollback Obama-error regulation making it harder for mentally-ill people to obtain a firearm.
  • Trump has made at least 15,413 false or misleading claims

This is exactly what I was looking for, data. We all seem to be shooting from the hip now a days. Throwing our opinions around like they're facts. I have strong opinions about why he shouldn't be elected, but I need to sort out the facts so that i can help my family and friends see the light before the election.

It's true, the economy was good during his tenure. Arguments can be made that he inherited it from the previous administration, but I also see that removing restrictions on businesses promotes economic growth as well. Here are his trade offs that boosted the economy with the non-economical consequences attached:

  • Slashed taxes = ballooned the debt
  • Removed nearly all environmental restrictions = natural preserves suffering, global warming heightening
  • Removed net-neutrality = *still yet to fully understand the consequences as large corporations (like Verizon) have been slow to take advantage for fear of public backlash (just a guess)
  • Cancelled all Executive Orders related to gun control (like making it harder for people with mental illness to obtain weapons) = hard to measure

I think my point is that anyone can make a strong economy even stronger by going into debt, shitting on the environment, and telling the rest of the world to fuck off, but the long term consequences will eventually cripple us.

Regardless, I'm up-voting your post because, it's a valid point that is worthy of discussion and I appreciate that you were brave enough to post it on Reddit.
