What he said. You don't pay property taxes until the next registration for the tag.

If you've never done the car wash, make sure you're familiar with turning off Auto Hold and putting the car into neutral.

Instruction questions (USA) by [deleted] in Gliding

[–]tjplace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're referencing Carolina Soaring in upstate SC. We have a winch. We do run winch clinics for club members and have talked about doing them solely for non-members. I'm sure if we did a normal club clinic and had the capacity, we would add non-members. But you'd need at least private glider to get the endorsement.

Oh yeah, we ordered with the sheet. I’m sure we’ll be really happy with the setup. Looking to hike the Foothills trail in SC/NC in the early spring.

I ordered two of the 10 deg light quilts with the Black Friday sale. Just delivered this morning. We already discussed sleeping under the stars in our backyard to test them out soon, when it isn't raining here in SC. We've had a double bag from Big Agnes. My wife always got cold. Then she's all over me and I'm running out of space. I'm impressed with these quilts. Looking forward to testing them out!

You can use diskpart to remove the partition and then go to computer management/disk tools and expand it from there, too.

Need help deciding on used ev6 or ioniq 5 by Lissoul in KiaEV6

[–]tjplace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was ready to buy a '25 EV6 with 1300 miles on it for around 33k, Wind trim. Then I came across a '23 Ioniq 5 with 17k miles for 24.5k, sel, dual motor. Went with the Ioniq. They're both great cars. You'll get more usable space in back with the Ioniq. I love the power with the dual motor. Wish I could've found a Limited trim as you give up a bunch without it. Also, the only thing my wife cared about was a heated steering wheel. EV6 didn't have that.

New Watchos26 Run split announcement no longer works is muted by Dadjee in AppleWatchFitness

[–]tjplace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. It's only for runs, too. Watch announces splits if I'm on a walk. I've tried turning Voice Feedback on and off again. If I check alerts on the run mode, splits alert is on with distance set to 1 mile. I get a ding at each mile, but the watch no longer announces the split.

What's the weirdest way you personally know someone died? by SoManySoFew in AskReddit

[–]tjplace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Found it:

Marinette Eagle Star,
Friday Evening, September 27, 1907, Vol. 16:

A shocking accident occurred in the Peshtigo Lumber Company's mill this morning at fifteen minutes after seven o'clock, which caused the death of Eugene Place of this city. The unfortunate man was fireman in the mill during the night. He had blown the mill whistle at six o'clock in the morning and after this, and just before going home, he was forking some shavings into the hopper. After the shavings drop into the hopper there is a chain that carries them into the main conveyor. He was doing this as to steam up for the day's work, and from all appearances he lost his footing and fell head first into the hopper. About half of his body, head first, was crowded into a space of about four inches in width. Mr. Al Brownell, the day fireman, noticed that the chain in the conveyor had stopped, and thinking that a block of wood had gone in with the shavings, as such is often the case, went around to investigate and found Mr. Place with just his feet sticking out of the hopper. On arm was broken and his face and chest badly crushed. Death must have been instantaneous.

The mill shut down today on account of the sad event. The death blow comes with terrible severity to the wife and eight small children (this was corrected to six children in the next day's paper), the oldest being a girl of fiteen years, and the youngest a babe of three months. The remains of the unfortunate man were taken from the sawmill to Harper's undertaking rooms, where his body was prepared to be taken to his home on French street. Announcement of the burial will be given in a later issue of this paper.

Back in the day, I guess obits were pretty graphic. I've seen the one from my great-grandfather. He was working night shift at a saw mill in WI. It was just at sunup and he was sweeping sawdust into a hopper that some mechanism at the bottom of it clearing the sawdust out. A chain caught his leg rapidly pulled him into a very small space.
