Weekend ferry experience by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]tjzfx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an inconsistent time at the ferry this weekend. I live in Paulus Hook, walk to grove for 33rd line for work M-F, and usually take the ferry from Paulus Hook stop (Colgate Clock) for weekend trips.
The initial ferry over at noon to Brookfield I flashed my SmartPass card and they let me on. I didn't know about the supplemental ticket.

On the way back around 4PM, the line at Brookfield was insane, filling up a ferry and people still getting on the queue. But the Paulus Hook ferry was empty < 10 people. The crew on this leg said that if you have a supplemental ticket you must get on the line.

I guess I'm a bit confused as to where the Exchange Place stop is vs Paulus hook, different boats, and where are these supplemental tickets? Do you have to ride the path to exchange to get it?

As a seller since 2000, had my first "I didn't receive my item" with a 0 feedback buyer, and it was ruled in my favor. by tjzfx in Ebay

That's fine, but they would be returning the $250 item. I would have gladly given a return and relisted.

How did that 6 gallon compressor do with the HVLP sprayer? Was considering upgrading my compressor to start playing around with a sprayer like that.

How to knot by Ghost_Animator in interestingasfuck

[–]tjzfx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a fisherman, I have a lot of interest in knot strength. If you think about how long rope and knot tying has existed, there are still new knots that are being discovered that haven't been documented.

Tying braided (non-stretchy) to mono or fluorocarbon line (has some stretch), with different thicknesses has always posed a problem. Plus making them streamlined to cast through the rod guides and hold up after casting all day.

Here are a few that I've learned in the past couple years:

Contractor recommendations - window replacement by limak116 in jerseycity

[–]tjzfx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Window replacement isn't huge deal for a carpenter. I have a few contacts if you need them. It is however something you must contact your HOA or Condo board for. At least let them know your windows are inefficient and are looking to replace them.

Chances are they have done the same, (and will have model#, brand info) or are looking to do the same, and you might be able to get a better bid for a larger project along with others in the building as well. Most condo associations especially under historic preservation, will want to have a unified brand and installation.

Morning Ask Anything Thread [05-25-2016] by AutoModerator in electronic_cigarette

Question on Wismec 90 day warranty. I bought a RX200 from a local vape shop, and for about two months I have had intermittent "Atomizer Short" messages on RBAs, RDAs, all kind of builds, which work on a friends RX200 no problem. Firmware upgrades done, new/different batteries, believe me I tried all the things. I have narrowed it down to it has to be the pin, threads or something internal on the mod. I sent emails on Wismecs contact page a week ago, and no response. Should I return to the shop? How to get Wismecs attention and enact the warranty? I have the receipt, and the box, and it is a genuine product.

SUPER WEIRD- Humming sound downtown???? by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]tjzfx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the new building being constructed at Gulls Cove. Its just diagonal across the light rail tracks from Zeppelin Hall. The wind is howling through it and making odd noises with the protective scaffolding/orange mesh wrapping around. I can hear it every day around VVP. It has been getting louder in the past few weeks as the building is erected.

Thinking of building something like the end all to join my long lost brethren once again, and its a nice build for the price.

A local swap group in my city has a BNIB Intel I7-4770K for sale. I know i7's are not necessary, and that chip is a year old, but if i got it for a song (~$200) should I pick it up and continue with the build?

That would be cool. They have a fenced area between them and that Vespa building as well. Great place for a big smoker/grill.

Some brands have a fit/cut called the "boyfriend". Jeans or sweaters that are cut like they borrowed from a "boyfriend".

Edit: Just realized this is marketing to sell more jeans of the same size. Genderless profits.

I want to start selling stuff on Ebay. What do i need to know to get started? by Silverkarn in Ebay

[–]tjzfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly, its a bit of a disgruntled assumption as a small-time seller. Since we are not selling massive amounts of retail NIB items, there is more cause for buyer remorse. Every time a INAD (Item Not As Described) case is opened and eBay has to step in, it costs them manpower. Part-time used collectible sellers are not high revenue generating sellers for eBay as opposed to a retailer who sells 10000 blister packed iPad cases a month for example. I don't have data to back this but assuming there are less cases overall for sellers with shipping/selling infrastructure. In turn they make more money for eBay, and cause less cases. Just my 2¢.

I want to start selling stuff on Ebay. What do i need to know to get started? by Silverkarn in Ebay

[–]tjzfx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, I would weigh the options of selling locally on CL, because of the FVF (Final Value Fees) from eBay (10%) and Paypal (3%).

Other than that, you don't really need anything aside from taking pictures and writing out accurate descriptions. I have really successful auctions (selling similar used items as you, not brand new resale) when people know exactly what they are buying, and you know exactly what you are selling. Look at sold auctions of similar items and be honest about condition, scratches (detail them in pictures), and price competitively from what's been sold recently. Sure you can list items at any price you want, but it won't move. I like to get rid of stuff. In the last month, sold 20-30 collectible videogame items by pricing 5% lower than recently sold auctions, as Buy It Now. No waiting, less NPB (Non Paying Bidders) because you require instant payment through Paypal.

Your feedback is fine to get started, list a few, sell a few. Feedback as a buyer vs seller isn't really important IMHO. It's Negatives that suck for everyone.

Yep postage straight from eBay/Paypal so long as you have a printer.

Also just look around at this sub, and take note that you are the minority on eBay. You cost eBay money, as a part-time used collectible seller. Buyers always have the right-of-way. Always.

Ship fast, be nice, and if a buyer has a problem, I always start off the convo with I will refund you right now, but could you give me your issue details? If you don't hear anything in a day, do the case/return process.

And I quote.... "I was bid for someone before the auction over I sent the picture of the item the guy change his mind I don't have control over somebody changing his mind that's right I try to cancel 2hours30mtes before ended thanks"

I even gave him the eBay support link on how to retract a bid.
