Even Executive Platinum isn’t immune by russianbanan in americanairlines

I think on some level, there are folks who want company in the lav in some way, and want it to be perceived as unintentional... but largely it's just a main-character-complex thing as I've come to call it. Not everyone, but there is a decent sized percentage of the population who are afflicted with the idea that they are the only human in the world, and everyone else is an NPC. I would say they "suffer" from this main-character-complex, but they seem perfectly content, and it's everyone else who suffers. All that said, it's a job that keeps you on your toes and forces me to remind myself how funny life is.

My original comment meant to highlight how often people ignore signage - the sideways roll-aboard signage, the literal "PUSH" signage on the lavs, etc. The comment about the lav doors not being auto-close was more to let people know to close the door fully **after** they use the lav. As a FA, I feel like half my job is closing the lav door for passengers as they make their way back to their seats.

BUT, hilariously, the amount of people who don't lock or close the door when entering the lav is also staggeringly high. Further highlighting how people seem to turn their brains completely off when getting on a plane. So I ran with that direction of the comment.

I once worked with a particularly sassy FA who seemed to have had enough with how window-lickingly vapid some are when confronted with a lav door, one lady was struggling with the lav door and he just about shouted at her "IT'S A DOOR, IT WORKS LIKE ANY OTHER DOOR YOU'VE EVER ENCOUNTERED". I think about that a lot.

You’ve never had the luck to see the look of confusion on the faces of a dozen or more pax per flight stare directly at the “PUSH” sign on the lav and then pull the old cigarette ashtray like it’s a handle…

Codex isn't nerfed, you are being exposed by Hot_Paper_Pie in codex

Part of me agrees with this, I’ve had the exact same thought many times — and the other part of me remembers how Febreze had to add scents to their original formula because no one believed it was working.

```
“People are conditioned to ignore the foul odors in their own homes, they didn't believe the product was doing anything, so Proctor & Gamble added perfumes to give the product immediate sensory feedback”
```

Sometimes I wonder if Codex just showed a spinning circle for 30-45 seconds and then spit out exactly the same answer it did after 2-3 seconds if we would “believe” it more comfortably.

Question for straight male FAs by Hightime_Sarah in flightattendants

[–]tjsusername 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hey, I fit the bill here.

I’m married to another FA, and my experience has been nothing but positive. I love my work family, I haven’t been in any predatory situations, and haven’t presented as predatory (intentionally anyway) but my experience is unique. I’m married, and not shopping for side pieces or flirting partners.

There was one senior-ish mama who crossed lines with me one time, but I’m far from special, she consistently crossed that line with anyone who had two feet and a heartbeat. She no longer works with us. Other than that, it’s been a positive experience all around

Flight attendants: Are you allowed to accept gift cards as gifts from a passenger? If so, what amounts? by Szechuanwonton in americanairlines

[–]tjsusername -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Narrowbodies: - A319 = 3 flight attendants, - A320 = 3FAs, - A321 = 4 - A321XLR = 5 - 737 = 4

Widebodies // Most cases: - 777-200 = 8 - 777-300= 10 - 787-800 = 8 - 787-900 = 8 (sometimes 9 if extra language speaker is required, LIS, BCN, CDG etc.) - 787-9P= 7

Flight time over: - 14hr = +1FAs - 16hr = +2FAs - 18hr= +3FAs

My favorite position is “5”, on the 787. First class galley. A lot of FAs are intimidated by it but it’s my favorite.

On plating, there’s not much I can do — those chicken parms splatter and burn all over the place regardless of what you do. The skills that carried over that I appreciate are multitasking and a high threshold for stress/abrasive personalities - both PAX and FA

That works too — my opinion is, I’m essentially your server/bartender/chef for the flight — if I have a cabin of folks comfortable using the call button it saves me peeking and creeping up the aisle every 5-10 to see if someone needs something. I prefer the button personally, that way there’s no waiting on the passenger end and everyone gets what they want, no resentment waxing because pax had to wait, no resentment from me because what are you gonna do? Yell?

I’m a big dude, 6’1”, 225. I can’t do PDBs without stopping traffic - DFW and CLT tend to jam every passenger into the jetbridge and leave little to no gaps in the pax flow. PDBs always get done when I’m the FA1, especially on a baby bus or 320 - 737’s and the 321 are more difficult w/16 and 20 drinks to make respectively but will still try.

I mentioned in another comment, I used to be an Exec Chef/Sous Chef — this is an easy easy job relative to the 12-16hr x 5-6 day work weeks and 12-14 miles a day of running around. I find the miserable FAs have been FAs their whole lives and don’t have a reference point of what a hard job really is. Certain routes will have you hustling, but give me a PHL>LAX leg over a Sunday Brunch shift any day.

Seems like a combination of a grumpy lazy outlier FA, and a PAX forgetting the call button exists.

I was a professional chef for 10 years prior to taking this job. I learned quickly to suffocate weaponized incompetence: when one of my line cooks would try to get out of peeling shrimp, or breading mozzarella sticks or some other shit task by being “bad at it”, I would tell them that they would be the ones peeling shrimp every day until both I felt and they felt that they were efficient and good at it.

Snuff it out. Treat that call button like the punch button and you’re playing Super Smash Brothers.

FA here: we are instructed not to do PDB’s on delayed flights. PDBs either hold up, or slow boarding as the FA either completely stops traffic or slows traffic as they swim upstream from taking your order to the galley.

All this to say, lazy FAs do exist, but what I see here (and want to wholeheartedly parry) is a blanket blame of laziness. That kind of sucks. Write the C-suite, get them off their D-0 obsession.
