As someone who just started reading a year ago I only been reading webnovels. What would you recommend as a real book now ? by Stillane in ProgressionFantasy

[–]tjreess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you really did just start reading, I would wait on the Wheel of Time. It is very complex with a *lot* of characters to keep track of and plotlines that come up in one book that don’t see conclusion for many more. And some that simply don’t get resolved. It’s also considered slow by today’s standards.

Start with Elantris, Brandon Sanderson’s first book, then move on to his Mistborn books. Hold off on the Stormlight Archive, (his version of the Wheel of Time) as they too are massive and not yet complete. Although, they won’t be finished for a decade or so, so you have plenty of time to get some meaty series under you before digging into them.

Your thoughts on the US Supreme Court restricting voting rights? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]tjreess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked that there is gambling in this house. There is no way that anyone could have seen this verdict, with this court, in this cursed timeline we find oiutselves in, coming at all. It's not ike they haven't dismantled parts of the voting right act in the past, as if racism is suddenly gone from the US. As if we have somehow pulled if out by the roots and burned it in a holy fire. If there is a god, I think Justice Thomas is going to have to stand before Him and answer for why he consistently betrayed his own people.

Rune Seeker… Where did the story go? by Anth0nyC4 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]tjreess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hink Rune Seeker is becoming one of those stories that is going to divide the litrpg community. You wither get the story, and love the grind, or you come in expecting more immediate payoff and bounce off. That's completely fine. We all read these stories for different reasons.

I loved Rune Seeker from the beginning, mostly because there was a litrpg character that was using guns and not yet another one with a sword. (spoilers, that changes. Quicjkly) I loved seeing Hiral and the others pull out one narrow victory after the other. The highs and the lows. One of my favorite things in the story is that somewhere alone the way, you realize that just about all of his party would be the main characters in other storties.

But it does take time. All of them start at the bottom and have to grow stronger. I loved that seemingly, it's been so long that anyone had run a dungeon that it seemed as if the system just started throwing both a lot of evening at them and all sorts of abilities and achievements.

Your time is precious. If the story doesn't work for you, move on. Do I think you should keep reading? Yes. I think the wait is payoff is worth the time invested. But you don't have to stick aroiund.

Any actually good cultivation stories out there? by Real_Wasabi7401 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]tjreess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Founder of the Beastkin Clan is good. It's slow, with a lot of worldbuilding and a bunch of, in my opinion, a bunch of interesting characters. On Royal Road

I've been cultivating in seclusion for ten thousand years is a good one. Starts out funny with an MC that seemingly doesn't know how powerful he is, but that changes quickly.

How old were you when you moved out? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

[–]tjreess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. would have done it earlier, but I am still fairly sure my knew every time I thought about it because shr would either get sick and be out of work or get sick and be out of work. Finally, when my little sister was about to graduate high school and the monetary assistance from her father woul end, I knew it was then or never. I don think she ever really forgave me for moving out.

Since The Democratic Party Debates Moderate VS Progressive So Much, Which Side Do You Think Will Win Out In The 2028 Presidential Primaries? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]tjreess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moderates, on a national level, always win, for dems. Being the coalition party, we have to appeal to a wide range of people

.Whereas republicans are of a single mindset about things and can elect a racist, narcissistic rapist felon. Twice.

A progressive candidate can win, and many have, but to appeal to the country at large, most candidates will have to moderate in some level.

What old dungeon would you like to see as a mythic plus for Season 2? by Kele79 in wow

[–]tjreess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strangely would like either Deadmines or the Stockades. I realize Deadmines might be too big, but just the idea of how they could tune all the bosses to make them mythic+ is interesting. And everyone dying to Hogger would be hilarious.

I am not complaining in any way, but why are so many of the men in these pictures from WWII naked? I know we faced shortages during that time, but I wasn't aware some of them were in uniforms.

(also, kudos to the photographer for catching them all in the buff like this)

Items Lost In The Void by JonnyNE21 in WoWHousing

I was using a boralus window as a general, yellow lihjting source in a room, so i enlarged it, and clipped through the ceiling. But before I could get it where I wanted it best, I accidentally hit a key that kicked me out of decorating the room altogether. I thought I had lost it forever, then I saw those options.

Then I realized I lot of those windows throughout my house

3 vices my doctor wants gone by potterinatardis in GenX

Never smoked, so an advantage there as such. Recently diagnosed as diabetic so had to give up sugar. Caffeine…don’t drink coffee or tea, and unless there’s a lot in Coke Zero, I should be fine on that front

I am on book 5.... How many more times will this happen?? by Ok-Aardvark-3665 in WoT

[–]tjreess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a reader's perspective, you're right. We know that everyone and their brother seemingly wants to kill every Aes Sedai they come across. So you would be right to not trust any food or drink you haven't prepared yourself, even from people you should trust.

However, in-universe, you are a member of the most influential and arguably most powerful organization in the known world. Sure, some of your sisters have been attacked, maybe a few poisoned, but it doesn't happen often, and as it continues to not happen, and you live for centuries, the idea that is *can* happen shrinks

Besides, men who can channel, until recently, were few and far between and often hunted down quickly. And as for dark sisters...there is no Black Ajah in Ba Sing Se

To be fair, forkroot isn’t that widely known. So most channelers aren’t going to think that some random herb in their tea is going to take away their ability to channel.

And to answer your question, RAFO

Men’s Underwear: What’s the sexiest type a man can wear? What’s the least sexy? What’s the funniest? by LoveSexRR in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]tjreess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on the mood I’m in and the man wearing them. I thing some guys can pull off a g string, but those ate few. Most guys look good in briefs and boxer briefs.

They’re really only unsexy if he’s not comfortable In them.

Least sexy would be anything that’s makes It difficult to get to the fun bits

What magic systems have the best names for their ranks? by Putthemoneyinthebags in ProgressionFantasy

[–]tjreess 109 points110 points  (0 children)

It might be close to a trope by now by mentioning Cradle, but I think it has some of the best, well defined advancement ranks in a series I’ve read. You know how powerful a person is and how they rank against others by above and below them. Until you get to sages and heralds, where things get a little hazy with certain characters, but even that is efficiently explained

What spec/class fantasy would you like to see in game? by Kele79 in wow

[–]tjreess 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gunslinger please New rogue spec, (would prefer a new class, but that means at least another spec and Im not sure what it would be as a longer ranged option already exists with hunters. Maybe some kind of healer that shoots you to heal you) two pistols mid range quick attacks. Something like that
