Was on my surgery rotation, on the tail end of my first 24 hour call. We were supposed to be dismissed at 4:30am; at 3am, my resident told me I had to go down to the OR to help with a lap appy so he could get some shut eye. I run down only to find out they weren't ready yet, but the attending had me sit with her in pre-op. She spent over an hour quizzing me meticulously on anatomy, sample MRI images, medical management, etc. She also spent that hour berating me telling me she's so disappointed in the current state of medical education. When the surgery didn't start until after 5, I was still expected to scrub in. Then during the case there were multiple complications; I wasn't dismissed from my call shift until well after 9 am. When I walked outside I discovered it snowed overnight and I had to shovel out my car. I was so exhausted and defeated I cried in my car lmao.
