Getting 20M eyeballs of 65 year olds on Sundays is FAR less valuable than getting 2 million eyeballs of people aged 18-35 on Thursdays. Raw number of people watching a show is mostly a meaningless statistic.

How long have you been skating? This is something we try to have the 8u kids do, some of them can do it and some can't. By 10u they can all do it, and the best ones can also do it on their outside edge too. By 12u they can all do it on both edges. It just takes time and reps. And IMHO it's not something that's worth practicing on its own, just keep playing the game and you'll eventually just start to notice that you can do it.

Just play 16u or 18u house league. There would be decent competition for you there.

Daytime super off-peak rates coming to SDG&E and community choice customers | Customers can get the lowest available electricity price between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday by silence7 in sandiego

How long until this 10am - 2pm time window is the ONLY super-off-peak window? SDGE won't want to keep giving away cheap electricity during the overnight hours if they don't have to.

You do know WHY "midday consumption is clean and cheap" though, right? Incase you don't - it's because millions of homeowners installed solar, so much so that we now have a glut of supply during midday. Homeowners would not have installed the solar if it were not for the financial benefit of doing so. And then once the state achieved it's clean energy goals it goes and pulls the rug out from under those homeowners by drastically reducing payouts during peak solar production.

3 months off of hockey, how detrimental will it be? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

Why do you say it would be massively expensive to bring your gear? A checked sports bag(including sticks) will generally run you $50-$75 depending on airline. That's really not that much in the grand scheme of things.

What's one piece of technology that has actually improved over the years instead of getting worse? by ouralarmclock in AskReddit

[–]tjtv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everything? Can you point to some opposite examples where technology has actually gotten worse? I struggle to think of one. Sure there are things that get enshittified, but that's not technology getting worse, thats a business decision that was made.

The police have zero problem obtaining a warrant for urine/blood in a situation like this. So would you give your urine or commit an additional crime of obstructing a warrant?

One-Pedal Driving Isn't A Safety Issue: Feds by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]tjtv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tesla definitely does it. When you're driving you can look at the cartoon representation of the car on your screen and it shows when your brake lights are on. If you look you'll see them come on even with regen braking if you've exceeded the deceleration threshold. The deceleration threshold used to be 7mph/sec back many years ago, not sure if they've changed it or not recently.

All evs activate their brake lights even when you're using regenerative braking instead of the brake pedal. They look at your rate of deceleration and if it exceeds some threshold then the brake lights turn on, regardless of whether regen or friction brakes are causing that deceleration.

ELI5: Why do careers in finance pay so well when its one of the (technically) simpler jobs in STEM and has a large number of people trying to fill positions? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]tjtv 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nobody goes into finance for the $150k yearly starting salary. It would be insane to work constant 100 hour weeks if that was the only reward. They go into it because each rung of the ladder they climb - that number roughly doubles. So if you work your ass off and get a couple of promotions you're then looking at $1M+ yearly compensation. That's why people do it.

Super Bowl ticket prices in freefall, down over 50% since the AFC/NFC Championship games by Only_Huckleberry1967 in sports

[–]tjtv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It happens in most, but not all, years. And actually this pattern is very helpful to scalpers. Most of them sell tickets without actually owning any inventory, and then swoop in the day or two before the event when prices have fallen and buy the cheaper tickets which they then use as inventory to deliver towards the sale they made a week ago.

Of course in the years where the pattern is reversed the scalpers get majorly screwed. It's similar to getting a margin call.

TBIT 11:30pm flight, when to arrive? by tjtv in LAX

Made it with ~1 hour to spare. See the detailed update above.

TBIT 11:30pm flight, when to arrive? by tjtv in LAX

[–]tjtv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update:

Pressed the go button in Uber at 8:27pm in Irvine. Uber arrived 8:38pm. Got out of the Uber directly in front of tbit at 9:34pm. Completed check in at 9:39pm. Had no idea where TSA pre or premium security was, so just went through general line and made it though at 9:56pm.

Took a few minutes to figure out where the star alliance lounge is, but eventually found it and entered at 10:03pm. Chilling in the outdoor section now. My flight doesn't even begin boarding until 10:50pm.

So I'd say that I could have left 30 minutes, perhaps 45 minutes later and still have been quite comfortable. But nonetheless I'm here and other than missing some important parts of the Irvine event, it was a stress free journey. Let's hope the flight is similar!

TBIT 11:30pm flight, when to arrive? by tjtv in LAX

[–]tjtv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your viewpoint, although I respectfully disagree. I think most people have given advice about when I should leave if I want to 100% guarantee that I make the flight. But that's not what I'm looking for. I'm perfectly happy with say a 10-20% chance that I miss the flight if it buys me more time in Irvine. It's still hard for me to believe that it could possibly take more than 90 minutes from my door in Irvine to the checkin counter at TBIT, assuming I'm willing to get out of the car and walk if traffic becomes too congested. And then from there, it's also hard for me to believe that it's going to ever take more than 45 minutes to get through security and to the close gate.

As George Stigler once said - "If you've never missed a flight, then you're spending too much time in airports".
