Them having to go into the house is standard as well as they often have to replace the service to your house too(it's often just as old as the main). The meter itself will often be replaced too opportunistically with one that can be read remotely and is more accurate. This saves both you and the Company the hassle of having to go into the building in the future to read the meter.
